ESSENTIAL TESTIMONIES INFORMATION MISSION TRIP TESTIMONIES: DOULOS 3 CG TANJONG BALAI KARIMUN KECHIL OUTREACH KATE LEW My cell member, Lia, has always shared with me about her sister, Risis, who is a Pastor doing God s work in Tanjong Balai, Pulau Karimun Besar and Kechil. Pastor Riris built a house-church in Pulau Karimun Besar to reach out to unsaved local Indonesians. On Dec 10, Doulos 3 members and I visited this house-church and found that externally this building is complete, though more work is needed internally. After this, we quickly boarded ferry to Pulau Karimun Kechil to bless the 20+ families with early Christmas gifts of household provisions, school bags and shoes for children, and a love gift to Pastor Riris. I was amazed that some children wore T-shirts with prints: God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. We had planned to sing this song two months before going there! During our worship, a young mother with her 2 children walked in. It was her first time joining in. We also prayed for four senior ladies seeking healing. It has been a leap of faith for me seeing how God has blessed these families. Despite what they do not have, they are filled with joy and contentment. RAMELIA SIMORANGKIR, AKA LIA Since 2013, it has been my desire to engage Doulos 3 to come alongside to bless the 20+ Christian families living in Tanjong Balai Karimun Kechil. These families are very poor. Through these mission trips, my life has changed both spiritually and mentally as I have tasted the goodness of God. Today, my life is filled with purpose. Doulos 3 members and friends have contributed money to bless these families with household provisions, and schoolbags and shoes for their schoolgoing children. At worship they truly radiate joy; their faith and hope were in God alone. I claim 2 Cor 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. PATRICIA WONG This was my 1st mission trip to Tanjung Balai Karimun Besar and Kechil, Indonesia. I am always fearful of travelling by sea due to seasickness as well as height phobia while climbing up and down the ferries. Thank God I have been able to overcome these. I felt the Lord s presence strongly during worship at Tanjung Balai Karimun Kechil church. I was deeply touched by the Holy Spirit when we sang the first worship song, I Enter The Holy Of Holies, in Bahasa Indonesia. I kept tearing. Four ladies came forward for prayers of healing; they all knelt down humbling and lowering themselves before God. It was an eye opener for me; I am humbled by their actions. The Holy Spirit also helped me bravely shared my testimony to the families, with sister Lia, translating it to Bahasa Indonesia. Despite seeing their poverty, simple life, joy was reflected on the locals faces. Indeed the joy of the LORD is their strength. 10
ANNOUNCEMENTS TESTIMONIES FLORENCE CHAN It was my second trip to Karimun Kechil with Doulos 3. We were warmly welcomed by the 20+ families upon our arrival, and saw so much joy from the young and old folk who had assembled in the dilapidated church. Their happiness and smiles melted my heart. With Pastor Riris leading worship, all sang with their hearts, mind and soul, giving glory to God. We laid hands for some ladies who came forward for healing. It was an unforgettable experience, an eye-opener for those visiting Karimun Kechil for the first time. God can use anyone for His Kingdom expansion. I learnt to step out of my comfort zone. JENNY LAU As one who dislikes going through programmes of repetitive nature, returning to the same place, Tanjong Balai Karimun Kechil, a consecutive third year, for mission work was uncharacteristic of me. However, I was reminded that people and not programmes are what matters to God. Mission work is not a one-time activity we check off our bucket list to show the world that we have been there and done that. In order to see visible impact on the lives we have touched, follow-up on their progress is essential. Return visits to the same place are therefore inevitable. After all, doing our Father s business is no longer about serving my own preferences and passion, but fulfilling His plans and purposes. Only when my heart s posture is right before the Lord will He be satisfied and glorified in my service to Him. SERENE LEE The Tanjong Balai Karimun mission trip was planned six months ago and I was looking forward to it. However, about two weeks before the trip, my mother had a few very bad falls and was rushed to the hospital. The CT scan showed internal bleeding and the X-ray showed hip fracture that would need urgent surgery. Her blood sodium level was dangerously low. This was certainly the devil s doing to derail my plan for the trip. However, our Doulos 3 sisters and Jessie prayed for my mother. Miraculously, her MRI showed no hip fracture and, with treatment, her sodium level returned to near normal just a day before my departure date. We were touched as the ladies who came forward for healing prayers knelt and fully trusted that God will heal them as we laid hands on them. Praise God for He is good all the time. JEANNIE CHAN This being my third visit to Tg Balai Karimun Kechil, it was such a joy to see these families and their children again. They were waiting in the run-down church, welcoming us to worship with them. Despite their poverty, there was no lack of joy and smiles on their faces. God opened my heart for these children. 11
