LEADER DEVOTIONAL While he was a prisoner on the island of Patmos, the apostle John had an amazing vision of heaven. Jesus told John to write down everything he saw. John saw things that will happen when Jesus comes back to earth. In the final chapters of the Book of Revelation, John described a vision of heaven itself. He wrote about the beauty of the New City the New Jerusalem. The streets will be pure gold, like clear glass. The foundations of the city wall will be adorned with precious stones. The city will not need the sun or the moon because God s glory lights up the city. There will be no darkness, and nothing evil will ever come into the city. There will be no sadness, crying, or pain. Even though there will be no sun or moon, there will be no darkness because the glory of God will be its light. The Lord will reign forever and ever. What an amazing place heaven will be! Even with John s descriptions, we can t imagine exactly what it will be like when Jesus returns. Use this session to emphasize what we do know, using the unit big picture question and answer: What will happen when Jesus comes back? Jesus will make all things new. The promised return of Christ should fill believers with hope, strengthening them to persevere through the trials of this life and remain faithful to the Lord. When Christ returns, those who trust in Him will be with Him and enjoy Him forever. God will undo every bad thing caused by sin no more death, no more pain, no more tears. Christ s return should also give believers a sense of urgency to share the gospel with the world. It is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes! (Rom. 1:16) Jesus is coming soon. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! 0

WELCOME Play the Unit music CD in the background as you greet preschoolers and welcome them to class. As children enter, have them decorate a paper bag. They will place their crafts, coloring pages, activity pages, and Big Picture card in the bag for easy transportation home. After children are finished decorating their bags, line them up outside the classroom along the wall for easy distribution and pick-up. *** Please remember to reference the class schedules posted in your room for the timing of your class's various activities. All Things New activity page, 1 per child pencils or crayons ACTIVITY PAGE Guide the preschoolers to draw a line connecting the sad picture to its corresponding happy picture. Say In this world, people get sick. People get hurt. People feel sad, but when Jesus comes back there will be no more death, no more sadness, no more crying, and no more pain. Those things will be gone forever! I can t wait for that day! Can you? We will hear more about that day in our Bible story 1

BIBLE STORY ***Two-year-old classes will listen to Bible Story while eating snack. ***Three-year-old classes will line up and march to 3B at 9:25/11:00. ***Four-year-old classes will line up and march to 4B at 9:40/11:10. Jesus Will Return Revelation 21 22 John had a vision of heaven. He heard a large crowd of people praising God. John saw the things that will happen when Jesus comes back to earth, and he wrote about what he saw. John saw a new heaven and a new earth. The first heaven and the first earth had disappeared. He also saw the Holy City, a new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. John heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, Look! God will live with His people. They will be His people, and He will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more sadness, no more crying, and no more pain. These things are gone forever. John saw an angel come and carry him to a high mountain. The angel showed him the holy city of Jerusalem. The city was shining with God s glory. The foundations of the city wall had every type of jewel, and the city street was made of pure gold, as clear as glass. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it. The glory of God gives light to the city, and there is no darkness. The city is safe and clean; nothing unclean is in the city and no one will do wrong things in the city. Then the angel showed John the river of living water. It sparkled and flowed from God s throne. God s servants will see His face, and they will worship Him. The Lord will reign forever and ever. Jesus said, Listen, I am coming soon! I am the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Jesus is the One who says that all of these things will happen. He is coming soon. Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! Christ Connection: Jesus said that He is coming back soon. When Jesus comes back, everyone who trusts in Him will be with Him forever. God will undo every bad thing no more death, pain, or tears! Jesus is making all things new. Bible Storytelling Tips Use props: Use props to help tell the story, such as jewels, gold, glass, the lights, and water. Pacing and tone: Start the story speaking normally, but gradually increase the pace at which you speak, adding excitement as you go. When you reach the words spoken by Jesus, drop your voice to a whisper and speak deliberately to emphasize His promise to return. 2

Make a City CRAFT Before the session, cut out medium-sized rectangles and small squares from construction paper. Make sure that at least two squares can fit side by side on the rectangles. Give each preschooler a sheet of blue construction paper. Set out the rectangles, squares, and circle. Show a preschooler how to glue rectangles on their paper to serve as buildings. Then show him how to glue squares on the rectangles to serve as windows. We have provided buildings to make a Dallas-like cityscape. Use the circle to make the Reunion Tower. Say What a beautiful city you built! In John s vision, John saw the city of Jerusalem coming down from heaven. Jesus said that He is coming back soon. When Jesus comes back, everyone who trusts in Him will be with Him in that city forever. God will undo every bad thing no more death, pain, or tears! Jesus will come back and make all things new. Supplies: construction paper rectangles/square/circle glue stick GAME Relay the Message Form two groups to line up on opposite sides of the classroom. Choose the first child in line in one of the groups to run to the other group, and shout, Jesus will come back! The first child in the second group can then run to the other group, and shout, Jesus will make all things new! Allow play to continue until all children have had a chance to relay a message. Say John saw a vision of heaven and he wrote it down. We now read about John s vision in the Book of Revelation. We can share Jesus message with our friends and family. Let s practice now: What will happen when Jesus comes back? Jesus will make all things new! OPTIONAL ACTIVITY Play a Game/ Sing a Song Please select a song or game from the optional activities tab in your binder to sing or play with the preschoolers. 3

SNACK AND PRAYER Take a restroom break and wash hands or use hand sanitizer. Choose volunteers to help set up for the snack. (Crackers and cups for water located in the cabinet above the sink.) Pray and thank God for the snack. Two-year-olds read bible lesson during snack while other preschool classes discuss the following: As kids eat: Remind the children that the city John saw had many jewels in its walls. The city will be beautiful, but the most beautiful part of the city will be Jesus Himself. Remind the children that Jesus always keeps His promises so we can trust that Jesus will come back and make all things new. Take prayer requests. Pray for each child by name. Pray for missionaries using our Mission Prayer Guide. CLOSING ACTIVITES Bible Story coloring page Crayons and markers Big Picture Cards paper clips and sticky notes (optional) Before doing closing activities please have the children help you clean up the toys and materials that have been used today. After the room is cleaned up, set out markers or crayons and let kids work on today s Bible Story Coloring Page until their parents arrive. You can also choose a book to read to the children as they color or for those who don t want to color. Please make the effort to have the children quietly engaged when parents arrive. When parents arrive to pick up their children, tell them something that their child enjoyed doing or did well today. Send kids home with their worksheets/crafts and this week s Big Picture Card. Place an Ask me what I learned today sticker on each child before they leave. BEFORE YOU GO Please clean up by doing the following: 1) Put away any remaining toys. 2) Use sanitizing spray to wipe down tables. 3) Sweep up any cracker crumbs or dirt. 4) Please return your bin, binder, and sign-in clipboard to the resource room across from Toddler A. 4
