He is Father Okumu s Nephew. Mass will be held at regular times starting the week of October 22 nd. Vision 20/20 As part of his initiative Vision 20/20: From Pentecost to Pentecost Bishop Zinkula asks each parish to hold a Listening Session to respond to specific questions regarding evangelization based on Pope Francis book, Joy of the Gospel. The meeting will be led by a diocesan representative with the parish responses recorded and presented to the bishop. Our meeting will be held Thursday November 8 th in the parish hall at 6:30 PM in Tipton. It will last no more than 1 ½ hours. All are welcome to attend. Copies of Pope Francis s book are in the church; please check one out and read it. This book can also be purchased in bookstores or online. Drawings should be done on white, 8 ½- by 11- inch paper in colored pencil, crayon, marker or paints. Please submit original artwork only; no black and white drawings. The artwork should focus on the religious nature of Christmas. If using the color yellow, please use a deep yellow or make sure it is surrounded by a dark color. Yellow is hard to reproduce. The contest, which has a Nov. 15 postmark deadline, is open to youths living in or attending school, home school or religious education in the Diocese of Davenport. Messenger staff members will judge the entries based on originality and the ability to convey what Christmas means to Catholics. Entries must include first and last name, age, grade, home address, school (public, private or home school with the school s location) and parish (name and city) on the back of the drawing. Please do not fold entries. Any information omitted could be grounds for disqualification. Winning entries will be featured in The Catholic Messenger s Christmas edition (Dec. 20). The drawings also will be featured on The Catholic Messenger Web site: www.catholicmessenger.net. All entries should be postmarked by Nov. 15 to The Catholic Messenger, 780 W. Central Park Ave., Davenport, IA 52804-1901.

We will pray the rosary together during classtime on October 21 bring your rosary if you have one but we have plenty if you need one! Next gatherings are November 4, 11, and 18. Confirmation Class of 2020 students in this year s 8th and 9th grades: Wednesdays November 5 and 12 at 7 p.m. in the hall. Grades 10, 11, 12 The plan is to meet first and third Wednesdays in November in the hall! Check in with Katie Ryan or another member of one of these grades for more information. Adults, young and old, day Studies are at 9 a.m. in the religious education office in the parish hall. We study and reflect on the lectionary Scripture of the day and liturgical seasons of the church. Singing/Praying: People interested in singing for the joy of singing are invited to sing through some new and some familiar music Wednesday, October 24, 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. in the Church. Knights Corner The intent of the Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities (CPID) Drive is that the money is to be used specifically and explicitly benefit individuals who have Intellectual Disabilities. Fr. Eugene Benda Council #11468 donates the funds collected to the Tipton Life Skills which serves all of Cedar County. Last year our council donated 1,367.10 to the Life Skills class. We will be handing out Tootsie rolls after all masses in October for donations to People with Intellectual Disabilities. Thank you in advance for your help in making this Campaign possible. Our HACAP pick-up is scheduled for Tuesday October 23 rd at 9:00 am. We will need help unloading, shelving and bagging beginning around 9:45 at the pantry on this day. Special Thank you to all our volunteers for completing the Civil Rights Training in September. Our October distributions are scheduled for the following dates: Thursday, October 25 th 6:00 7:00 pm Saturday, October 27 th 9:00 10:00 am It s hard to believe but we are starting to plan for our November & December distributions. Our distribution dates will be as follows for the months of November & December: Thursdays, November 8 th & 15 th and Saturday, November 17 th Thursdays, December 13 th & 20 th and Saturday, December 15 th We will be providing Thanksgiving Baskets again this year during our distributions on November 15 th & 17 th. We could use the following items: corn, green beans, peas, peaches, mixed fruit, apple sauce, and spaghetti sauce. Thanks! We hope to give 60 baskets this year. St. Mary's Church is asked to provide 60 cans of pumpkin for these baskets. It can be any brand of pumpkin in a 15-15.5 oz can. This is used as part of a pumpkin dessert. Please bring your cans of pumpkin to the church on or before day, November 11, 2018. Thanks for your help with this worthy project! The knights of Columbus will be selling Tootsie Rolls after mass for 20 a box. All proceeds will go to disabled kids. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
