Buffalo United Methodist Church serving people for Jesus Christ so that we all may know joy! November 13, 2016 The Weekly Joy Rev. Bill Reinhart, Pastor Today By Who and How You Serve - Jesus came not to be served, but to serve. As followers of Jesus, we are to follow in his footsteps. At the end of our days, our lives will be measured by our humble service to others. 8:15 Joyful Praise Worship 9:15 Fellowship Coffee Hour 10:30 Traditional Celebration Worship Next Sunday By Who or What You Worship - On Christ the King Sunday, we reflect on the central purpose of our lives: to bring glory to God through our whole hearted devotion. True worship of our King requires surrendering our lives to the power and will of the Holy Spirit. Welcome, Guests! We welcome all guests to worship! If you have questions, ask anyone with a red nametag for information about our church. Prayer Matters Wendy & Brian Fitch ask for continued prayers for their Aunt Diane as she is losing the fight with pancreatic cancer. Gail Hurley s friend, Bettie, has been in the hospital with complications from pneumonia. Oliver Eckenrode underwent some medical tests this past week. Joyce Dietz is recovering much more slowly than hoped, so pray for strength. Pastor Bill continues receiving training with the Missional Church Consultation Initiative (MCCI) and church leaders are preparing the way! Hurricane Matthew Relief The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is responding to the destruction and death caused by Hurricane Matthew by providing emergency supplies, water purification, food distribution and volunteers. Pick up an info sheet in the entryway with the ways you can help. 6:09 Prayer Cards Available Are you praying for the Holy Spirit to come and lead us into the future God desires for us? Pray the 6:09 Prayer or another "breakthrough" prayer daily! Pick up your card in the entryway if you missed getting one earlier. If you are interested please contact the church office. Unidos en Cristo Fall Retreats Unidos en Cristo (aka Cursillo) is a three-day ecumenical retreat encounter with God s grace designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people. Many from our church have attended and encourage you to as well! Upcoming Fall Unidos en Cristo weekends: Men: October 13-16 Women: October 20-23 at Brooklyn UMC, Brooklyn Center To learn more, talk with Darla O Flanagan, Gail Hurley or someone else who has attended, pick up a brochure, borrow the DVD available at church, or visit the website at www.unidosencristo.com. Worship Tech Help Sought Help with lyric and PowerPoint projection during worship! It s really SO easy! Our software is even called Easy Worship, so training takes almost no time at all! Please see Jana Knutson or Laurie Schroeder if willing. [print every first Sunday] Communion in the Home If you know someone who is homebound and missing Holy Communion today, please contact the office and we ll schedule a home visit in which Communion is shared. Do you believe that God answers prayer? That s one of the questions our team was asked at the Breakthrough Prayer workshop. Then we were told to celebrate answered prayers. So this September, as we kick-off our

congregation s breakthrough prayer initiative more deeply, we want to lift up and celebrate your answered prayers! Watch for more details coming soon, but start paying attention and jotting down those prayers of yours that have been answered. And remember, God sometimes answers them in different ways than we expect Frozen Meals Available There are now turkey pot pies and chicken soup (gluten-free) in the freezer to take to people who could use some help with a meal. Please let the church office know when you deliver one. BUMPreschool Openings Please help spread the word about our fabulous preschool! Our goal is to fill as many spots as possible this year so we can sustain this ministry. We feature several things that not all area preschools have a phy ed component, a Parent Aware star rating, tuition scholarships, and coming soon a fabulous new playground!! Love INC Liaison Sought Sandy Tool is stepping down as our church s liaison to the Love INC board. If you would consider taking on this role, please see Laurie. The board meets monthly on the third Monday at 7:00 pm. Love INC Thrift Store Opening Love INC-Big Woods is opening a thrift store in Maple Lake. To donate items to sell, or to volunteer with building preparations or after it s open, please call 763-682-2550. Blankets for Beds There is a steady need for blankets, so please bring your donations of new and gently used blankets of any size for local distribution. Place them in the box across from the church office. Prayer Initiative and MCCI Underway Please remember to continue to pray for God to break through anything that keeps us (individually and as a church) from fully releasing our lives to the work of the Holy Spirit to accomplish the mission Christ gave us to make disciples and transform the world. Pastor Bill just had his first clergy cohort coaching event last week, so BUMC will soon kick off the next phase of the MCCI (Missional Church Consultation Initiative - we know, that name is a confusing mouthful!) All it means is that we are entering into a season of coaching and conversation with each other and some church consultants on what it will look like for us to grow from good to great in our missional effectiveness. You ll be hearing more about the MCCI in the weeks ahead. [Publish every first Sunday] Collect for BUMPreschool We continue to collect caps and bag tops, (or oval from donut glazers) from Kwik Trip, and Labels for Learning from Coborns! Bring them to the red bucket across from the church office. CrossTraining Next Sunday at 9:20 On Sunday, October 2 we ll have our first CrossTraining session of the year. This multi-generation session of youth and adults takes place in the back of the fellowship hall between services from 9:20-10:20. All are welcome! This time, Gerry and Jill Starr will share some highlights and experiences from their trip to Kenya, Africa where they visited their daughter Rachel and family. Mark works for Samaritan s Purse as an airplane mechanic servicing the planes that fly in and out of eastern Africa providing relief work and supplies to that area of Africa. Samaritan s Purse is the parent organization of Operation Christmas Child, so Mark is often servicing those planes as they fly into the area. They will also bring greetings from Grace Baptist Church, whom our church raised money for during the last Lenten Meals. Parkview Service Today Pastor Bill would love to have you join him today as he leads worship at Parkview Chapel at 2:00 pm. Let him know if you can join him!
