Parishes are the place where God s people meet Jesus in word and sacrament and come in touch with the source of the Church s life. In the ancient world, salt was used as a preservative while light, as it is today, provided illumination for the way forward. Since the Council of Jerusalem (ca.50 AD), the balance of preservation and illumination has been a challenge to the Christian community.
