Bugs Bunny Have I made wrong choice? We all know what it feels like to ask yourself this question. Wher you re secondguessing a job you took, a relationship you find yourself in middle of, or what you ordered for lunch, you know sensation of having sinking feeling that you might have made a mistake. Being a disciple of Jesus is no different. The Gospel of Luke was written to a man named Theophilus. We don't know a lot of details about Theophilus, but he appears to be a Christian who is having second thoughts about life of discipleship he has embarked upon. This is how Luke addresses him in book s beginning: [I ve written this for you], Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning things you have been taught. Apparently, Theophilus is questioning his decision to become a Christian. Living in a culture that is marked by ruthless power politics, a relatively weak often hidden church, an almost incessant questioning dismissal of Christian faith, it is easy to envision Theophilus asking questions like: Is this Jesus story really true? Is God really faithful to his promises? What does true discipleship look like? Luke went to great lengths researching crafting his gospel to answer questions like se. He wrote it so that people like Theophilus, us, might have confidence that God is at work in world in our lives through Jesus Christ. To be a disciple of Jesus is to be on right path path of salvation, which to Luke his original audience meant healing or wholeness. So, wher you re a new Christian, a seasoned saint, or someone investigating Jesus for first time, Luke is a great book for you to dive into. Let us worship. REFLECTION QUOTES The vast majority of us go to our graves without knowing who we are. We unconsciously live someone else life, or at least someone else s expectations for us. This does violence to ourselves, our relationship with God, ultimately ors. Peter Scazzero, Emotionally Healthy Spirituality I could never myself believe in God, if it were not for cross. The only God I believe in is One Nietzsche ridiculed as God on cross. In real world of pain, how could one worship a God who was immune to it? John Stott, The Cross of Christ

TWENTYTHIRD SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP Daniel 7:131 Seated Sting Text in bold is read toger by entire congregation. Plain text is read by one of worship service leaders The small symbols you will see throughout se pages correspond to a "Key to Liturgy". Our worship begins each week with a call to worship. We are gared here today because God, our Creator, desires to have a relationship with us. Wher we realize it or not, he is one calling us to himself today every day. Frederick Hedge Martin Lur Lord Sabaoth" (sabeeawth) means "Lord of hosts" comes from transliteration of Hebrew word tsebha'oth, meaning "hosts" or "armies". I saw in night visions, behold, with clouds of heaven re came one like a son of man, he came to Ancient of Days was presented before him. LECTIO SACRA John 2:2325 Seated Now when he was in Jerusalem at Passover Feast, many believed in his name when y saw signs that he was doing. But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to m, because he knew all people needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man. This is Word of Lord! Thanks be to God! Lectio Sacra means sacred reading. It has been practice of church for thouss of years to have portions of bible read during worship services. The assumption behind this practice is that we are people who need to be shaped by all of God s word. INTERLUDE CONFESSION OF SIN From The Worship Sourcebook Sting O God, you have shown us way of life through your Son, Jesus Christ. We confess with shame our slowness to learn of him, our failure to follow him, our reluctance to bear cross. Have mercy on us, Lord, forgive us. Confession of sin happens within context of relationship, both with God each or. We confess toger, in community, before a gracious God who has given us himself. Confession both acknowledges our need for mercy celebrates its abundance in Christ. We confess poverty of our worship, our neglect of fellowship of means of grace, our hesitating witness for Christ, our evasion of responsibilities in our service, our imperfect stewardship of your gifts. Have mercy on us, Lord, forgive us. Amen. (You are invited to confess your sins silently.) PRAYING THE PSALMS Psalm 16 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to Lord, You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you. As for saints in l, y are excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. The sorrows of those who run after anor god shall multiply; ir drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take ir names on my lips. The Lord is my chosen portion my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. Praying through Psalms each week teaches us how to pray, using prayer book of ancient Israel. As we pray, re will be pauses for reflection. I bless Lord who gives me counsel; in night also my heart instructs me. I have set Lord always before me; because he is at my right h, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me path of life; in your presence re is fullness of joy; at your right h are pleasures forevermore.
