March 25, 2018 3 As you read this message, you have in all probability already received your blessed palm for this year s Holy Week. Please remember to place it and keep it in an honored and visible spot in your home (through Easter). The palm represents the victory of Jesus as our Messiah and King over sin and death. This is symbolically celebrated by commemorating Jesus s entry into Jerusalem and the spontaneous joy of the crowds. Soon however, the mood would change; soon the plotting that would lead to Jesus s death would take place. In fact, on Palm Sunday we read the entire Passion story from the Gospel and the focus soon shifts to His Cross and suffering. The very name of the liturgy becomes clearer - Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. Jesus s earthly triumph in time was short-lived; His heavenly victory which we celebrate at Easter is eternal. Easter now is all about joy in the Lord s resurrection. The palm we hold in our hands now reminds us of the route that we must follow (through Good Friday with its suffering and cross) to that glorious day and with all its excitement and promise. Next Sunday is Food Collec on Sunday Baskets will be available at the doors of the church for your contribu ons. Please help to feed the hungry of the parish.
