FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 14, 2017 From the Desk of Fr. Ron, In the Rite of Baptism for children, after the Baptism water, the children are anointed with the oil of Chrism. The ritual text reads: He (God) now anoints you with the chrism of salvation. As Christ was anointed Priest, Prophet, and King, so may you live always as a member of his body, sharing everlasting life. Amen. Christ Jesus, most perfectly, fulfills His role as Priest in that He gave up His life freely for us; as Prophet because He spoke His heavenly Father s word to us; and as King because He sits at the right hand of God our Heavenly Father and governs His Body here on earth, the Church. In the second reading this weekend, from the first letter of Peter it states: Like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ (1 Peter 2:5). At our own Baptisms, we have been called and anointed with the Holy Spirit to join Jesus in His threefold mission. Sharing in the priesthood of the faithful, we too are called upon to offer prayer and daily sacrifices to the throne of God. Sharing in the Prophetic Role of the faithful, we are to know, understand, and boldly speak God s word to our world in the marketplaces of our lives. Sharing in the Kingly role, we are entrusted to govern our families with the values of God s Kingdom and promote Justice and Peace to our world. To the extent we are able to fulfill our calling others will come to realize, as the scripture declares, You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of His own, so that you may announce the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9). Let us strive to live up to our lofty calling. UPON THIS ROCK A word of thanks to all our parishioners who have responded thus far to my invitation to hear and consider a possible way to participate in the Upon This Rock initiative of our Bishop. More calls are being made daily to schedule appointments. We are also working on a team of people from Nativity who will assist me in meeting with parishioners individually. May the Lord continue to bless our efforts.fr. Ron. THE DIOCESE OF BUFFALO PRIESTS CONVOCATION in the Diocese of Buffalo will take place from Tuesday, June 6 th until Thursday, June 8 th 2017 at Christ the King Seminary. This yearly gathering of Religious Order and Diocesan Priests offer fine opportunities of rest, relaxation, renewed friendship, support and also theological continuing education. Please pray for our priests. Please be advised that our bishop has granted permissions for our parishes to conduct Communion Services within parishes on those days of the convocation according to need. A CONFERENCE IN ROME Fr. Ron will be joining members of Nativity Parish in attending the Charismatic Pentecostal conference in Rome hosted by our Holy Father Pope Francis from May 31 st to June 4 th. Fr. Ron will be taking some time for vacation before this and will be out of the parish from Wednesday, May 24 th to the end of the Priest s convocation here in Buffalo, Thursday, June 8 th. BELLS SOUNDING AT NATIVITY - A group of parishioners had approached me requesting me to consider the use of an exterior bell system to call people to worship, celebrate Sacraments, and even Toll for the deceased. The previous technology used in most churches is still installed but inoperative here at Nativity. The group raised the funds for the new technology system which will be installed upon a trial basis. I have approved the limited use of the Westminster Chime on the quarter hour which will benefit our local community, as well as the Call to Worship bells five minutes before Mass time and the other bell sounds that indicate Liturgical functions. Your feedback of the experience is most welcome. NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY CHURCH EVENTS IN OUR SISTER PARISHES ST. MARTIN DE PORRES will be having a whole Mortgage Burning Weekend of celebration, beginning on Friday, May 19, th as the Holy Name Society conducts evening prayer, a special awards presentation, and a wine & cheese jazz reception at St. Martin de Porres. A reception will follow. All are welcome to the celebrations. PARISH COUNCIL MEETING AGENDA Monday, May 15, 2017, 7:00-9:00 PM, Msgr. Malone will celebrate 10:30AM Mass in honor of Our Lady of Fatima on Sunday, May 14 at St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St., Buffalo. Fatima Facts: The Lady looked to be about 17 years old. She wore a mantle and a tunic that seemed to be made of light. Around her neck was a cord with a ball of light. There was a star toward the bottom of her tunic. In her hands were the beads of a Rosary which shone like stars, with the crucifix most radiant of all. She said "Do not be afraid. I will do you no harm." Lucia asked her: "Where are you from?" The Lady answered "I am from heaven." Lucia then asked the Lady, "What do you want from me?". The Lady answered, "I have come to ask you to come here for six months in succession, on the 13th day, at this same hour. Later on I will tell you who I am and what I want. Afterwards, I will return here yet a seventh time." May 13, 2017 - During a 2 day visit to the shrine in Fatima, Portugal to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Our Lady's appearance to the three shepherd children, Pope Francis will Canonize the 2 youngest visionaries - Francisco and Jacinta Marto!
