ST. MARY S CATHOLIC CHURCH VICTORIA, TEXAS SEPTEMBER 30, 2018 SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2018 TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 1) Numbers 11:25-29 2) James 5:1-6 3) Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48 FOCUS: Would that all the people of the Lord were prophets! Jesus says, There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. By our baptism we are called to prophecy, and to share the good news of salvation. May we have the enthusiasm of Eldad, Medad and the unknown follower of the Gospel having no fear in proclaiming the truth and not waiting to be told what to do. LITURGY OF THE WORD Joshua protests to Moses in our first reading that two men who were not present when the Spirit of God came and rested upon the elders should not be prophesying. In the second reading, James tells us what happens to the things of this world. In the Gospel, John says to Jesus that someone not in their company was using the power of his name, and Jesus replies, whoever is not against us is for us. Reading for the following Sunday SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2018 TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 1) Genesis 2:18-24 2) Hebrews 2:9-11 3) Mark 10:2-16 or 10:2-12 St. Mary's 2019 Family FestivalSunday February 10, 2019 Everyone is invited to our 2019 Festival Planning Meetings. Our next Festival Planning meeting will be October 8, 2018 in the St. Mary's AV Room at 7:00pm. At this time we are asking for Raffle donations, the deadline for your donations is Monday Oct. 22 and jewelry for the jewelry booth. We welcome all parishioners as we prepare to have our BEST festival yet. If you are interested in helping in any way or have questions, please call Kevin or Joan Pfister - 576-9638. We need everyone s help in making this Festival a success. Concert to Benefit Repairs to the organ Opera to Broadway: and bits in between October 13th * 6:30 p.m. * St. Mary s Hall The damage to the church building due to Harvey was fairly obvious: not so obvious was the damage to the organ. We have managed to get around it thanks to the talents of our organist Jeanne Hickl and by removing some of the pipes. This is a band-aid approach but the required repairs are costly. To help raise funds to offset some of these expenses St. Mary s is sponsoring a free benefit concert. Music from Rossini to Mancini will be provided by Lena Lowe, her husband Mike McCarver, and accompanist Mary Jean Sargent. Lena was a student of both Nazareth Academy and St. Joseph High School and a member of St. Mary s Choir. Lena, Mike, and their accompanist are accomplished musicians active in the music and theatre in the Houston/Galveston area. Donations for the organ repair are greatly appreciated.
