Dedication and Acknowledgement This set of teachings is a compilation of materials from over many years. I will never forget the first time Michal Ann and I encountered the ministry of Bob Jones! Life has never been the same since. We were wonderfully impacted through our involvement in the early years of Metro Christian Fellowship also by the team teachings of Mike Bickle, Michael Sullivant, David Parker, Paul Cain, David Ravenhill, and John Paul Jackson and others. Vintage materials came forth at that time. Years later I was honored to walk with and be impacted by other diverse tribes in the prophetic such as Cindy Jacobs, John Sanford, Bill Hamon, Beth Alves, Gwen Shaw, Jill Austin, Chuck Pierce, Larry Randolph, Mickey Robinson, Rick Joyner, Patricia King, Bobby Connor and many other fathers and mothers in the faith. I eventually learned that prophets are just like pastors no two are just alike! We are each unique in Christ! Thank you, Lord, for these lives and the price they paid for pioneering! With Blessings! Preface: The Prophetic Spirit I am firmly convinced that the recent prophetic empowering is intended for the many for the rank and file ordinary members of the Body of Christ, not just the few the prophetic superstars that have so arrested our attention in recent years. Successive waves of God s Spirit will continue to unfold until Christ s Church has been saturated with the spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him (Eph. 1:17). Our Father God will not let up until His people are filled with the revelation of the loveliness of His Son. Sound inviting? It is! It s for you! You see, this revelatory activity is for the many not the few! It s for you. Just cry out, More Lord. Right here. Right now! Moses came into this understanding in his day. The pressures on this anointed man were tremendous as he tried to lead his complaining people into God s promise land. His cry to the Lord is found in Numbers 11:14, I alone am not able to carry all this people, because it is too burdensome for me. But God had a solution to Moses dilemma. Gather for Me seventy men from the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and their officers and bring them to the tent of meeting and let them take their stand there with you. Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take of the Spirit who is upon you, and will put Him upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you shall not bear it all alone. (Num. 11:16-17). So Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord. He gathered the seventy elders and stationed them around the tent. Then the Lord came down in the cloud and He took of the Spirit who was upon Moses and placed Him upon the seventy elders. Verse 25 tells us, and it came about that when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do it again. What a beautiful depiction, yet what an unfulfilling outcome! With a stroke of the Master s hand, the prophetic presence that rested upon Moses was distributed among the seventy and they prophesied, but they did not do it again. Thank God this was not the final word! Two men remained in the camp, Medad and Eldad. They did not show up at the right place at the right time. Nonetheless, the Spirit came upon them as it did upon the elders, and they released the Spirit in the camp. As I envision this scene, I see two desperate warriors, so hungry for the Lord s anointing that their heart cry to a compassionate God was Give me all you ve got! More Lord! God answered their plea. There is no indication that Medad and Eldad 9

ever quit doing the stuff. Perhaps they went wildly through camp laying hands on people and declaring God s mighty Word. Maybe it seemed a little unusual and out of order. Then a young man ran and told Moses, Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp! (v.27) Joshua also got into the act and added, Moses, my lord, restrain them! (v. 28) Isn t this reaction similar to those who through the ages have wanted to control the activity of the Spirit? But Moses said to him, Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord s people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them. (Num. 11:29) God s heart is revealed through Moses answer. The prophetic spirit is for the many, not the few. The seventy elders at the tent prophesied only once. God s yearning is for a generation of faceless people to arise with a continuous abiding of His prophetic presence. Centuries later the prophet Joel picked up God s trumpet and declared that in the last days God would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh (Joel 2:28). Peter, on the day of Pentecost, grabbed the baton from Joel and proclaimed, Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream dreams. (Acts 2:17) Can t you see, the prophetic spirit is for the many not the few! Let the hunger of your heart reach out, as well, and lift your desperate cry to Him: Father, pour out Your Spirit upon the Body of Your Son to such a degree that we will be propelled beyond the tent of meeting into the marketplace of our day as You did with Medad and Eldad. Release the abundance of the spirit of wisdom and revelation and enable Your many people to give the testimony of Jesus through the Spirit of prophecy. O Lord, for we see that this place of intimate passion is for the many, not the few! We lift a cry along with a multitude of others across the globe, More! Send more, Lord! Right here. Right now! Ultimately, that is what this study guide: Prophetic Foundations is all about capturing the heart of Jesus and speaking forth His thoughts with the purpose of grounding you and establishing you with a firm Biblical foundation. This study guide is the first in the series called the Chamber of Revelation: Equipping in the Prophetic Enlisting a Prophetic Army. My desire is for the student (that is you) to go through these materials first before proceeding on into the deeper waters of revelatory activity that my additional guides provide. 10

The first study guide is broken down into three sections: Prophetic Foundations, Prophetic Equipment and Prophetic Expressions. Each section builds on top of the previous one. For your aid, there are reflective questions at the end of each lesson with the corresponding answers at the back of the manual. May the Lord s blessing be with you and may He lay a firm foundation of the testimony of Jesus in your life! Blessings to you! James W. Goll 11

Section One: Prophetic Foundations

Prophetic Foundations Lesson One: For the Many and Not the Few Lesson One: For the Many and Not the Few I. THE PRIEST AND THE PROPHET A. Old Testament The prophetic and priest are two separate offices, functions, and people set a part as ministers to and for the Lord. 1. The priest represented the people to God. 2. The prophet represented God to the people. B. New Testament View A Priesthood of Believers I Peter 2:9 There was a Protestant Reformation in Church history, from 1400-1700 A.D, which was used to restore this basic truth to the people of God. Each person of God is a priest before His Lord Jesus Christ. This deals with the people s access to God. Today we are in the midst of a Prophetic Reformation. This too is monumental and deals with the foundational truths that God has and wants access to His people. God s voice shall be heard again in the earth! I Corinthians 14:1-5 (emphasis mine): 1. Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy (v. 1). Desire is a deep-seated craving. Earnestly is to hotly pursue, not to be open to. 2. For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries (v. 2). 3. But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation (v. 3). 4. One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church (v. 4). 5. Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying (v. 5). C. Prophecy Definitions. 1. Hebrew: to flow forth; to bubble forth like a fountain; to spring forth. 15

Prophetic Foundations Lesson One: For the Many and Not the Few 2. Greek: to speak for another; speaking for the mind and counsel of God. 3. Supernatural ability to hear the voice of God. It is the voice of Christ speaking in His Church. II. FOR THE MANY THE PROMISE DECLARED A. The Control Spirit The Dilemma 1. While on a retreat in Nashville, Tennessee I had eight dreams in one night about the control spirit. The basic message was that there are two enemies of the prophetic fear and unbelief. Let us face these enemies of God s ways and be cleansed from them in Jesus Name. 2. A word came to a friend of mine, Mark Elliott, My ways are inscrutable. They are beyond understanding. For if they were not, they would be surrendered to man s mind, and if to man s mind, then ultimately to man s control. While we are to study to show ourselves approved and renew our minds through the mediation of God s Word, we ultimately want His Spirit in union with our spirit to rule our lives. B. A Prayer Group Experience Revelations 2:6 Yet this you do have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. This was a message to the church of Ephesus. Commentators say that the Nicolaitans promoted the separation of leadership and laity. This creates a division of who can do the works of Christ. C. God s Ways Numbers 11:16-17, 24-29 Lessons from the life of Moses and the prophetic spirit being distributed. (Read the preface of this study guide after reading the above scriptures for greater detail.) May a generation of hungry Medad and Eldad s arise and go forth with the prophetic presence resting upon their lives. D. Joel 2:28-29 And it will come about after this that I will pour out My Spirit on... 1. All mankind; 2. And your sons and daughters will prophesy, 3. Your old men will dream dreams, 4. Your young men will see visions. 5. And even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. 18

Prophetic Foundations Lesson One: For the Many and Not the Few E. Acts 2:16-19: 1. This is that:... this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel: And it shall be in the last days, God says, That I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all mankind; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; even upon My bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit and they shall prophesy... 2. The result:...that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (v. 21). 3. The promise: For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself (v. 39). F. A Prophetic Generation A Prophetic Church Let s not be satisfied with a few powerfully anointed prophetic pioneers being released in this hour. Their primary job is to open the way, equip the saints, so that the rank and file everyday believer would arise and inherit their prophetic birthright. III. THE SEVEN-FOLD SPIRIT OF GOD A. Revelation 1:4...Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne. B. Revelation 5:6 And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth. C. Isaiah 11:2-3: 1. And the Spirit of the Lord will rest upon Him, 2. The spirit of wisdom 3. And understanding, 4. The spirit of counsel 5. And strength, 6. The spirit of knowledge 7. And the fear of the Lord. 17

Prophetic Foundations Lesson One: For the Many and Not the Few God s Purpose: The Lord wants to release the fullness of His Seven-Fold Spirit to enable each believer (priest) in Christ to be sent forth like Medad and Eldad into all the earth fully equipped with the prophetic presence. IV. THE PROPHETIC Revelation 19:10 For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. The spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus. Our lovely Lord Jesus is the greatest prophet of all time. He is our model and example. Let us be filled with holy passion for the Son of God. Let a generation of zealous men and women come forth releasing the fragrance of Jesus the heart or spirit of the prophetic wherever they go. Remember, the prophetic graces are not for the elite few. They are for the many! That means even you! 18
