Jesus Heals A Woman s Daughter Grade: Preschool Jesus was traveling neear Tyre and Sidon. A woman from Canaan met him and cried, Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David, and heal my daughter. Jesus did not say anything. His disciples said, Send her away, she will not stop crying and pestering us! Jesus said to her, I was sent only to the people of Israel. She knelt before him and said again, Lord, help me. Jesus said, It is not fair to take what is meant for the children of Israel, and to give it to others. It would be like giving the children s bread to the dogs. The woman said, Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from the master s table. Then Jesus said, O woman, you have great faith. Be it done as you desire. Her daughter was healed at that 1. A woman went to see Jesus. She said, Have mercy on me, O Lord, and heal my daughter. The woman asked Jesus again. Jesus said it would be like giving the children s bread to dogs. The woman said that even the dogs eat. What do the dogs eat when they sit by the table. 5. Finally Jesus told her she had great faith. Did Jesus heal her daughter, or not?

Jesus Heals A Canaanite Woman s Daughter Grades: 3-5 At that time, Jesus went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried, Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely possessed by a demon. But Jesus did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, Send her away, for she is crying after us. yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters table. Then Jesus answered her, O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire. And her daughter was healed at that very Jesus answered, I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. But she came and knelt before him, saying, Lord, help me. And he answered, It is not fair to take the children s bread and throw it to the dogs. She said, Yes, Lord, Call one or your God parents and ask him or her to help you answer the following questions: 1. What is the house of Israel? Who is a part of that household? (Remind them about when you talked about who Abraham and his descendants are.) 2. What would make someone a lost sheep of the house of Israel? 3. Who is a Canaanite? And Is a Canaanite a part of the house of Israel? Now that you know who makes up the house of Israel and who the Canaanites are try to figure out which group Jesus and the woman are referring to in this gospel: 4. Who are the children Jesus is referring to when he speaks to the Canaanite woman? Who are the dogs? 5. What is the food Jesus came to give the children in this story? 6. What do you think the woman s reply means? 7. What do you think this story means for you today?

Who is Abraham and how does one become a descendant of Abraham?) 2. Who would be the lost sheep of the house of Israel? 3. Is a Canaanite a part of the house of Israel? What clues in this text help you figure that out? 4. Who are the children Jesus mentions? Who are the dogs? 5. What is the food Jesus came to give the children in this story? Why would he want to give it to them first? 6. What do you think the woman s reply means? Why do you think her reply displays great faith? 7. Who are we in this story? Why do you say that? 8. What do you think this story s message is to us today?
