We Gather Prelude Welcome "Little Shop of Horrors" words by Howard Ashman, music by Alan Menken soloists Jessica Kehler, soprano, Katie Rattigan, alto, Nicola Sussman, alto Please sign the red Friendship Book in your pew. Call of the Engelbrecht Memorial Bell *Call to Worship Leader: Terrifying enemies surface- as such enemies often do- in the seemingly most innocent and unlikely of places. People: Greed, envy, division and conflict; Causing us to dream of new places. Leader: From the brokenness of Skid Row we dream of somewhere that s green, People: Where life is better, where love is sweeter. Leader: But in You O God, We realize that Love is not measured by how others treat us. People: True Worth is not measured by success in this world. Leader: In You Lord, is my true worth revealed. People: In You O Lord, do I find my fate and my future. Leader: Let us worship God. *Opening Hymn Blessed Be Your Name W&S #3002

*Opening Prayer (unison) It is tempting holy God, to measure our worth by the actions and behavior of others. It is easy to dream of a new day, a new life. And God, you teach us to dream, you call us to envision a new world. But in that dream, let us never forget our true selves. Forgive us, if in our zeal for a better life, we have forgotten the promises of our Baptism or neglected to care for others as your creation. Forgive us for those times when we have been tempted to sell out our values for the joys of life that can never really satisfy. Heal us and restore us O God, to the glory of your name. Amen. *Passing of the Peace We Listen Old Testament Reading Isaiah 55:1-9 John Brehmer Special Music "Feed Me (Git It!)" words by Howard Ashman, music by Alan Menken soloists: Robert Apgar, baritone, Jonas Dawson, baritone, Jessica Kehler, soprano, Katie Rattigan, alto, Nicola Sussman, alto *Gospel Reading Luke 19:1-10 Rev. We leave the Sanctuary following the Children s Message. For children 5 years and younger, our Nursery is available during the worship service. Following the worship service, we invite you to join us for fellowship. Welcome to Grace Church! The flowers on the altar this morning are given to the Glory of God by Peter Abell, in honor of his mother s birthday on September 14th, and in memory of his father, Ken, who died on September 17th, 2007. Welcome to our new student intern, Jessica Townsley. Jessica is a student at Chicago Theological Seminary and will be with us 10 hours a week from September 2018- May 2019. September on Broadway Sundays at 11AM throughout September Pastor Rob presents sermons based on popular Broadway musicals! Come join us for the fun and fantasy and to see how these musicals relate to scripture and topics in our everyday lives. Today s service will feature music from Little Shop of Horrors. Little Shop of Horrors is a delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names Audrey II after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for HUMAN BLOOD. As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of blood. Just when it s too late, Seymour discovers Audrey II s extra-terrestrial origins and his true drive for world-domination. Please join us for our 2 remaining services in the series: Sunday, September 23rd, 2018 Scripture: Luke 9: 1-8; Luke 9: 9-14 Luke 9: 15-17; Luke 9: 18-30 Sermon: What are you hunting for?
