DEACON GEORGE ANDERSON A Homegoing

HOMEGOING SERVICES CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF DEACON GEORGE ANDERSON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1996 r TWO O CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON UNION BAPTIST CHURCH 1800 GERMANY STREET COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA REVEREND HENRY L. EDMONDS, JR. -PASTOR- A Homegoing

OBITUARY Answering the call of God on Wednesday, August 28, 1996 at 4:15 a.m., our dearly beloved entered his Heavenly Home. George a native of Hopkins, South Carolina was the son of the late Margaret Sims and George Anderson. He was the second oldest of four children. He attended the public schools in Richland County, including Old Howard and Booker T. Washington High, Class of 1938. He served in the United States Army as a veteran during World War II and received a honorable discharge. In 1944, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Miss Helen Cannon, this union was blessed with a foundation of love that last fifty-two years. They were the proud parents of one loving daughter. Strong in Christian beliefs he joined the Union Baptist Church on Devine Street under the pastorship of Reverend Boykins. He moved with the church to Germany Street. Upon recommendation of Reverend Jenkins, he was ordained a Deacon and served as a senior deacon until his death. His personal mission in the church was to serve as treasurer of the Benevolent Fund. He faithfully attended to the needs of the sick and shut-in members. He was secretary of Union s Brotherhood Club, and a member of the City Wide Brotherhood, Men s Sunday School, The Prayer/Bible Study Class and the Jones McDonald Community Club. His career as a civil servant spanned forty-seven (47) years at the Dorn s Veterans Hospital in the Hospital s Physical Therapy Department until he retired in 1985. George was the kind of person that showed Christianity daily by the way he walk, it was easy to love him, listen to his advice, and place him in high esteem. Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by a sister, Ms. Rosa Sumpter, of Hopkins. Deacon George Anderson leaves to love and cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Helen C. Anderson; a loving daughter, Ms. Elaine A. Whitworth, of Durham, North Carolina; three grandchildren Njeri, Haile, and Shaina Whitworth; his great grandson, Tariq Dillard; his sister, Ms. Rebecca Noble, of Columbia, South Carolina; his brother, Mr. Robert Anderson, of Hopkins, South Carolina; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many other loving relatives and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
