By Mark and Debbi Witt FUNDRAISING 101 Not because I desire a gift, but I desire fruit that may abound to your account. Phiippians 4:17 ANSWERING GOD S CALL You hear the call; God wants you to become a vocational missionary and tell the world about Christ. You know he has called you to make an impact on our world spiritually. There are so many who need to hear the Gospel message... then... The words Support Raising come into play and you panic. You ask yourself, Why does that have to be part of it? Maybe I was wrong God. I can just serve You in other ways... and you end the dream of winning the world to Christ through missions. Support Raising... it gives many pause. Support raising is merely friend raising and it s one of the most exciting adventures you will pursue in your life. God can use anyone and any resources to provide for His work. You are becoming His instrument in challenging others to give to His work. We have written this book to share with you what God thinks about support raising, how He provides, and how it enriches your Christian walk. Answering God s Call Luke 10:1-1 6 I Peter 5:10 Nehemiah 2:1-8 1 Romans 8:28,29 II Corinthians 8:16-21 Psalms 46:10
BLESSINGS Realize God has called you to ministry. If you are married, you need to hear the call jointly. Support raising and missionary service itself will not work if you are not in this together. God doesn t call one without the other. There are many benefits of raising support. It gives you a sense of independence within the team an income while you minister. Support is your income as you minister. Why not give God your full attention to the ministry He s called you to? Your support will come from the King of Kings who owns the cattle on a thousand hills. He will bless you. You will witness miraculous giving as you trust Him. It will show you the blessings of God and His greatness. God will bless you as you raise support and learn to trust Him with every physical need in your life. You will gain a deeper understanding of what it means to totally rely on Him in every aspect of your life as you raise support. It will give you a group of people who will pray for you. One of the greatest attributes of missionary support is the family ties you develop with the folks who give to you. Usually if someone is giving, they are also praying for you. What could be better than to have a base of friends who lift you up to the Lord in prayer as you are on the front lines of ministry? Always remember your support team is your extended family, your congregation. They are the ones who really care about what you re doing and they want to be involved through giving to you. Raising support is not begging for money. Raising support is asking for gifts from people who want to share in reaching people for Christ. Remember the giver is more blessed than the receiver. Acts 20:35 It is more blessed to give than to receive. HOW God has called you to be part of missions and He has asked that you trust Him with support raising. A commitment of a period of time must be made. Set aside time each day for support raising. As you raise support, realize it takes time. We live in a busy world and people often need to be challenged several times before they realize this is something God wants them to do. Set realistic goals. An example would be - If you need $3000 for your trip, try to be at certain levels of support by a certain month. Set goals daily, weekly, and monthly. 2
