THE FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME THE FEAST OF SAINT BLAISE February 3rd, traditionally marks the Feast of Saint Blaise, Bishop and Martyr. St. Blaise enjoyed widespread veneration in the Eastern and Western Churches due to many cures attributed to him. According to tradition, he was Bishop of Sebaste in Armenia and was martyred under Licinius. On this day the Church gives a "Blessing of the Throats" in honor of St. Blaise. From the eighth century he has been invoked on behalf of the sick, especially those afflicted with illnesses of the throat. At St. Paul s, the Blessing of Throats will take place after all the Masses this weekend, February 6 and 7. THE APPLE PIE BAKE-A-THON The Apple Pie Bake-a-thon Pie Sale is this weekend. Buy a pie for your Super Bowl party. Pies are $18.00 each. If consuming a pie breaks a New Year's resolution or personal resolve, please consider purchasing and donating a pie to the Community Lenten Meal program. PAUL S CHOIR SCHOOL FEBRUARY 6/7 SECOND COLLECTION To honor and support the work of our Choir School during Catholic Schools Week, a special second collection will be taken at all Masses this weekend, February 6 and 7. The Paschal Candle, blessed and lit for the first time at the Easter Vigil Service, is a symbol of Christ the Light, and of His victory over darkness and sin. The Paschal candle is lit at every Mass during the Easter Season and at every Baptism and Funeral throughout the year. Ashes will be distributed at all Masses: 8:00 AM 12:10 PM 5:15 PM SPECIAL COLLECTION: ASH WEDNESDAY Church in Africa, Central and Eastern Europe There will be a special collection on Wednesday, February 10, Ash Wednesday, for the Church in Africa, Central and Eastern Europe. THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU WEDNESDAYS OF LENT 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM St. Paul s and all the parishes and chapels of the Archdiocese of Boston will be open for individual confessions starting on Wednesday, February 17, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. LENTEN COMMUNITY LUNCHES Beginning Wednesday, February 17, the Homeless Outreach Committee will sponsor the Annual Wednesday Lenten Community Lunch program which will take place on February 17, 24, March 2, 9, 16 at 12:30pm in the lower church. Contributions of prepared dishes, vegetables, fruits, individual fruit juices and desserts can be left at the parish center no later than 11:00am of the day of the meal. FEBRUARY 7, 2016 CHECK OUT WHAT S HAPPENING AT ST. PAUL S COFFEE HOUR NEW ROOM LOCATION Coffee Hour will take place in Room 202 of the Parish Center. Join us following the 9:30 and 11:00 AM Masses for Coffee and Conversation. FOOD PANTRY The number of people coming to the food pantry is increasing with as many as 70 customers in a single day. Your generosity keeps the pantry stocked and allows customers to choose items that they need. Popular items with limited stock at this time include cereal, oatmeal, crackers, juice, milk (Parmalat or powdered milk), white rice, and peanut butter. Thank you to all who donate food, money, or time to the food pantry. ADULT CONFIRMATION Adult Confirmation for undergraduate students, graduate students, and adults in the community will take place at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Saturday, April 16 at 11:00am. SANCTUARY LAMP The Sanctuary Lamp, which burns for eight days and nights at the tabernacle, symbolizes the presence of Christ and marks the boundaries of holy space in the Church. Trained teachers will present materials to the children from three programs: Talk about Touching (TAT), Keeping Children Safe (KCS), and Created for Love from 3:30-4:00 on Saturdays for four weeks. All teachers and personnel who have access to children are CORI checked, and have completed the VIRTUS program: Protecting God's Children.
