ORDER OF WORSHIP January 13 2013 9:00 am Welcome to First Worship! We extend a welcome as broad as the outstretched arms of God, who calls us to be here together to rejoice in God s glorious presence. Welcome to children of all ages to all the children of God, each one of us. If you are an old friend or here for the first time, we welcome you. Our worship is an intergenerational experience and we want children to feel fully included. We remember that worship offers us all a special place to be with God. In this space we talk a little more softly and walk a little more quietly. We are listening for God. PRELUDE RINGING IN THE HOUR Come Whoever You Are CALL TO WORSHIP Jocelyn Gardner Spencer

An Invitation from the Community Ministry After 10 am Worship, Upper Room Community Ministry is exploring ways to expand our ministry of keeping in touch with our church members who would be grateful for a friendly visit every now and then. Our experience is that these visits are welcomed so easily and appreciated so very much. If this is something you would like to hear more about, and think you d be interested in, come join us after 10 am worship in the Upper Room (upstairs) where Ron Smith and Kathy Musser will talk more about our ideas, and the sort of training we ll be offering to equip you more fully for this ministry. Second Sunday Bible Study 11:30, Library We invite you to join us for a monthly Bible Study focused on the preaching text of the day. No commitment necessary -- come whenever you're able. We meet the second Sunday of each month. All are welcome! Parking The Holman family has always been very generous in letting church members park on Sundays in their main parking lot off Church St., behind their Church Square stores (E. A. Davis, Blue Ginger, etc.). However, they request that we do NOT park in their back lot, off Abbott St. It contains assigned spaces for store tenants, who often come to work before noontime on Sundays and must park in their respective spaces. Some of our members have been parking in that lot, occupying tenants' spaces; but from now on it would be appreciated if we all would confine our parking to the main lot immediately behind Davis's and Blue Ginger. We are welcome there. Thank you. 7th & 8th Grade Youth Group 5 pm, Youth Room High School Youth Group 7 pm, Youth Room For information about youth programs, contact Pam Emslie at 781.235.1988 x15 or pam@wellesleyvillagechurch.org. January is our Season of Covenant Join us as we celebrate and seek to strengthen the ties we share as members of Village Church. Last year we did so with our first-ever congregation-wide calling initiative- 60 Deacons making phone calls to every member to thank you for being a part of this church. It was such a success that we are eager to do so again. We will not be asking survey questions or asking for money, but simply to inquire how things are going with you? We see these calls as an important way for us to live out our covenant vows with one another. Deacons will be making these calls the week of January 14-18. You can do your prayer by well, by answering your phone that week! The conversations need not be long, but our Deacons would love to talk with you in person. The Village Church Moms' Group We will have our January Dinner on Tuesday, January 15 at 7 pm, at the home of Darcey Bartel. This casual, 'come when you can' group, welcomes moms of all ages for monthly get-togethers away from the family, usually for a dinner in someone's home or a restaurant, or perhaps for a service opportunity. It's a great way to meet new friends and other Moms at our church. If you are interested in being on our email distribution list, please email Amy Hille at amyhille@yahoo.com, or if you are interested in attending the dinner on the 15th. We hope you can join us!

Share the Dream Service Sunday, January 20, 10 am, at Charles Street Church Bus reservation deadline is Thursday, January 17 For twelve years now we have been worshiping with our partner congregation on the weekend of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and it is always a highlight of the year. Once again this year there will be shared leadership of worship, including joint choirs and there will be a time of fellowship after worship. Please join us for this special day as we are hosted at Charles Street Church for this joyous celebration! If you wish to avoid the hassle of driving and parking, you can make reservations to travel by bus by signing up with Ron Smith during Fellowship Hour or by emailing Ron at lindasmith43@verizon.net. The bus will leave from the Church Street side of the building at 9 am sharp and will leave Boston at 1:00 pm. The deadline for a bus reservation is Thursday, January 17. If you have any questions call Ron Smith at 781.237.6813. There will be information in the Enews the week before with the location and driving directions. Pillowcase Dresses for Fumbelo and Haiti Wednesday, January 23, 9:30 am, Village Common We invite anyone who enjoys sewing either by hand or machine to join the Sewing and Knitting group for a marathon workshop. We have recently learned that cute sundresses can EASILY be created from pillowcases with just a few steps, and we will spend this day making a variety of these dresses which will be sent to young girls in Fumbelo and Haiti. The pillowcases will be provided (or you can bring any you would like to donate that would make pretty sundresses for girls), and donations of ¼ ½ wide elastic, ½ wide double fold bias tape, white and colored threads, and decorative trims such as ribbon, lace, rickrack, etc., would especially be helpful. Portable sewing machines would also be welcome. Some of the work will be done by machine and some by hand. The workshop will continue into the early afternoon, but feel free to come for whatever time you wish. Lunch of homemade soup, salad, dessert and beverage will be provided. To help in the planning for the day, please contact Ruth Breden (781-235-0193) or Bobbie Hayes (781-235-1059) if you would like to be part of this fun sewing time. Climate Reality Workshop The Environmental Ministry invites you attend a Climate Reality Workshop sponsored by the Sustainability Wellesley leadership team. It will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Society on January 25 at 7pm. This presentation will be a run-up to our Environmental Ministry program in May on issues of global warming and likely environmental impacts.
