Church Life A Question to Ask God Lord, I m wondering: Why have You entrusted me with greater financial blessings than I once had? I guess I ve assumed You ve done it to raise my standard of living. But now I m asking, Is it instead to raise my standard of giving? Do I really see myself as Your delivery person? Or do I assume that because You ve put something in my hands, I m supposed to keep it for myself? (If I hold on to something You wanted me to give, might someone you intended it for go without?) You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:11 From The Treasure Principle

God s Word - Time With God This Week s SOAP True Life - Main Passage for September 16th - Galatians 3:1-14CSB Monday - Galatians 3:1-3 Tuesday - Galatians 3:4-5 Wednesday - Galatians 3:6-7 Thursday - Galatians 3:8-9 Friday - Galatians 3:10-11 Saturday - Galatians 3:12-14 Memory Verse: Galatians 3:11 Now it is clear that no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous will live by faith. Scripture - Read the passage of Scripture for the day and allow God to speak to you. Write down a verse which spoke to you. Observation - Write your observation as to what is happening in the text. What do you believe is the point of the passage? Application - Write down how the passage applies to your life today. Prayer - Ask God to help you use this Scripture for greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Now, write it out. Today s SOAP - Elder Fred Rogers Scripture: Galatians 2:19-21 Observation: From God s vantage point, the old Paul is gone the new Paul has Christ living in him. This meant to Paul the life he lived in his body would now be lived in a new way by faith in Christ not in the old way of self-reliance. Paul identifies his motivation to live this way: because Christ loved him and sacrificed Himself for Paul. Therefore, it was irrational to set aside God s grace because if Paul s righteousness could have been attained through his own reasoning and efforts- then Christ s death was futile. Application: Like Paul, the old Fred no longer lives but Christ living in me is the new reality. My perspective on life and the world, and how I engage in my world (home, office, church, etc.) should be dominated by the reality of Christ in me my only hope of glory. My motivation to live this way is more than because it is good and proper which it is but I have the extra motivation of Jesus love for me demonstrated in the ultimate way by His sacrificial death. Christ s love for me compels me to live in a new, godly way. I should not be motivated to live Godly as a means to earn my righteousness, but rather as a response to His love. Indeed, God credits me with the perfect righteousness of Jesus because God has imputed Christ s righteousness in me. I am righteous before God not because of my reasoning or efforts but because God placed Christ s righteousness in me! My righteousness is received, I did not earn it. I no longer must strive to attain righteousness but rather I can walk in freedom knowing I already am righteous. And this is the amazing paradox: since it is no longer necessary for me to strive to be righteous I am now motivated to live righteously in gratitude to God! There is a cautionary reminder as well: if for any reason I determine that my efforts add to my righteousness before God then I negate the righteousness God imputed to me. Further, I must take care not to buy-in to the deception that as long as I don t do unrighteous things, then by default I am being righteous this isn t true. God doesn t merely call me to avoid hating people (i.e. doing something unrighteous), but rather to love others (living righteously). Prayer: Lord thank You for Your transformative work in my life. Remind me that I am your ambassador that I represent You here on earth so my thoughts, words, and deeds should draw people closer to you not push them away. Remind me to rely upon Your wisdom and strength. Help me to see life from Your perspective, so that I can serve and walk appropriately in love. Thank You for Your patience with me. Amen

True Grace Scripture 11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he stood condemned. 12 For he regularly ate with the Gentiles before certain men came from James. However, when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, because he feared those from the circumcision party. 13 Then the rest of the Jews joined his hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that they were deviating from the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas in front of everyone, If you, who are a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel Gentiles to live like Jews? 15 We are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, 16 and yet because we know that a person is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we ourselves have believed in Christ Jesus. This was so that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no human being will be justified. 17 But if we ourselves are also found to be sinners while seeking to be justified by Christ, is Christ then a promoter of sin? Absolutely not! 18 If I rebuild those things that I tore down, I show myself to be a lawbreaker. 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died for nothing. Galatians 2:11-21 CSB Main Point True Grace is no respecter of persons. *Notes adapted from Explore the Bible, LifeWay Christian Resources. All Scripture passages from the Christian Standard Bible.

Notes Next Steps Examine your attitudes and actions toward other believers to determine if you have set artificial barriers to fellowship. God s Word - Devoted to Him Call It Grace Being made right with God by his grace, we could have the hope of receiving the life that never ends. Titus 3:7 You may be decent. You may pay taxes and kiss your kids and sleep with a clean conscience. But apart from Christ you aren t holy. So how can you go to heaven? Only believe. Accept the work already done, the work of Jesus on the cross. Accept the goodness of Jesus Christ. Abandon your own works and accept his. Abandon your own decency and accept his. Stand before God in his name, not yours. It s that easy? There was nothing easy about it at all. The cross was heavy, the blood was real, and the price was extravagant. It would have bankrupted you or me, so he paid it for us. Call it simple. Call it a gift. But don t call it easy. Call it what it is. Call it grace. From A Gentle Thunder God s word is shallow enough Genesis 1:31 Psalm 19:1 Romans 3:23 Romans 6:23A Romans 1:25 Proverbs 14:12 not to drown the young, but deep enough that the greatest theologian will never touch the bottom. Men s Ministry Women s Ministry Begins 9/18

Student Ministry It has been said "We are either in a storm, coming out of a storm, or heading toward a storm." Life is tough. We are constantly bombarded with challenges. Just when we think we can catch our breath, something else always seems to come along to knock us off our balance. Where are you at? Are you going through something tough? Have you just exited a hard situation? Or are things going good (for now)? Also, how do you find rest in light of all the craziness? Here are two things to think about: First, while many aspects of life may seem challenging and uncertain, there is someone we trust to always be present with us through the storms of life. Imagine a huge, heavy rock sitting outside in the middle of a hurricane. No matter how hard the wind blows, the rock doesn't budge. God is our rock in times of trouble. No matter how crazy the winds blow around us, His love for us will never change. Second, although this life is currently full of both good and bad seasons, this will not always be the case. For Christ-followers, one day the "season" of existence will always be joyful, filled with the grace and goodness of God. I don't know where you are at, but I do know that we can have hope because of God. So don't be defeated by the storms of life. Learn to turn to God. Allow him to help you find rest. Pastor Sam Fowler

Awana Ministry Awana is off and running at full speed! Come join in the fun this Wednesday evening as we learn to be F.R.O.Gs by Fully Relying On God. Wear green and come prepared for a hopping good time. We are in need of several listeners and a greeter. Please contact Wendi Bean if you are interested in serving.

Connect Kids Today the kids are learning about how God is patient. We will discuss Exodus 17:1-7 and how God was patient with the Israelites when they complained in the desert. The theme for large group worship today is: Children will praise God for being patient in all our circumstances. Today s Key Verse: The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. (Psalm 23:1-2). Partnering with Parents Have you ever been on a road trip with your children that tried your patience? Imagine going on a 40-year road trip through the desert! The Israelites had quite a road trip story. What do you think their complaints reveal about their relationship with the Lord? How are your kids like or unlike the Israelites? What can you learn from God s response that could apply to your parenting style? Next week s lesson: God Gives the Ten Commandments (part 1) Exodus 19:16-20:21 Key Verse: Deuteronomy 6:5-6; We will learn that we honor God by obeying him.
