Time with God s Children *Call to Prayer UMH #334 Sweet, Sweet Spirit Pastoral Prayer The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Recognizing Fathers/Men WE HEAR THE WORD OF GOD Epistle Lesson Ephesians 6:1-4 (NIV) Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother - which is the first commandment with a promise so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. *Hymn UMH #454 Open My Eyes, That I May See *Gospel Luke 15:11-24 (NIV) Jesus continued: There was a man who had two sons. The younger son said to his father, Father give me my share of the estate. So he divided his property between them. Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. (continued)

When he came to his senses, he said, How many of my father s hired serv ants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants. So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his servants, Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found. So they began to celebrate. Sermon The Role of a Father Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Dass Presenting our Gifts and Tithes *Doxology UMH #94 Prayer of Dedication All that we have is yours, O God. What we present for the church s use is no sacrifice. We are privileged to share good news in word and deed. May our common ministry be extended by the time and talents and treasure we invest. Let all things become new as we give our best. Amen. *Hymn UMH #557 Blest Be the Tie That Binds *Benediction *Response UMH #666 Shalom to You Postlude
