St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church 3015 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84093 385-313-9358 7 th Sunday of Luke October 28, 2018 Orthros: 9:00 a.m. Great Doxology: 10:00 a.m. : 10:15 a.m. Reverend Father Anthony Savas Reverend Father Elias Koucos, Retired Reverend Deacon Anatoli Kireiev stannagocutah.org franthony@stannagocutah.org Epistle Reading: St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18 Prokeimenon. Mode Plagal 1. Psalm 11.7,1 You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us. Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed. Brethren, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen. Gospel Reading: The Gospel According to Luke 8:41-56 At that time, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him. And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, Who was it that touched me? When all denied it, Peter said, Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you! But Jesus said, Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me. And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.

While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more. But Jesus on hearing this answered him, Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well. And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping. And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he called, saying, Child, arise. And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened. Resurrectional Apolytikion To the Word, coeternal with the Father and the Spirit, born of the Virgin for our salvation, let us, the faithful, give praise and worship. For He willed to be lifted up on the cross in the flesh, to endure death and raise the dead by His glorious resurrection. (Liturgy Book page 115) Entrance Hymn Come, let us worship and bow down before Christ. Save us, O Son of God, who rose from the dead, save us who sing to You: Alleluia. (Liturgy Book page 37) Hymn for the Church O God-minded Anna, you bore the pure Mother of God, the one who within her conceived the Conceiver of life itself. You were therefore transported to a place now in heaven. Joyful ones all reside there in the home of all gladness, asking for forgiveness for those who honor you, O blessed one. Kontakion O unfailing protection of Christians, and our faithful advocate before the Creator: though we are sinners, do not ignore our entreaty; but in your goodness, grant your timely help to us who appeal to you in faith. Quickly make intercession; on our behalf make speedy supplication, O Theotokos, for you always protect those who honor you. (Liturgy Book page 225) Megalynarion (Hymn for the Theotokos) It is truly right to call you blessed O Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure and the mother, the mother of our God. More hon rable than the cherubim and more glorious beyond compare than the seraphim. In virginity you gave birth to God, to God the word. Truly the Theotokos, we magnify you, we magnify you. (Liturgy Book page 69) Communion Hymn Praise the Lord, praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the highest. (3) (Liturgy Book page 83) After Communion Hymn We have seen the true light; we have received the heav nly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided trinity, the Trinity who has saved us. (Liturgy Book page 87) Dismissal Hymn Lord, grant long life to him who blesses us and sanctifies us. Forms are available at the Narthex and through the church office. Our Coffee vs Cash monthly donation of $10 or $20 per week instead of purchasing a cup of coffee at your favorite coffee shop is still alive and well. You can find directions on how to participate in this opportunity to donate to the capital campaign below: An event will be held in either November or December to inform everyone about the fundraising Golf Tournament which will take place next year. This tournament will be unlike any tournament you have played in before and will be a great way for everyone to participate. If you would like to help with the golf tournament, please contact Perry Drossos. The St. Anna Capital Campaign Ministry Team is also working on some other fun and exciting events for next year to help bring in other donors outside of our church community to help us reach our goal. The Capital Campaign Ministry Team is always available to answer any questions you may have. Please contact us directly or email us at stannacampaign@stannagocutah.org. St Anna Capital Campaign Ministry Team

STEWARDSHIP Your Stewardship Ministry Team, Parish Council and Clergy are thankful for your dedication to the ongoing, well-being of our St. Anna parish. Stewardship, as you well know, is the absolute life-blood of our community s financial health. We do not hold outside fundraisers, pass trays or make seasonal appeals so that we can pay our operational expenses. To God s glory, and to your credit, we sustain primarily through Stewardship and the sustained giving of our contributors. But although our current pledge number of $304,650 exceeds our budgeted amount for Stewardship income, contributions towards those pledges are not quite tracking accordingly. This is common for this time of year, and we are happy to see that the gap between pledges and collections is narrowing. But it still exists. So please, please recall the pledge you made at the beginning of the year and strive to catch up. Honoring our pledge is always important, but now that we are approaching banks to help us acquire the Atrium for our church home, it is imperative that we put our best financial foot forward. To date, we have received 173 Stewardship commitment cards. If you are a contributing member of our St. Anna community and desire to be counted as a Steward of the community (and we pray that you do), please ask Fr. Anthony; a member of the parish council; Stewardship chairman, Peter Yannias; or visit the St. Anna website to fill out a Stewardship Pledge Card even for the remainder of 2018. Having the completed card allows us to maintain an up to date and accurate roster of the parish membership and assists us greatly in preparing and tracking against our annual budgets. And since we are in the process of preparing the 2019 budget for approval at our next Parish Assembly, it is that much more important that we finish this year strongly. Thank you!
