Lesson 11: Christians Care for One Another May 14 Bible Point: God helps us do good things for others. Key Verse: Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 18:19-20 Getting Started 10 min Getting Started: Welcome As the children arrive, greet each one and welcome him or her with a smile. Toys 2. Books 3. Paper/ Crayons Start clean up time with the clean up song: Say, I Am! (tune of If You re Happy and You Know it ) If you are cleaning up, say, I am. If you are cleaning up, say, I am. If you are cleaning up, If you are cleaning up, If you are cleaning up, say, I am. Teachers: Prepare you class for Community Time. Worship 8-10 Minut es Community Time: Worship Lead the kids in 2-3 of the following songs (see attached song sheet for direction if needed) Jesus Loves Me Jesus Loves the Little Children This Little Light of Mine I ve Got the Joy Song Sheet

Lesson 15-20 min Community Time: Lesson Place the puppet (Theo) somewhere near where you will be sitting so the children can easily see him. Before class: Place one piece of the Early Encouragers puzzle in Theo s hand. Open your Bible to Acts 2 and show the children the words. LL: Welcome everyone! Hello, Theo. It is good to see you all at church today. Theo: Good morning, everyone. It is great to be here. LL: Theo, it looks like you have a puzzle piece there. Theo: That s right. I brought it from home. LL: One puzzle piece looks a bit lonely. Theo: It looks lonely because there are no other puzzle pieces stuck to it. LL: That s right. Puzzles are made when lots of puzzle pieces stick together to make one large picture. Church is like a puzzle. Lots of people come together to encourage and care for each other and make a happy place. Theo: Yea. I love coming to church. I always feel happy here. LL: We are all happy you are here, Theo. Theo: I want to give you my puzzle piece. Maybe you can tell the Bible Story and finish the picture. (Help Theo place the puzzle piece on the board or wall with tape). LL: Ok boys and girls. Do you think you will be able to listen to the story and help Theo and I put the puzzle together? LL: Great! Let s begin. Last week we learned that we should tell the world about Jesus. This week s Bible story tells us God helps us to good things for others. Now, I have a few puzzle pieces that I will tape to the wall. During our story, I will call friends sitting nicely to help me stick these puzzle pieces to Theo s piece to make a picture. (Tape all puzzle pieces on the wall or board, low enough for children to reach). Now I am going to tell you a story about what Jesus friends did after he went back to heaven. After Jesus went to heaven, his friends got busy. They had such wonderful news to share with Bible Bookmarked to Acts 2 *Theo Puppet * Early Encouragers Puzzle

everyone. They went to church everyday. No one made them go to church- they just wanted to go. They wanted to learn as much as they could about Jesus. And they asked God to help them do good tings. (Ask a child sitting nicely to come up and find the puzzle piece of the people walking into church. Attach that piece to Theo s.) The people got together as often as they could. They broke bread and shared it like Jesus taught the to do. (Ask a child sitting nicely to come up and find the puzzle piece of the people eating together. Attach that piece to puzzle.) Such amazing miracles happened. A man who could not walk got well, and walk! Many sick people got better. This made the people so happy and excited! (Ask a child sitting nicely to come up and find the puzzle piece of the man being healed. Attach that piece to Theo s.) God helped them do good things for others, such as sewing clothes and helping others fix houses. (Ask a child sitting nicely to come up and find the puzzle piece of the women sewing and men fixing the house. Attach that piece to Theo s.) The people came together and made each other feel happy. They brought their friends and family, saying,, Come and hear this good news yourself! (Ask a child sitting nicely to come up and find the puzzle piece of the people laughing. Attach that piece to Theo s.) The people sold things in their homes and gave money to people who didn t have enough. (Ask a child sitting nicely to come up and find the puzzle piece of the woman selling things. Attach that piece to Theo s.) They were glad to praise God. God helped them do so many good things for others, everyday new people came to believe in Jesus! All of the good things these people did fit together to make one great picture! Theo: Wow! God sure does help us do good things for others! I am going to help my mom when I get home by cleaning my room without being asked. I can do good things for my brother too. He is sick and I can make him a card to make him feel better. LL: Those are great ideas Theo! Good luck and remember that God will help you do good things for others! Theo: Ok! Bye everyone! Circle Time 10-15 min Let the kids say goodbye to Theo and then dismiss classes one at a time to go back to their rooms. Circle Time: Key Verse Activity Bible: Bookmarked to

Have the children form a circle and sit down. Open your Bible to Matthew 18:19-20 Lead the children in singing The B-I-B-L-E. This will be sung each week right before the Key Verse activity. Matthew 18:19-20 *Curriculum CD, track 13 Our Key Verse from the Bible says, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. That means we can teach the world about Jesus. Let s say that together. Lead the children in repeating the age appropriate key verse with you: We can teach the world about Jesus. Jesus isn t just for you and me he s for everyone from everywhere! Jesus wants us to tell everyone the whole world about him. We re going to sing a song about telling the whole world about Jesus. I have a picture of Jesus that each of you will get to take to a class friend. You will tell your friend about Jesus as we sing. Have the children stand in a large circle as they sing. Choose one child to take the picture of Jesus to a friend in the circle and show it to him or her. Let that child take Jesus to another child. Continue having the children share Jesus with everyone until everyone has had a turn to bring Jesus to a friend, re-cuing the CD if you have a large class. Play Go Tell on the CD (Track 13). Encourage children to join in when they learn the words, singing to the tune of When the Saints Go Marching In. Go tell the world That Jesus cares, That Jesus died and rose again. Don t be afraid.cause he is with you. So go tell the world today. After the game, have children return to the circle and sit down. You just showed each other Jesus. Another way we can show each other Jesus is by talking about him and telling people about the wonderful things he does. Who did you tell about Jesus? (Let kids answer) What can you tell people about Jesus? (Jesus is God; Jesus loves us; Jesus died for us.) Jesus wants us to teach other people about him. Let s tell everyone about Jesus!

Materials Worksheet 1 per child (printed on heavier legal size paper) Crayons Scissors Ziplock Bag 1 per child Snack *Can be a center if you prefer 10 minut es Closing 10 Minut es Snack Prepare the snack for the children. Take time to stop and pray before the children eat. This is also a good time to ask children if they need to go to the restroom. Start clean up time with the clean up song: Say, I Am! (tune of If You re Happy and You Know it ) If you are cleaning up, say, I am. If you are cleaning up, say, I am. If you are cleaning up, If you are cleaning up, If you are cleaning up, say, I am. Gold Fish Crackers Water/Cups Paper Towels/Napkin s Gather everyone for closing at your classrooms circle. Bring your center project to circle. LL: Who were the people in our story today? What did they do for God? Have each child hold up their puzzle. When we put together our puzzle, we can remember that God helps us do good things for others. We can tell the world about Jesus and his love.

Let s pray together. Dear God, Thank you for giving us Jesus. Thank you for helping us do good things for others. Amen.
