Triangles strong like the Trinity! Structurally, the triangle is the strongest shape! Also, objects with 3 legs wobble a lot less than objects with 2 or 4. The Trinity Try making each of these with marshmallows and toothpicks: Pyramid Cube This is a story about the Blessed Trinity. There is ONE God, but there are 3 persons in God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Put pressure on the marshmallows from different sides. Which is stronger??? 30 3

We have a special prayer that we call the Sign of the Cross. We pray it like this: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Tips for Teaching the Sign of the Cross Set up a mirror with numbers and pictures for kids to look in while they practice. Use the pictures from page 4. When you demonstrate the sign of the cross facing young children, do it as a mirror image using your left hand. Spirit. Amen. Make a sign of the cross necklace. Use yarn and popsicle sticks to make a cross necklace with numbers. 4 Put a cross sticker on their sign of the cross hand. 29

How to draw a Trinity Symbol When we pray the Sign of the Cross, we draw a cross on ourselves. 28 5

When we pray the Sign of the Cross, we say the name of each one of the persons in the Trinity. Memory Verses from Scripture God the Father, God the Son, The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the holy Spirit be with all of you. 2 Cor 13:13 and God the Holy Spirit. Great are you, Lord God! There is none like you and there is no God but you, just as we have heard it told. 6 2 Sam 7:22 27

Trinity Food Ideas Bake some braided bread! If from scratch isn t your thing, use canned cinnamon rolls. Although there are 3 persons in God, there is only ONE God. Make Trinity Sundaes for Trinity Sunday. Use Neapolitan ice cream. 3 flavors in 1 carton. Serve hard boiled eggs. Enjoy apple slices! Add green food color to your pancake batter and pour in shamrock shapes. 26 7

God the Father is the first person of the Blessed Trinity. We can t really see him because he is a spirit, but sometimes we picture him as a man to help us think about him as our loving Father. Trinity Craft Ideas Make a Trinity Triangle out of 3 popsicle sticks. Add a string for hanging. Trace your hand and cut out. Fold down all fingers but pointer and add sign at bottom that says One God. Braid a Trinity bracelet. Make easy shamrocks from pipe cleaners, or add pony beads to make a 1 decade Trinity rosary. Twist small piece of pipe cleaner on the end to form a cross. 8 25

God the Father created the world and everything in it. He did this because he loves us very much! The Trinity Song (Tune of Twinkle Twinkle) St. Patrick shows to you and me a shamrock for the Trinity. The Father and his only Son plus the Holy Spirit are 3 in 1. St. Patrick shows to you and me a shamrock for the Trinity. 24 Hymn About The Trinity Father I Adore You 9

God the Son is the second person of the Blessed Trinity. We call him Jesus. Jesus is the Son of God, and the son of the virgin Mary. Jesus was born on the very first Christmas. He is God With Us or Emmanuel. Now it s Your Turn Of the 3 persons that you see... I came down to earth with parables to tell, born of a virgin, Emmanuel. I created the world, and the ocean blue, the birds and the fish, and even you! Which one am I in the Trinity? I help you do what you know you should. I give you grace that helps you be good. 10 Point to the correct answer. 23

It turns out the boy was actually an angel who only appeared as a boy! It was a miracle! The angel wanted us to know that no matter how much we try, we will not fully understand the mystery of the Trinity because we are only human. When Jesus grew up, he died on the cross to save us from our sins so that we can go to heaven. Whenever we hear or say the name Jesus, we bow our heads. However, this does not mean that we shouldn t try! We will fully understand the Trinity someday when we are in heaven with God. 22 11

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Blessed Trinity. Sometimes, we call him the Holy Ghost. We can t see him because he is a spirit, but sometimes we picture him as a dove because when Jesus was Baptized, the Holy Spirit appeared in the form of a dove. St. Augustine liked to think about the Trinity. One day, while he was walking on the beach, he saw a boy digging a hole in the sand. Then, the boy began getting water from the ocean, and pouring it in the hole. St. Augustine asked the boy, Why are you doing this? The boy said, I am going to put the ocean into this hole. St. Augustine said, The ocean will never fit in that hole! Then the boy replied, And so the idea of the Trinity will never fit into your head! Then he vanished! You received the Holy Spirit on your Baptism day, too! 12 21

Here is a good picture to help you understand the Holy Trinity. God also sent down the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday with rushing wind and tongues of fire! Father Son Holy Spirit See their relationship to each other? The Holy Spirit gives us grace, which helps us to do good, and to love God and each other. The Holy Spirit shares with us his gifts and fruits. 20 13

Although 1+1+1 does not equal 1, How else are these things like or unlike the Trinity? the 3 persons in the Blessed Trinity do make only 1 God. This is a mystery to us. 14 19

What about water? It becomes different things at different times depending on the temperature. But God the Father never turns into God the Holy Spirit, nor does God the Holy Spirit become God the Son. Saint Patrick explained the Trinity to the people of Ireland with a shamrock. These are just analogies. That means that these things are kind of like the Trinity, and they can help us think about the Trinity, but they are not exactly the same, because there is nothing else exactly like the Blessed Trinity. 18 Although there is just 1 shamrock, there are 3 equal parts, just like the Trinity. 15

Here are some more things that have 3 parts, although they are only 1 thing. How are these things like and not like the Trinity? 3 snowballs, 1 snowman 3 strings, 1 braid Each part of the Trinity is equally important. Could you not have a snowman with 2 snowballs, or with 4? 16 1 shape, 3 equal sides H2O can be water, ice, or steam 1 egg: shell, yellow, and white 1 Apple: peel, flesh, and seeds But there are always 3 persons in God. Could you not throw away an egg shell and still have an egg? We cannot get rid of any persons in the Blessed Trinity. 17
