Copyright 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved. Pope Francis Tweet for the Week The world needs saints, and all of us, without exception, are called to holiness. We are not afraid! Go Green! The Green Team is collecting yarn for a group of ladies that are knitting or crocheting hats, gloves and possibly blankets for those in need. If you have skeins of yarn around the house and are looking for someplace to donate it, bring it to the Narthex and look for the yarn collection box on, or near, the Green Team collection cart. As a reminder, we are also collecting DVD s and LP s. Thank you for helping to reuse, recycle the things that you no longer need or want. 2018 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal Pledge Report as of 10/14/18 Your participation in the CMAA is important. PARISH GOAL: $40,600 AMOUNT PLEDGED: $41,320 AMOUNT PAID: $36,344 REMAINING BALANCE: $ 4,976 DONORS THIS YEAR: 245 (29 less than last year) REBATE AMOUNT: none yet. The Green Team ATTENTION: FAIR TRADE IS NOW ETHICAL TRADE Ethical Trade Sale: Saturday and Sunday November 10-11 Before and after all Masses Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has a long-standing partnership with Serrv. Serrv is a non-profit organization that creates meaningful, long-term connections with disadvantaged artisans and farmers worldwide. Serrv has been lifting artisans and farmers out of poverty for over 65 years as a leader and pioneer of the fair trade movement. Serrv currently works with 60 community groups in 30 countries. CRS eases suffering and provides assistance to people in more than 100 countries without regard for race, religion, or nationality. CRS works alongside Serrv to educate communities in sustainable farming and artisan practices. Serrv donates a percentage of your purchase to the CRS Ethical Trade Fund which is then recycled into development grants overseas. Behind every handcrafted item in the CRS Ethical Trade Catalog, there is a story of an empowered artisan or farmer who is supporting his or family through fair payments and respectful relationships. These stories include safe working conditions, more children attending school and eating healthy meals, and income saved for a better future. When you purchase Ethical Trade products, you are living out our Gospel call to care for the poor, to recognize the dignity of work and to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world. RACHEL'S VINEYARD RETREAT November 2 - November 4. 2018 Rachel s Vineyard weekend retreats are a beautiful opportunity for any person who has struggled with the emotional or spiritual pain of an abortion. The retreat is a very specific process designed to help you experience the mercy and compassion of God. It is also an opportunity to surface and release repressed feelings of anger, shame, guilt and grief. There are many exercises to help you grieve the loss of your unborn child and to receive and accept God s forgiveness. The retreat concludes with a Memorial Service. The weekend will help your soul find a voice, and transform the pain of the past into love and hope. Post abortive women and men are encouraged to attend. The next scheduled retreat will be held November 2-4, beginning Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. and continuing through Sunday early afternoon. Contact Kay at 1-866-99-4-GIVE (4483) for additional information. Page 3 Domestic Violence Awareness Month Ending Domestic Violence Starts in the Home This is where we teach our children what relationships look like every day. Remember, when you teach your child how to be a part of a healthy relationship, you are teaching him or her both not to be a victim and not to be an abuser. Model a healthy relationship. It is impossible to teach children how to prevent domestic violence in their own future homes unless you can model that type of relationship for them. Teach your children about respect and consent. Teach your children that healthy relationships do not involve pressure, force, or coercion, and that if someone loves them, they will never try to make them do something they are not comfortable with. Help your children develop a healthy level of self-esteem. You can help your children develop self-esteem by bonding with them when they are young, spending quality time together, praising their achievements and encouraging their talents, and telling them frequently that they are loved and valued. Teach your children about the importance of equality. A relationship that is unbalanced, where one partner has more power than the other partner, is more likely to become abusive. From: 12 Ways to Raise a Confident Child by Dr. Sears and Unknown Sources All Souls Day November 2, 2018, 7:00 pm mass During the month of November, we will remember our departed family members and friends. Using either the All Souls envelope included in your regular envelope mailing, or one of the envelopes provided in the Narthex, you may write the names of the people you especially wish to have remembered. These names will be included on a Our Beloved Dead poster during the month of November (updated weekly), and then in the parish bulletin. The names of those buried from Christ the Servant this past year will be read during the All Souls liturgy. All will have the opportunity to light a candle in memory of deceased loved ones at the end of the mass. All are invited to bring a photo of your deceased loved one to place on a table near the altar during the All Souls Mass.

When properly prescribed for serious illness, patients can have pain medications safe and effective without risk to life, and generally they stay alert as well. While pain medications may have side-effects, doctor and patient must assess the good they intend, and proceed only if the good outweighs unintended adverse effects. The key is that no one INTENDS bad effects. Assisted suicide is never morally permissible. Palliative care also addresses symptoms beyond physical pain, namely psychological, emotional, and spiritual problems. St. John Paul II called palliative care the way of love and true mercy. For the complete story, we encourage you to pick up the USCCB flyer, available in the narthex, entitled Killing the pain, NOT the patient: Palliative care vs. Assisted Suicide. We invite you to attend an area regional conference entitled Natural Death Interrupted the Aid in Dying Movement...Unpacked, at ST.
