FYI: 31 st Sunday in Ordinary Time October 30, 2016 The Readings for this weekend reminds us of the dependence of the entire universe on the grace and will of God. As human beings we are called to recognize God as Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier. This is motivated by two qualities: justice and love. Christianity is the only religion that teaches that God wants an intimate and personal relationship with each and every one of us. So special is each human being that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity divested Himself of the trappings of divinity to become like us in all things but sin. God as Abba wants to embrace us and care for us. On our part, do we accept His embrace? The beautiful story in today s Gospel of Zacchaeus clearly illustrates the singling out of an individual for a relationship with God. Zacchaeus had several strikes against him. He was a tax collector. In other words, an enemy of the people. He served the Roman Empire. He was considered by many a traitor. He was wealthy. His status as a wealthy man was seen as an affront to the Jewish people. Many believed he became wealthy because he was corrupt, taking bribes, extorting the people to gain a life of privilege. Finally, he was short. In Jesus time, people who were short in stature were believed to be thieves and robbers. Some even considered short people to be in league with demons! Zaccchaeus and Jesus have an encounter that surprises and in some cases scandalizes those in attendance. Not only does Jesus acknowledge Zacchaeus presence, He invites himself to his home. Zacchaeus has guts and stands his ground against his detractors. Jesus in turn, recognizes him as a child of Abraham, and worthy of salvation. May all of us have the courage to accept the gift of salvation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all Parishioners and Friends for the outpouring of affection and support that was given to Friars Germain, Richard, Sam, Gabriel and myself last weekend when we celebrated Priesthood Sunday. I would like to thank Sister Mary Joan and her committee who organized the tribute. I would also like to thank Veronica Comrie and her committee who organized the luncheon and concert last Sunday. It was wonderful and I m sure I m echoing Fr. Germain when I say, a wonderful time was had by all. Also, I would like to thank Msgr. Tom Skindeleski, the pastor of St. Vincent Ferrer Parish and state Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus who preached at all Masses last Sunday on behalf of the Knights. I always enjoy listening to Fr. Tom preach. I would also like to thank Vic Coppola and the Knights of Columbus for organizing the Halloween Hop which took place Saturday evening. It was great fun! Sunday afternoon (Oct. 30 th ) we will be having our 2 nd Annual Trunk or Treat from 4:30 p.m. 7:00 p.m. in the church parking lot. All are invited! Finally, Tuesday, November 1 st, is the Solemnity of All Saints and a holyday of obligation. Masses will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on the Vigil (Oct. 31 st.) and on Tuesday, November 1 st at 8:00 a.m.; 12 Noon and 7:30 p.m. (Spanish) Following the 8:00 a.m. Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be enthroned in the Chapel for adoration. The Intention is in reparation for all sins against the Blessed Sacrament. The Eucharist will be reposed just before the Noon Mass. Wednesday, November 2 nd is the Commemoration of All Souls. Envelopes are available in the narthex and at the side entrances to enroll your deceased loved ones for remembrance during the month of November. Brothers and Sisters, while we have time, let us do good. Fr.

WE REMEMBER MONTH Once again, your parish Bereavement Ministers will be providing a special way for remembering your loved ones who have passed on to eternal life. One of the ways is by hanging banners in the narthex containing all the names of those deceased whose funeral Masses were celebrated during this past year (from November 1, 2015 October 31, 2016). Another is the opportunity of having on display in the narthex a small or medium sized photo of your loved one whom you would like to have remembered during the entire month of November; this may be a significant person who entered eternity years ago. Please place your loved ones name, your relationship, and telephone number on the back of the frame. Please leave it on the counter in the ministry room (opposite the priests vesting room). You will be asked to pick up your photo at the end of November. ALTAR SERVER TRAINING; for both current Altar Servers and those who would like to serve on the Altar: You must attend 3 sessions with Father Gabriel; choose one session in November, one in December & one in January. You can attend either a Wednesday Night or a Saturday morning session. Please see dates below. Registration forms will go home with students. This is mandatory for all who wish to Altar Serve. DO YOU THINK GOD IS CALLING YOU TO THE PRIESTHOOD? If you are a junior in High School or older, come join other men who are looking to answer that question. November 11 13 at St. John Vianney Seminary in Miami is hosting a weekend to experience what life is like at the seminary and to answer any questions you may have. Transportation will be provided. If you need more information on the weekend contact the Office of Vocations at 561-775-9552, or vocations@diocesepb.org. Wed. Nov. 16th 6:30pm 8:00pm or Sat. Nov. 19th 2:00pm 3:30pm Wed. We would like you to know how much we appreciate and depend on your added support during your visit. For your convenience, envelopes are available in the Narthex. Thank you for your generosity.
