MCWS Hosting Candidate Forum Town Hall In the wake of the recent elections our community felt the need to reaffirm that Canton is a safe and inclusive place for all. As such we invited several Canton Township elected representatives to come to an MCWS town hall to discuss our Community's concerns and how to get involved in the activities of Canton Township. The majority of the Canton Township Trustees (Sommer Foster, Anne-Marie Graham-Hudak, John Anthony) attended as did a Canton Library Board representative (Don Turner) and the Canton Township Supervisor (Pat Williams), Treasurer (Dian Slavens), and Clerk (Mike Siegrist). The Plymouth-Canton School Board Chair, Kim Crouch was also present. The general message from most of the representatives was that they understood our community s concerns and many shared their own personal concerns as well but they re-affirmed that, as a Canton community, we would all stand together to keep Canton a welcoming place for all. There was discussion regarding follow-up with the MCWS Board and the Canton executive team to engage in more specific possibilities for involvement. A suggestion to have Canton Trustee office hours at MCWS periodically was accepted positively by the Trustees. Finally some community members challenged the representatives to take their own initiative to engage and involve our community in the general activities of the Township. We have truly been blessed by Allah to be located in a community that values our contributions and the diversity that we bring. In order to build upon this blessing, we should continue to be involved in our library, our schools, and many other volunteer opportunities that may arise. We pray that Allah allows us to be a benefit to those around us in all times. Page 4 of 16

The Storytellers V: Our Community! By: Iffa Kazi On Friday, December 2, the congregants of MCWS gathered to share in a dynamic stimulating night of intergenerational storytelling on what community means to them. Featuring 10 storytellers whose anecdotes ranged from the journey that lead them to joining the fabulous community that is MCWS, to what it was like to develop a tasty treat that is halal, to the role of grandmothers in life, all the way to the official backstory of what really happened when 400 pieces of chicken were lost in the MCWS Kitchen. The warmth and engagement from the community was evident as the audience silently contributed quick funny one-liner tweets that were read throughout the program. The winner for the evening was the fabulous Eamann Al-Azem, who has earned hall of fame status, securing her 3rd win in the series. There are rumors circulating that she was offered Hamilton tickets after reaching this MVP status but my sources were unable to confirm nor deny on if organizers of the event would be honoring the request. When asked, the organizers refused to give a comment and mumbled something on the topic of maybe cookies would be given instead. There are talks of Storytellers VI being scheduled early 2017 but official dates have not been released yet. Stay tuned for more information. Page 5 of 16
