FRIENDS OF PRIESTS PRAYER CAMPAIGN October 15th - December 8th All parishioners are invited and encouraged, to sign a pledge to pray 10 Hail Mary s each day of the campaign for all Priests, Deacons, Seminarians, and Consecrated Religious. Pledge sheets are available in the back of church. Please sign your name signifying your pledge. The sheets will be presented in book form to the Archdiocese of St. Louis. TIME TALENT TREASURE We have always known that the many parishioners who volunteer to serve in our various parish organizations and ministries are most valuable. We know that your volunteer time is invaluable. Through the gifts of time and talent that our parishioners so generously share we are able to truly be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ here at All Souls and in the Overland Community. Many thanks to all those faithful and generous stewards who volunteer in our parish! Your time is worth everything to us! GOOD STEWARDSHIP IN ACTION It has been quite some time since articles have appeared in the bulletin updating our parishioners on many aspects of the parish financial life & progress the parish has made in addressing issues of importance. Recently a question was posed by a parishioner inquiring about the status of the St. Joseph Fund, which has been in place since March, 2012. The fund generates monies strictly devoted to building improvements & maintenance. The St. Joseph Fund, in just over 5 years, has accumulated $130,633. Your donations at work have produced: new flooring in the space rented by St. Elizabeth Adult Day Care, replacement of lateral sewer line on school property, replacement of plumbing stacks in the rectory, installation of new toilets & sinks with vanities in three rectory bathrooms; tuck pointing & waterproofing of the church exterior; plastering & painting various areas in the church & rectory, updates to the convent exterior & other smaller improvements. The St. Joseph Fund, as of September 21, has a balance of $55,889, with donations continuing to come in every week. The Adopt-A-Student Fund, another restricted revenue account, assists Catholic school families of our parish needing financial aid for Catholic Elementary School tuition. This fund is currently at $5,482. Another fund made possible by parishioners comes to us through your participation in Beyond Sunday, an Archdiocesan campaign that was completed last summer. You may recall that 40% of the contributed amount by each parish would be returned to the parish. So far, All Souls has received $17,728 in funds generated through Beyond Sunday. Those funds were earmarked for repairs to the bell tower & remodeling of bathrooms in the school & convent. Those projects have not yet begun. And if that was not enough generosity on your part, our parish exceeded its Annual Catholic Appeal goal this year by $2,500! Congratulations to us for reaching our challenge goal of $24,981! AND, you recently donated over $1,000 to the fire fund for a local family & another $4,667 for Hurricane Victim Relief distributed by Catholic Charities. Helping others, whether it be through special collections, contributions to St. Vincent de Paul or the Christian Action Group, or contributing to your parish so that it remains vital, active, & on track with its mission to serve Catholics & the greater community, seems to be a serious priority in our parish. All Souls parishioners do it all, especially when it comes to being good stewards of the blessing God has bestowed upon them. May God always bless you. Susan Shelton ~ Business Manager

OUR LADY OF FATIMA - 100th ANNIVERSARY - OCTOBER 13th What happened on that day Oct. 13, 1917 has come to be known as the Miracle of the Sun, or the day the sun danced. According to various accounts, a crowd of some 70,000 people believers and skeptics alike gathered to see the miracle that Mary had promised. After appearing and speaking to the children for some time, Mary then cast her own light upon the sun. The previously rainy sky cleared up, the clouds dispersed and the ground, which had been wet and muddy from the rain, was dried. A transparent veil came over the sun, making it easy to look at, and multi-colored lights were strewn across the landscape. The sun then began to spin, twirling in the sky, and at one point appeared to veer toward earth before jumping back to its place in the sky. Our Blessed Mother, at Fatima, asked everyone to pray the rosary daily for peace in our world. For our families, our community, and our troubled world, let us heed our Mother s request. VATICAN-APPROVED PILGRIMAGE SITE AT OLD CATHEDRAL Pope Francis granted the opportunity for Catholics to obtain a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, during the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima by making a pilgrimage to Portugal, or by visiting with devotion a statue of Our Lady of Fatima that is solemnly exposed for public veneration. Archbishop Carlson has designated the Basilica of St. Louis, King (the Old Cathedral) and its historic statue of Our Lady of Fatima as a destination for pilgrims in the Archdiocese of St. Louis during the centennial anniversary of the Marian apparitions in Fatima, Portugal that took place May-October 1917. The only remaining date on which Catholics may obtain a plenary indulgence by visiting the statue in the Old Cathedral is Oct., 13th. The Basilica is open M-F, 6:30am-2pm; Sat-Sun.,6:30am -6pm. For Mass times visit: Oldcathedralstl.org. 41st Annual Respect Life Convention Sunday, October 22, 2017 St. Charles Convention Center "Celebrate Life" During October, which is Respect Life Month, the RLA hosts its annual Respect Life Convention. The purpose of the Convention is to provide a forum for Catholics to gather & listen to informative & motivational speakers discuss the dignity & sanctity of human life & the latest efforts to build a Culture of Life.
