You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD turns my darkness into light. - 2 Samuel 22:28-29 NIV This morning s sermon: But I See Four Men Daniel 3:1-30 Pastor Glenn Parkinson 3

Order of Worship Entering God s Presence Call to Worship from Psalm 18:1, 3 Leader: I love you, O LORD, my strength. People: I call upon the LORD, Leader: who is worthy to be praised, People: and I am saved from my enemies. Gathering Song You Alone Can Rescue Page 9 Prayer of Invocation Mutual Greeting Responsive Reading, Elder Mark Good from Matthew 10:24-39 4 Leader: A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. People: It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. Leader: If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household. People: So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Leader: And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. People: Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Leader: Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

People: Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Leader: So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, People: but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. Leader: Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, People: and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Leader: And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. People: Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Offering Ourselves to God Tithes and Offerings Offertory In Christ Alone Page 8 Dedication and Doxology Hymn # 625 Enjoying God s Fellowship Sermon But I See Four Men Pew Bible Pastor Glenn Parkinson Page 739 Sermon text: Daniel 3:1-30 Sending Song Christ Is Risen Page 12 Benediction from Psalm 25:13-15 6

Offertory In Christ Alone In Christ alone my hope is found He is my Light, my strength, my song; This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease; My Comforter, my all in all Here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe; This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save. Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied; For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain; Then bursting forth in glorious day Up from the grave He rose again. And as He stands in victory Sin s curse has lost its grip on me; For I am His, and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the pow r of Christ in me; From life s first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny. No pow r of hell, no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand til He returns, or calls me home, Here in the power of Christ I ll stand. Song of Response Lord, I Need You Lord I come, I confess. Bowing here, I find my rest. And without You, I fall apart. You re the one that guides my heart. Chorus: Lord, I need You, oh, I need You. Ev ry hour I need You. My one defense, my righteousness; Oh, God, how I need You. Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more. Where grace is found is where You are. And where You are, Lord, I am free. Holiness is Christ in me. So, teach my song to rise to You When temptation comes my way. And when I cannot stand, I ll fall on You. Jesus, You re my hope and stay. Jesus, You re my hope and stay. Hymn of Affirmation How Firm a Foundation How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord, Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word! What more can He say than to you He hath said, To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled? Fear not I am with thee; O be not dismayed, For I am thy God and will still give thee aid; I ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand, Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand. When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie, My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply: The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design: Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine. The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose I will not, I will not desert to its foes; That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake, I ll never, no never, no never forsake! From John Rippon s Selection of Hymns, 1787 Trad. American melody; Caldwell s Union Harmony, 1837 11

Roberta Brown Serving the Church in Japan Roberta was born and raised in Linthicum, MD and became a Christian in high school, where her sense of missions began to grow. After graduating from Towson State University and working in the business world for eight years, she joined the Tokyo/Chiba Church-planting team as a short-term worker in 1992 and a career member in 1997. There she helped the team by teaching conversational English, leading English Bible studies, and acting as team treasurer. Living in Japan has helped her see the tremendous need for the gospel to be proclaimed in that country and hearts to be touched and changed by it. Japan is a country of over 126 million people, of which only 1/2 of 1% are professing to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. By being there she hopes to help facilitate the Tokyo/Chiba churchplanting team s goal of a grace-based church-planting movement throughout Japan. Prayer Requests: Thanks to the Lord for: a vehicle and housing; accountability and reconnection with friends. Please pray: 1. Immediate need: Pray for a good use of time as I develop weekly routines. Pray for ESL lesson prep, Bible studies, and further Japanese learning. Pray also for wisdom between church involvement and needed private study and rest. Pray also for the regional Japan Partnership Conference being held at Chapelgate Church Oct 21-23. 2. 6 weeks from now: As I begin to share with churches, pray that God would stir the hearts of those listening and raise up workers for Japan. 3. 1 year from now: Pray that I would be able to write Bible times to be used in our English classes in Japan. Pray that they would identify and address the felt needs of the Japanese and highlight the Bible s answers to those needs. RobertaMTW@aol.com http://mtwtokyo.com/about/who-we-are/roberta-brown/ 13

Reflection & Preparation Reflection: Daniel 3:1-30 This Week: Quote Obedience to other human beings is always limited. God s authority alone is supreme and limits every form of human authority Scripture requires the believer to follow God, even when that action amounts to civil disobedience or revolt Of course it is almost too easy for us, when we simply disagree with an authority, to concoct a reason as to why God would have us disobey. We should remember that for us God s will is limited to Scripture, and that we need to be rigorously careful in our determinations of God s will from Scripture. (John Frame, The Doctrine of the Christian Life, pg. 581) 1 Samuel 17:37-47 David and Goliath Acts 12:7-11 Luke 4:1-13 An Angel Rescues Peter from Prison Satan tempts Jesus 14 Prayer: Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to You, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations, so control our wills, that we may be wholly Yours, utterly dedicated to You; and then use us, we pray, as You will, and always to Your glory and the welfare of Your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen (From the Book of Common Prayer) In Preparation for Sunday: Daniel 4:1-47 The Pray for Me Campaign: This week we are praying for the gift of Faith for our youth; Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
