Memorize: Please fill in the blanks: 1 John 2:1 My little, I am writing these things to you you may not sin. But if does sin, we have an with the Father, Christ the righteous. Please open this time in prayer asking the Lord to give you that wisdom and revelation as you study His word. Why do we try to sugar coat or justify sin? 4. What is the hope that we have from verse 7 that can give us the courage to be honest about our sin?

5. This passage has 5 if statements in it. What are they? a. Vs. 6 If we... b. Vs. 7 If we... c. Vs. 8 If we... d. Vs. 9 If we... e. Vs. 10 If we... 6. Which of the 5 if statements are attached to hope and promise? 7. What is that promise? 8. From vs. 8 and 10 we see that God knows and expects that we will sin. Why, then, do we think that He is angry with us for our sin? 9. What do the following verses tell us about God s faithfulness to forgive us? a. Psalm 103:10 b. Psalm 103:12 c. Ephesians 1:7 10. What do the following verses tell us about God s justness to forgive us? a. Isaiah 53:5-6 b. Romans 3:23-24 c. Romans 5:8-9 11. The Greek word for cleanse from vs. 7 and 9 means, removing all intermingling of filth. How can that offer hope to us when we feel stuck in our sin? 12. Please close in prayer, sharing with the Lord with the Lord what you learned about your sin and His forgiveness.

Pray: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 says, Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; He will surely do it. As you open this time in prayer, please ask the Lord to help you to cooperate with Him completely as He sanctifies you completely, and thank Him for His faithfulness to work in your life. Memorize: Please fill in the blanks: 1 : My, I am to you you not. But if does, an with the, Christ the. Study: Please read 1 John 2:1-6. 1. What is your natural tendency of belief about God s view of your sin? 2. John said, I am writing these things to you To what things is he referring? 3. What did John say was the reason for writing these things? 4. How would what he wrote in the previous verses motivate us not to sin? 5. What does this tell you about how God sees you when you sin?

7. Vs. 2 says that Jesus is the propitiation for our sin. The Greek word for propitiation means, An atoning sacrifice, an offering to appease an offended party. What does this tell you about the character of God? 8. Describe what Jesus went through to be our propitiation. (See Psalm 22, Isaiah 53, John 18-19.) 9. The book of Revelation is a prophetic letter written to explain what will happen in the end times. Revelation 12:10 says, And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. This is referring to Satan. a. What is Satan called? b. What does he do day and night? c. What does this prophetic verse say has happened to him? d. Why has it happened? 10. Satan is called the Accuser. Jesus is called our Advocate. How can we keep from mixing up our understanding of God so that we don t think of Jesus as our accuser? 11. Looking back at your answer to #1, how does your natural tendency of belief line up with God s word in vs. 1-2? 12. Close today in prayer, thanking the Lord for His great sacrifice.

Pray: Jude 24-25 says, Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Memorize: 1. Please write out your memory verse. 2. What impact does this verse have in your life? Study: Please read 1 John 1:5-2:6. 1. In vs. 3, the word know is used twice. A good understanding of it would be, And by this we realize that we have come to personally, intimately understand Him Why would John say that keeping His commandments is evidence of truly knowing Him? 2. Why would disobedience to Him be evidence of not really (personally, intimately) knowing Him? 3. What does vs. 4 say about the person who claims to know God but doesn t obey Him? 4. John uses the word, keep 3 times. When words are repeated multiple times, it s usually because the writer is trying to make a point. Look at the context of the word keep for each time it s used. What point do you think John is trying to make?

5. Looking back at vs. 1-2, we see that God not only knows that we sin, but He also is our Advocate and the payment for our sin. Vs. 5 says that His love is perfected in us when we keep His word. Please explain how both vs. 1-2 and vs. 5 are not contradicting each other. 6. According to vs. 5-6, how can we be sure that we are in Him? 7. What does it mean to abide in Him? 8. Please look up the following verses as examples of how Jesus walked and explain what He modeled to us: a. Philippians 2:1-11 b. 1 Peter 2:21-23 c. Ephesians 4:32 9. Of the characteristics He modeled to us, in what areas do you struggle to walk in the same way in which He walked? 10. Looking back over 1 John 1:5-2:6, what are some specific ways that you can handle those areas of struggle? Please choose one area of struggle from #9 and apply the following verses to how you will handle it: a. 1:5-6 b. 1:7 c. 1:8, 10 d. 1:9 e. 2:1-2 f. 2:3-6 11. What attributes of God do you find from 1 John 1:5-2:6? 12. Please close in prayer, thanking the Lord for those attributes you listed in #11.
