TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH May 28, 2013 Vol. 47 No. 22 Register for a Summer Study! Forgiveness Adam Hamilton shows readers how to receive the freedom that comes with forgiving even if the person needing to be forgiven is yourself. One author said that this study not only reminds you about the importance of reconnecting the broken pieces of your life but shows how the process of grace and forgiveness is possibly your most complete picture of God. (4-week course) 1 hour session Offered: Sunday at 10:00 AM Wednesday at 6:00 PM Thursday at 9:15 AM Esther... It s Tough Being a Woman! Beth Moore leads an in-depth and personal examination of this great story of threat and deliverance. If you have ever felt inadequate, threatened, or pushed into situations that seemed overpowering, this is the study for you. Beth peels back the layers of history and shows how very contemporary and applicable the story of Esther is to our lives. PERSONAL WORD SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 2013 FULL COMMUNION 8:45 & 11:00 AM Sanctuary The 8:45 AM worship service is broadcast via 15-minute delay from 9-10 AM Sundays on WAPI-1070 AM & 100.5 FM SERMON Dr. Andrew Wolfe MUSIC 8:45 AM & 11:00 AM Sanctuary Choir, Theresa McKibben, Nick Nixon MINISTER ON CALL Andrew Wolfe, 871-1309 Wearing heavy steel-toed boots, rough leather utility belts, and shiny yellow hard hats, about 20 men from Trinity gathered on Saturday, May 18, in the cool morning air in Clay, to saw 2X4 s to size, to swing hammers that slammed nails into studs, to heave on the count of three to set walls. You could feel their enthusiasm! I grinned at their gendered grunting and teeth gritting eagerness, and I was inspired by their carrying on the profession of a carpenter from Nazareth who was continuing his vocation through their calloused hands and sweaty brows. I was proud to be a part of Trinity United Methodist Church s work to usher in the Kingdom of God by building a Habitat Home for a family none of the volunteers had met before that morning. Kim Toler (pictured next page), a mother of three children and future homeowner, was there with her sleeves rolled up and a lump in her throat; simultaneously giddy, grateful and helpful. When I met Kim that morning, I met another member of her family who was there to help contribute to the sweat equity Habitat requires of homeowners and their families. I assumed then that another lady, presumably in her 50 s, was also there as a family member to pitch in for a loved one. But she wasn t related to Kim. In fact, she had just met Kim, like me, that morning. I asked what brought her out to volunteer for Kim s house, and she replied with a smile that she had been the recipient of a Habitat build, and she tried her best to volunteer to help new home owners, because so many people had helped her. That s cool. When was your house finished, I asked. She thought for a moment and said, Well, I guess this summer will be 19 years ago. WESLEY HALL 11:15 AM Rev. Nathan Carden I guess the only way she could think to respond to God s goodness to her was to become a volunteer carpenter herself. Seeing her busy that morning, working to help a stranger, was the best sermon I saw all week. Serving Christ with you, Seeing her busy that morning, working to help a stranger, was the best sermon I saw all week. Rev. Nathan Carden information for guests & new members Welcome to Trinity United Methodist Church! Our mission is to Gather people to Christ, Grow people in Christ, Go to serve Christ in the world and Glorify Christ. Sunday Worship Opportunities: 8:45 & 11:00 AM Traditional services in the sanctuary, offering same sermon and a variety of music. 11:15 AM CONTACT a relaxed, informal, service in Wesley Hall featuring praise music from the CONTACT Band, children are encouraged to attend. 10:00 AM Sunday School Ages 2 years and up.
