The Amazing Collection: The Bible, Book by Book Lesson Reviews for Facilitators Set 2: The Kingdom Books Joshua through 2 Kings The participants will begin with the new workbook, The Kingdom Books. It would be helpful to take a few moments with any new students reviewing the format of the class and the workbook. Pointing out the charts (especially the Chronological Relationship of the Old Testament Books on page 199), the maps on page 200-206, and the concept of the Complete Read and the Quick Read, will be a great help to them. Remind them that we are continuing history from the Pentateuch so it is important to take some time for a quick review of the events and the people in those first five books. The Story So Far from the book of Deuteronomy which follows will help you if you need a little refresher yourself! Again encourage the ladies to do all of their homework and to keep in mind that they are learning for life so you will be reviewing and reviewing the main characters and events in each book on a weekly basis. And above all enjoy the journey through this incredible book, God s Holy Word! The seven Kingdom Books continues the history of Israel from the conquering of the land, through the time of the judges and the monarchy and to its discipline and exile. They cover approximately eight hundred years from 1405 to 586 B.C.

Session Six: Joshua Land Conquered Introduction: The book of Joshua is a continuation of history that began with the book of Genesis. At the end of the Pentateuch in the book of Deuteronomy, the children of God are poised once again on the shores of the Promised Land. They have just spent 40 years wandering in the wilderness and the rebellious generation has all died. Moses has died and Joshua is ready to lead the younger generation into the Promised Land. Homework for the book of Deuteronomy: Because this is the beginning of a new set, homework review may not be appropriate if time has passed since completion of the last set and students do not have their workbooks with them. Page 138: All questions Page 142: All questions Page 145: All questions Page 149: All questions Oral Review: The Story So Far: The Pentateuch: Genesis: God created Adam and Eve who rebelled against Him and sin entered the world. As sin increased God flooded the world except Noah and his family. Later He confused the languages and nations were formed. God raised up Abraham and gave him three promises: people, land and a blessing. Abraham s great-grandsons moved to Egypt and were living in peace at the end of the book Exodus: Four hundred years later the Israelites were in slavery. God brought ten plagues on the people of Egypt and Moses led them out of the land and to Mt. Sinai. There God gave them the Ten Commandments and instructions for building the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle was placed in the center of the camp. Upon completion, the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle signifying that God was indeed with His people. It was there that God met with Moses and the Israelites. Now God s first promise had been fulfilled as Abraham s family was now a nation of almost 3 million people. They spent one year at Mt. Sinai. Leviticus:

Was a rule book for the priests and contained instructions for properly approaching God through animal sacrifice and also included laws for holy living for all of the Israelites. Leviticus did not add to the historical story but was an instructional book that clarified the way to God through sacrifice and the walk with God through sanctification. The laws given at Mt. Sinai were civil, moral and spiritual and would be the foundation for the nation as they settled in the land God was about to give them. They were now prepared to begin the journey to the Promised Land! Numbers: God led the people from Mt. Sinai heading to the Promised Land. Once at the border, 12 spies were sent in to access the country. They reported back that there were giants in the land and they were too afraid to go forward. Two Spies, Joshua and Caleb, knew that God would protect them and fight for them but the people refused to listen. God punished them with forty years of wandering until all of that generation had died. Only those children 20 and younger survived. Deuteronomy: Once again the people were at the border of the Promised Land. Moses gathered the people around and gave three sermons. He reviewed Israel s history, he reviewed the law, and he called for obedience and courage. Moses died at the end of the book and Joshua took his place as leader of the people. The people were now prepared to conquer the land God had promised Abraham. Watch the DVD for Joshua: Teacher: Testimony: Music: Vocalist: Pat Harley Bulimia Pam Fegan Come On Into the House Jennifer Carrozza Learning for Life: Take time at the end of the DVD for discussion using the questions that follow the DVD outline. Who: What: When: Where: Why: What to remember from Joshua: Land Conquered Joshua Conquering and settling the Promised Land The book covers 25 years (1405-1380 BC) 7 years in battle 18 years spent dividing among the 12 tribes Almost the entire book takes place in the land of Canaan. The Israelites, led by Joshua, conquered and settled the land God had promised Abraham and his descendents. Written Review: The written review is on the next page.

Wrap Up: Pray that the ladies would grow in their faith in the Lord so they might have the courage and strength of Joshua to face any battle that would come their way.

First Samuel: Samuel leads the people in the position of judge, priest and prophet. Toward the end of his life, the people demand a king. God then appoints Samuel to go to the home of a shepherd boy and anoint him with oil and pronounce that he would be the next king. The rest of 1 Samuel chronicles the ongoing conflict between Saul (who is filled with jealousy) and David who is a man after God s own heart. In the end, Saul is killed in war.
