TWENTY - FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 24, 2017 First Reading: Isaiah 55:6-9 Isaiah expresses an urgent plea that all should seek the Lord and turn to him for mercy. Second Reading: Philippians 1:20c-24, 27a In a strongly personal message from Paul while in prison, he says that he wishes to be freed from this life and to be with Christ, but he realizes that he still has much important work to do. Gospel: Matthew 20:1-16a Jesus tells the parable of the owner of an estate who hires workmen for his vineyard. When, at the end of the day, he pays a full day s wage to those who worked only one hour, those who worked all day complained bitterly. But the owner says, I am free to do as I please, am I not? Jesus reminds us through this parable that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. HERE S WHAT S COMING UP THIS WEEK SEPTEMBER 25TH -OCTOBER 1ST MONDAY - 9/25 - Weekday TUESDAY-9/26 Sts. . FAREWELL TO FATHER JOHN PALATUCCI SAINT AEDAN CHURCH PAROCHIAL VICAR 2015 2017 Thank you for sharing your priestly ministry with us these past two years. We appreciate all you have done for us and we will miss you! God bless you in your new assignment to the faith community of Saint John the Evangelist in Pawling. Ad multos annos Many more years! The Parish Family of Saint Aedan Msgr. Emmet R. Nevin, Pastor WELCOME FATHER IVAN LOVRIC NEWLY ASSIGNED PAROCHIAL VICAR The parish family of Saint Aedan is very pleased to welcome our new Parochial Vicar, Father Ivan Lovric. Father is Croatian and comes from Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is from a family of two and feels closely bonded with his family both here and abroad. He completed seminary training in Sarajevo in 2002 and was ordained a priest in June of that same year. He recently observed his fifteenth anniversary in the priesthood by celebrating mass on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul. Over the past fifteen years, Father Ivan has served as Parochial Vicar in three parishes as well as editor of a Catholic weekly magazine and president of a Catholic school center. Father Ivan s most recent ministry was in the United States at the Church of the Annunciation in Crestwood, Westchester County, where he served from 2007 2015. During this time he also pursued and completed his graduate studies at Fordham University where he was awarded an MA in Religious Education and a PhD in Educational Leadership. Father Ivan became a US citizen in 2016. During his relaxation time he enjoys reading books and is a tech fan. All of us at Saint Aedan are so very grateful to have Father Ivan as our new parish priest and we pray that he will experience much happiness and many spiritual blessings during his assignment with us. ANNUAL BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1ST AT 2:00P.M. WE INVITE YOU TO BRING YOUR PETS TO THIS ANNUAL BLESSING WHICH TAKES PLACE, EACH YEAR, ON THE SUNDAY CLOSEST TO THE FEAST OF SAINT FRANCIS. (THE ACTUAL FEAST DAY IS WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 4TH.) FAMILY PANCAKE BREAKFAST RESUMES SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1ST AFTER THE 8 AM & 10 AM MASSES Please plan on joining together with your fellow parishioners and their families for a delicious breakfast consisting of pancakes, cereal, sausage & scrambled eggs, juice and coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Many thanks to Ray Stormes and his kitchen committee for providing this family breakfast on the 1st Sunday of each month throughout the school year. RENEW AND REBUILD CAMPAIGN MATCHING GIFT PROGRAMS BIDDING PROCESS IS UNDERWAY This week, Msgr. Nevin met with the representative of Aramack, the firm which the Archdiocese appointed to oversee parish capital project proposals from start to finish. We have now received the necessary three proposals for our AC/Heating project from three different companies and we are busy digesting all of the information they submitted. We should be within a week or so of awarding the contract to one of the three companies. Stay tuned! As mentioned last week, it would be wonderful if the business men and women among us would investigate if their companies offered MARCHING GRANTS for charitable or not for profit projects such as ours. This would give you (and us) twice the bang for your buck. Again, we are now concluding the solicitation phase of our parish Renew & Rebuild Campaign. After our upcoming meeting with the parish Renew and Rebuild Committee, we will publish a report in the bulletin. We are very grateful to all of you who have stepped up to support our parish campaign and me, your pastor, by sending in your gifts and pledges. Because of your financial sacrifices, we are now moving forward with the first of our proposed capital projects, the installation of a new Air Conditioning and Heating system. ADULT ALTAR SERVER MINISTRY I came to serve, not to be served. Join us! Be of Service Experience the joy of being an Adult Altar Server. This is a special ministry whereby an adult man or woman assists the priest during funeral Masses. In many cases, it is one of the most beautiful celebrations you ll attend lending a special element of consolation and support for the deceased family. If you are interested please contact Bob Reers at 548-2256 or else speak with our pastor, Msgr. Nevin. WEDDING BANNS II. The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia.
