Joseph B. Cavallaro Council # 4884 Knights of Columbus March 2009 James C. LaSalle Sr., Grand Knight PGK Bob Vezzuso, Editor Grand Knight s Message My Brother Knights As we finalize plans for our 49th annual affair(please see details in the this newsletter) the 50th Anniversary Committee is making preparations for our year long celebration culminating with the Golden Anniversary Dinner and Dance. The calendar of events will be printed in an upcoming issue of our newsletter so that each of you will have the opportunity to participate in as many activities as you would can. The one activity that you absolutely do not want to miss is Golden Jubilee Dinner and Dance. Everyone who can be there will be there. Don't miss out on a chance to see the "old boys" again and relive the days of old. Frankly, there is no excuse. If you need transportation, we will make it available. If you can't afford transportation, we will make it affordable. Don't worry, be happy. Just come! We can't wait to see you! Start to plan for a great time. You have a whole year to rest up, save up and get out of the house. You'll have a great time. Fraternally James C. LaSalle, Sr., GK Council Officers Msgr. David L. The Council / Club donated the old TV, which works well, to a man connected to the HeartShare Organization. He goes by the initials R.D. and is confined to a wheelchair. He has been a resident in the houses sponsored by HeartShare and just recently, R.D. decided to try living on his own; however he started his new apartment with nothing. His family is financially limited, his parents are deceased, and his only brother is severely autistic. Timing is everything. We called HeartShare and asked if anyone could use a good used TV and bingo! We hit the jackpot! R.D. was just preparing to move. Thanks to Bob Vezzuso & Mike Petolino, who delivered the TV right to R.D. s apartment on Saturday 2/21, He is able to watch his favorite TV & Cable shows. Page 2 of 12

Our Council has planned events every month starting in April of 2009 right through May 2010. The themes of these events are based on the four principles of our Order; Charity, Unity, Fraternity & Patriotism. Please keep in mind that the celebration is a year long program with special events along the way. It is not designed for just the active members, but rather designed for all our membership to participate in. We want you with us during these special events. Please try to support them. We can, and are willing to cater to your special needs in order for you to attend any function; just call us! The included calendar should be kept by you for future references, and check it each month for changes in dates. Each month you receive a bulletin, the calendar will reflect any new changes.

Our first major event will be hosting a 1st. Degree in Honor of the Charter Members of Our Council. Certificates will be given out to the new members taking the 1st. degree and will have all the Charter Members names printed on the certificate. It would be an Honor for these new members to actually meet those men who were adventurous to form our Council. If you are a Charter Member, please make every effort to join us for the Degree. If you have difficulty getting to us, please let us know and we will make arrangements for you to come and be taken home. Another major event will be held on September 18, 2009 ( note the date change ) a visit to Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington DC. This trip will be an overnight and limited; ( only 7 people can visit the wounded soldiers from any organization ) I am happy, and at the same time sad to say that there are no more vacancy s available. All 7 slots have been filled for the trip. The Council will provide gifts for the veteran patients we visit. The actual Dinner & Dance is scheduled for May 2010 and a confirmed date will follow. The affair is going to be held on a SUNDAY in the AFTERNOON to make it more available to our senior members. This affair is promised to be truly an affair to remember. Making it even better requires YOUR attendance. Please make plans to attend, watch future bulletins for important information regarding tickets, transportation, discounts and more. We are trying everything to make it easy for you to celebrate with us, take advantage of what we can offer and have a fabulous time. Call any of the committee men listed and tell us your needs. 50 th Anniversary Celebration Calendar of Events - April 2009 to May 2010 1. Columbiette News Our February social night was a very nice evening. It was our basket night and there were really lovely baskets. Many thanks to all who attended and donated them. Again, dues are in order for 2009 - $15.00. Please see JoAnne Toigo at our MONDAY, MARCH 9th business meeting, or send your check made out to JOSEPH B. CAVALLARO COLUMBIETTES. and mail to JoAnne Toigo, 1305 Avenue O, Brooklyn. NY 11230., Any Columbiette who has not paid dues by March 31st will be automatically suspended, so please send your dues in. On SUNDAY, MARCH 29th, we will have our Memorial Mass for deceased Columbiettes at St. Athanasius Church - 10:00 A.M. Mass. Please try to attend to remember our deceased Sisters. PLEASE NOTE: The last few years we have had breakfast at our Council. However, at this same mass, the Board of District Deputies will be attending - followed by breakfast in St. Athanasius auditorium. Because of this, we thought it best to join our Brother Knights in the auditorium. Cost for full breakfast is $15.00 per person. If you wish to attend, please call Mary Ferlazzo at 718-259-1218 for reservations, or see her at our MONDAY, MARCH 9th business meeting. Our deepest condolences to the family of Rose Srebrenick who passed away suddenly on February 21st. Rose was a faithful and most helpful Sister Columbiette and she will be sorely missed. Continued prayers for Theresa Romersa and Mike Petolino. Prayers also for Vita Gsllese who is presently hospitalized. Hopefully she will be home and well soon. Fraternally, Rachel Barbaro, President More Council News Editor s Note We are in need of advertisers for our newsletter. The money we receive for advertising defrays the cost of publishing it and we are not covering our costs at this time. As a matter of fact, we have not covered our costs for many years and we have lost advertisers over time. The cost for postage alone is almost $50.00 per month. Then there is the cost of printing which also runs about $50.00 a month. Multiply that by 11 issues. That s $1,100 a year. We are collecting $50.00 a year from the 4 remaining advertisers. That s only $200. If you are a member with a business, please consider taking an ad. If you know of any business that would be interested, please talk to them and have them consider taking an ad. Fraternally, PGK Bob Vezzuso, Editor If you have information you would like to have printed in this newsletter, please submit it to me in an e-mail (no attachments please) as you like to see it print at CavallaroCouncil@GMail.com (and please run spell-check, too). It takes me many hours over a course of a few days format and edit this newsletter. It then it takes me many more hours to get it printed and prepared for mailing. It takes you 15 minutes to type an article in an e-mail and send it. For me to type and/or edit information to be published just adds more time and work to my schedule. We are all busy with our personal and professional lives. If we all work together, it makes my job easier in getting this newsletter out in a timely manner.
