Mr. Stines has served several churches as interim pastor while teaching in the New Hanover Counth School System (1957-1964). Rev.. Stines has held every office or position in the Association work with the exception of Director of Missions. Conversion Experience At the age of eleven I accepted the Lord and joined Long Creek Baptist Church of Dallas Having had a good pastor as well as Sunday School and training union leaders made me h real desire to seek God's will for my life while growing up. My parents were not active in church but my love has been for Christ Church. Durin summer of 1953 God called me into the ministry. At this leading I began my education dire in fields that would open doors for the ministry. After marriage and a period of teaching in the New Hanover County School System, began to open doors that led me to the full time ministry. My Call to Missions For several years I feel that God has been preparing me for mission work througl Association. Since the early days of my ministry the Association has been an important p my service for the Lord. Having held every office other than the Director of Missions was a that God has lead. I believe that the Association has a responsibility to the churches in he them to work together in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with all people; therefore I fee this is God's will for my life. "Here I am Lord Send me". Key References: Rev. James Hanlin, Director of Missions, Pilot Mountain Association. I have been very pleased with Ed's participation and leadership in this Association. Ee served this Association well in many key positions but especially as clerk and moder Rev. Larry McClure, Area Missionary Eastern North Carolina. Ed is a very warm caring person who is genuinely interested in the spiritual welfare c people he serves. The association has always been an important factor in his ministry work that I have seen him involved in has been strengthened under his leadership. T especially true in his present pastorate. He prepares well. You will discover that whatev challenge, he will do his best to know how to get at the task at hand. Ed has a world vie will call for the best from the churches of the Wilmington Association. Rev. Stines' concept of the Association: To foster fellowship and unity of faith and practice among member churches. To give direction, guidance, and assistance to the churches to help them become what they believe God wants them to be. To work closely with the churches as they become involved in direct and cooperative mission activities. To serve as a liaison between the Baptist State Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention in furthering the spirit of cooperation among the churches. Missions or evangelism? You cannot separate the two. The ideal for any Association is to have a balance of emphasis on missions and evangelism. This will be my goal. Rev. Stines concept of the Director of Missions Role: Responsible to the Association and Executive Committee in carrying out the objectives of the Association. Provide general supervision of the programs of the Association. Work with the Baptist State Convention and Southern Baptist Convention in correlating and interpreting activities and programs as they relate to the local churches and Association. An administrator, a coordinator, and counselor with pastors and church staff as well as church leaders. An enabler and equipper to the pastor and church leaders in providing assistance in the local church program and ministry through study courses: deacon training; vacation Bible schools; stewardship emphasis; curriculum evaluation: surveys: etc.
The Search Committee of the Wilmington Baptist Association highly recommends the call of Rev. Charles Edward "Ed" Stines as our Director of Missions. Upon the approval of the General Board and the acceptance by Rev. Stines he will begin serving our Association on January 1, 1987. The committee has spent several months seeking God's will in this matter and feels that God has lead us to Ed Stines. Ed is no stranger to this area, having served two churches of this Association in the 1960's. His style of leadership is marked upon those communities and churches that he has served over the years. In all cases they have been strengthened and have provided guidance to other churches in our state. Mr. Stines has proven by his administrative skill to stabilize churches by his positive leadership and bring them forth as strong supportive churches to the cause of Christ throughout North Carolina. God has prepared this man for our needs in this Association. We recommend the call of Rev. Stines based upon the following proposal: 1. He will begin service on the field January 1, 1987. (Note that January 1 is observed as a holiday in this Association; therefore, his first day in the office will be January 2, 1987) 2. The salary package of $35, 727 will be provided in this call. This is the approved package of the Association. Sub-accounts such as housing, utilities, etc. will be worked out upon the purchase of a house in the Wilmington area by the Stines. 3. The Association will bear the expense of moving the Stines household furnishings to Wilmington from Kernersville, N.C. This is estimated lo be approximately $2500. 4. Note of interest The Missionary House Committee has given approval for the use of the missionary home for the Stines until their house is sold in Kernersville, N.C. It is understood that schedules have been made with a missionary family for early summer and that this house must be available fof that commitment Recommending... The Rev.
