St Catherine of Siena T: 9743 2166 E: principal@scmeltonwest.catholic.edu.au NEWSLETTER W: www.scmeltonwest.catholic.edu.au Term 3, Week 4 August 9th, 2017 Feast of the Assumption And Mary said, My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed. For all who are lowly and poor - Pray for us, holy Mother of God. For all women, made in the image and likeness of God - Pray for us, holy Mother of God. For mothers, nurturers of the image of God in their children - Pray for us, holy Mother of God. For those who have died sharing, with Mary, Christ s glory - Pray for us, holy Mother of God. For all of us disciples of Jesus, your Son - Pray for us, holy Mother of God. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you! Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen. Dear Families, Next Tuesday, August 15 the Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady when, according to our faith, Mary s body was assumed into heaven. While the bodies of both Jesus and Mary are now in heaven, there is a difference between the Assumption and the Resurrection. Where Jesus arose from the tomb and ascended into heaven by His own power, Mary's body was taken up to heaven by the power of her Son. In November 1950 Pope Pius XII solemnly defined the dogma of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven. In St Peter's Piazza in the presence of Cardinals, bishops, thousands of priests and more than a million people Pope Pius declared, "Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory,". While this Feast Day is a Holy Day of Obligation, over recent years it has also become an important celebration for both St Dominic s and St Catherine s schools. A few years ago, the students and staff of St Dominic s came down to St Catherine s to celebrate this Feast Day and share the day together. This has continued to grow and develop in the years since and is now an important tradition. In addition to celebrating an important Church Feast Day we are also strengthening our ties and relationships across the two schools and providing an opportunity for the children to catch up with friends and develop new relationships. The soccer match in the afternoon between the senior students from both schools has become a much anticipated event, with large cheer squads from both schools offering support. On this day mass will be celebrated at 11:45am and you are all warmly invited to join us. Last week I put information about Working With Children Checks in the newsletter. Any parent assisting on an excursion or in the school MUST have a current check. These can be applied for online. If you think you may like to assist within the school or on an excursion in the future please begin the process of enquiring about obtaining a check now. Have a great weekend Carmel Marantelli PRINCIPAL SCHOOL FEES Families who have paid their school fees in full by the end of Term 3 will go into a draw to receive 1 term of fees ($400) paid back to you. Families who are on a direct debit payment and have this up to date by the end of Term 3 will also be eligible to go into the draw.
At St Catherine of Siena, staff are continuously collecting data, in order to meet the needs of the students. The Australian Education Regulation 2013 requires all schools that receive Australian Government funding to provide information to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training about the adjustments that are made in classrooms to support individual students. The National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) is an annual data collection that counts the number of school students receiving adjustments to access the curriculum. Whilst the information provided to the Department of Education will not explicitly identify individual students, Victorian Catholic schools have been asked to provide individual student names for the purpose of future funding. If you wish for your child s name NOT to be specified on the NCCD collection provided to the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria, please contact Kristie Browning via the front office. Have a happy week.
