General News SPECIAL PRAYER CAMPAIGN FOR THE CHURCH #PrayForTheChurch The Holy Father has asked Worldwide Prayer Network to help all the faithful to pray more intensely for the Church this October. He invites us to pray every day the Holy Rosary with the intention that the Virgin Mary help the Church in these times of crisis, and to pray each day to St. Michael the Archangel that he defend us against the attacks of the Devil. According to spiritual tradition, Michael is the chief of the celestial armies and the protector of the Church (Revelation 12:7-9). Pope Francis invites us at the conclusion of the Rosary with that most ancient invocation to the Holy Mother of God, Sub Tuum Praesidium as well as the traditional prayer to St. Michael ascribed to Pope Leo the XIII. With this invitation, Pope Francis gives us a key to interpreting the current situation: the spiritual combat. A special campaign has been launched to respond to the Pope s request and support all those who want to make known this call. The Official website: www.prayforthechurch.org UNDER YOUR PROTECTION We fly to Thy protection, O holy Mother of God; Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen. ST MICHAEL PRAYER St Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defence against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. WORLD MISSION SUNDAY Today is World Mission Sunday. This is your chance to support missionaries and our Church in proclaiming the Gospel of hope to those who suffer around the world. By supporting Missio, the Pope s official charity for overseas mission, you will be sharing the love of Christ with all people by helping everyone in need, regardless of background or belief. Today, your prayers and donations will help build a future of hope both in Ethiopia and around the world. Please give what you can, and if possible, please use the Missio Gift Aid envelopes if you are a taxpayer. Thank you OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD This is an invitation to each of you to join us with the shoe boxes this year and enable a child to receive a gift probably for the first time in their life. From now until November 9th parishioners of St George's can hand their donations into the presbytery clearly marked for the children's shoe boxes. Our Lady's parishioners can hand theirs in to Our Lady Queen of Peace School. You can fill your own box or hand in gifts to go towards a box. This Autumn, take time out of your everyday life to explore Scripture and Church teaching together and be inspired by one another and CAFOD s campaigning and work overseas. CAFOD s retreats are free of charge and all are welcome, whether or not you have been involved in CAFOD s campaigns. Come to a CAFOD retreat near you. For further information go to www.cafod.org.uk/events News CHURCH HEATING UPDATE Many, many thanks to all who have donated so generously to the replacement of the church boilers. A staggering 37,702 has been raised so far. It was projected that the cost of replacing the boilers and upgrading the gas main servicing the church would reach in excess of 50,000. However, a compromise was reached whereby one large capacity boiler has been fitted thus negating the need for the expensive upgrade to the gas main. In addition, the existing blow heaters in the church have been refurbished rather than replaced. It is anticipated that this will be sufficient for our needs and, so far, all appears to be working well. The costs incurred from this work are just under 10,000 which means there is 27,702 remaining. This will be used for refurbishment of the boiler room and many other essential maintenance projects in the church identified by the Quinquennial report. ST GEORGE S PARISH HALL Many thanks to all those who attended the meeting about the hall last Tuesday. There will be a follow up meeting on Tuesday, 23 rd October at 7.00pm in the parish hall.
