ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH -STEWARDSHIP- STEWARDSHIP Who is a Christian disciple? One who responds to Christ s call, follows Jesus, and shapes his or her life in imitation of Christ s. Who is a Christian steward? One who receives God s gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord. How can there be three separate en es the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit yet all be the same God? Because it is difficult for us to fully grasp, this is a basic part of our Catholic faith. You may recall that St. Patrick explained it to the Irish by holding up a shamrock, which had three leaves. He pointed out that there were three dis nct leaves, but only one shamrock. In the second reading from his second le er to the Corinthians, St. Paul is concluding his le er. Our transla on states Mend your ways; encourage one another; agree with one another. This is excellent advice always, but as is o en the case, there is more depth to this statement than we may realize. The term mend your ways was be complete or be perfected in the original Greek (katar zesthe). The Holy Trinity makes God complete and perfect in so many ways. That is beyond our capabili es, of course, but we can s ll strive to make ourselves complete. One of the ways to do that is to adopt stewardship as a way of life, a type of living which has us striving daily to fulfill our role in the Church and to respond to our Bap smal calling. On the Feast of Corpus Christi (next Sunday, June 22nd) The total offertory in every parish of the archdiocese is dedicated to the support of those studying for the priesthood. For 2014-2015, over a million dollars is needed from this collection to support our seminarians studying for the priesthood. To achieve this goal, Archbishop DiNardo requests that you double the amount of your regular church support for the weekend of June 21-22. If each contributor will do this, the needed subsidy will be met by this collection. In gratitude for the incomparable gift of the Holy Eucharist which is inseparably joined to the priesthood, please do your part to help the archdiocese provide priests for the sake of your future by praying daily for vocations and supporting this collection. Visit our newly re-designed website www.stjta.org and join our Facebook forum.

ALSO FOR THOSE IN THE MILITARY AND THOSE WE HOLD IN OUR HEARTS If you or a member of your family experiences illness or injury call the parish office and we will add that name to the prayer list. We post the name in the bulle n for 4 weeks, and pray every day for those on the prayer list (present and past). The Gloria is used on all Sundays and major feasts throughout the year except during Lent and Advent; is a hymn and should be sung rather than recited; is a hymn to praise God for God s mercy and to acclaim the presence of the risen Lord in our midst; is omitted during Lent because of the church s desire to focus on the penitential aspect of that season, and during Advent because for a time the church also viewed that season as penitential. That Advent has never been considered as having the same penitential cast as Lent is shown by the fact that the Alleluia continues to be sung during Advent. The Gloria is omitted and in contrast comes back joyfully in the angels song at Christmas. Looking for SUMMER FUN?
