Morning Worship * Please stand as you are able. Greeting Meditation Prelude THE CHURCH AT WORSHIP The Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost October 21, 2018 The threefold bell toll represents the doctrine of the Trinity: God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God of glory, through Christ Jesus you have shared with us the baptism of your Holy Spirit and the cup of the new covenant. Make us faithful disciples, serving the last and the least and giving our lives for others, so that we all may have a place at the table you have prepared. Amen. Prelude and Fugue Eleven O clock Rev. Ryan Clore Mr. Jim Council Charles Geissler Call to Worship Psalm 104:1-9, 24, 35b Congregation Leader: Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, you are very great. People: You are clothed with honor and majesty, wrapped in light as with a garment. Leader: You stretch out the heavens like a tent, you set the beams of your chambers on the waters, you make the clouds your chariot, you ride on the wings of the wind, you make the winds your messengers, fire and flame your ministers. People: You set the earth on its foundations, so that it shall never be shaken. Leader: You cover it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. As you rebuke they flee; at the sound of your thunder they take to flight. People: You set a boundary that they may not pass, so that they might not again cover the earth. Leader: O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Praise the Lord! People: Praise the Lord! Invocation Rev. Mary McDonald Speak, O Lord, as we come to you to receive the food of your Holy Word; Take your truth, plant it deep in us; shape and fashion us in your likeness, That the Light of Christ may be seen today in our acts of love and our deeds of faith. Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us all your purposes for your glory. Teach us, Lord, full obedience, Holy reverence, true humility; Test our thoughts and our attitudes in the radiance of your purity. Cause our faith to rise, cause our eyes to see your majestic love and authority. Words of pow r that can never fail, let their truth prevail over unbelief. Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds; help us grasp the heights of your plans for us. Truth unchanged from the dawn of time that will echo down through eternity. And by grace we ll stand on your promises, and by faith we ll walk as you walk with us. Speak, O Lord, til your church is built and the earth is filled with your glory! Will each of you, as deacons of First Baptist Church, covenant to serve faithfully the Lord Jesus Christ and willingly work together to bring glory and honor and praise unto the Lord our God? Deacons: I will, with God s help. Minister: Will you personally commit yourself to sharing Christian love in your public and private witness? Deacons: I will, in the power of His indwelling Spirit. Minister: Congregation, will you signify your commitment to join with these deacons in praying for them, encouraging them, laboring joyfully with them, and sharing faithfully together to make known the good news of Jesus Christ? If you will, please signify it by standing with them. Congregation and Deacons: We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a household of God, a temple of the Spirit, a colony of heaven, the body of Christ. We commit ourselves to join together in Christian love to serve our Lord and others in His name. Minister: Let us pray together the prayer Jesus taught his disciples to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
