United Methodist Church of Antioch Twenty-second Sunday in Kingdomtide October 21, 2018 8:00 & 10:30 am GATHERING The mission of the United Methodist Church of Antioch is to grow in faith; to worship God following the teachings of Jesus Christ, and to be instruments of God s love through the Holy Spirit as we reach out to our community and the world. PRELUDE ANNOUNCEMENTS/MISSION STATEMENT *SONG OF CELEBRATION # 368 My Hope Is Built *WE ARE WELCOMED TO WORSHIP Leader: We will go, Lord, into the world, telling and living the story with other believers. We will go taking the Gospel and making disciples among all the people with whom we come in contact. We will go, knowing You will be with us. People: But we know the barriers that stand in our way. Leader: We cannot pour ourselves out to you fully as individuals with unconfessed sins in our lives People: We cannot pour ourselves out to you fully as your body when we are in conflict with others. Leader: Our conflicts often come from not loving our neighbor as ourselves. All: Hear our confession, forgive and deliver us, and give us courage to offer your peace to one another here, in the community, and in the world. *OPENING PRAYER Lord, you are the power we seek when we can t find it in ourselves. Make your presence known to us this morning. In your gentleness, guide us. In Your humility, strip our selfish pride which only destroys us. In Your greatness, inspire us to do greater things. As a Shepherd, call us to be servants. As King, demand 100% of us. We ask for this empowerment as we come to worship here today. Bless us to embed this power that we are strengthened to not forget when we leave. Amen. CHILDRENS TIME

HYMN In Christ Alone In Christ alone, my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all, here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied; for every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay, light of the world by darkness slain. Then bursting forth in glorious day, up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, sins curse has lost its grip on me; for I am His and He is mine, bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the pow r of Christ in me. From life s first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow r of hell, no scheme of man, can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home, here in the pow r of Christ I ll stand. Keith Getty and Stuart Townend 2001 Thankyou Music CCLI #11352076 MORNING PRAYERS Silent Prayer Pastoral Prayer The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. OFFERTORY *DOXOLOGY *PRAYER OF DEDICATION Generous Father, we thank you for all that you have given us. You have also given us a share in the work that you are doing in the world. We humbly accept your gifts and welcome the challenges you place before us. This is a small part of that challenge. Take this offering and use as you will, Amen. SPECIAL MUSIC 10:30am For the Beauty of the Earth Chancel Choir

GROWING WE PREPARE TO HEAR GOD S WORD Gracious God, we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that you have sent through the ages. Make us hungry for these words, that they will nourish and strengthen us to follow the path you have set before us. Help us use what they teach us to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Amen. WE HEAR THE GOOD NEWS Job 38: 1-7; Mark 10: 35-45 L: The Word of God for the people of God. P: Thanks be to God. REFLECTION Offer Christ Laity Team GOING **CLOSING HYMN # 419 I Am Thine, O Lord **BENEDICTION L: May we go now into the world to live and work and serve.
