Surah Ar-Rahman (Ayah 54-61) Class 9 May 4, 2013 Introduction Surah Ar- Rahman from the beginning till the end is about Allah s mercy. The greatest blessing is when Allah is teaching us the Quran. This means giving us an opportunity to learn the Quran. We need to attach ourselves to Allah and ask him to make us from among the Ahl- Al- Quran. For the Ahal Quran the reward is the blessing of Paradise. The Prophet SAW said Allah has said: I have prepared for My righteous servants what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no heart has conceived. So recite if you wish: No person knows what is kept hidden for them of delights of the eye as a reward for what they used to do (32:17) [Sunan At- Tirmidhi, Book of Exegesis, Number 3292, Sahih] In order to have highest level in Paradise the characteristics of the believer is that he fears standing in front of Allah. This is trait of the people of Paradise. When they know Allah, they glorify him and at the same timethey fear him. The fear makes them run to Allah and not run away from him. Allah reforms us in every stage of our life because he wants us to go to Paradise. In the previous Ayat Allah is telling us the various delights of Paradise i.e. its Gardens, Trees, fruits, Springs etc. م Ayah 46-78 ان Ayah 54 In this Ayah Allah mentions about the various sitting places for the people of Paradise. Allah prepared the Paradise especially for the believer so we can imagine how perfect it will be. ٴ م ت ك يین means reclining or leaning in a relaxing position. There is no tiredness in Paradise but people are relaxing out of enjoyment. on means ع ل ى 1
Farash. means couches with comfort. The singular is ف ر شش lining means ب ط ا ) ن ہ ا of means م ن silk means ا إ س ت ب ر قق In Surah Ghashiah there is description of the houses, sofas, seating s for the people of Paradise. Within it are couches raised high And cups put in place And cushions lined up And carpets spread around. We need to see the Duniya as something small then we will consider the Akhirah big. Paradise is in accordance with the believer s desires. means ripe fruits of the two gardens. Anything that a person in Paradise وو ج ن ى ٱٱل ج ن ت يی ن دد اانن wishes, it will come close to him. When the dwellers of Paradise will look at any of the fruits and desire to eat it, the branches will come to them and present peeled fruits to them peeled fruits. The branches will have feeling for the people of Paradise 2
From this we learn that whatever is the matter and problem in the Duniya we need to patient on it. Our life in the Duniya is for a short time and in the end we will all go to Akhirah. Actually nothing in this Duniya is a problem except if a person goes to hell fire. Our concern should be to not do anything that will take us to hell fire. Nothing else in this Duniya is a big deal. We ourselves magnify our problems and make matters of the Duniya a big deal. We need to keep reminding ourselves that our life in the Duniya is only temporary for short time and is nothing but a test. We need to patient so we will be rewarded for all problems in Akhirah Ibn Abbas once said to me ( Ata bin Abi Rabah) Shall I show you a woman of the people of Paradise? I said, Yes. He said, This black lady came to the Prophet SAW and said, I get attacks of epilepsy and my body becomes uncovered; please invoke Allah for me. The Prophet SAW said (to her), If you wish, be patient and you will have (enter) Paradise; and if you wish, I will invoke Allah to cure you. She said, I will remain patient, and added, but I become uncovered, so please invoke Allah for me that I may not become uncovered. So he invoked Allah for her. Bukhari :: Book 7 :: Volume 70 :: Hadith 555 From this we can determine that whatever situation Allah puts us in he gave us the ability to overcome it and bear it. Allah is so merciful he will not put us in a situation that we cannot bear. It is the cracks in our life that we need to either give in to or overcome our cracks. Our cracks are things we find difficult to overcome though Allah gave us the ability to overcome it Ayah 55 In which of Allah s blessings you both deny? 3
Ayah 56 gardens means In the ف يیہ ن This Ayah mentions the description of the ladies of Paradise. One of the characteristics in the Duniya of the believing lady is that she takes care of herself for her husband The ladies of paradise are not only beautiful from outside but when she speaks she is full of love and it will stay like this for forever. The lady of Paradise will say to her husband O Allah I will not see anything one in Paradise more handsome more than you and nothing is more beloved than you. The believing lady will be a queen over the Hoor Al Aeen. Ayah 57 In which of Allah s blessings you both deny? How Allah purified the people of Paradise. The person will be purified internally and externally. 5
Ayah 58 Here the description of the external beauty is mentioned. The beauty in Duniya is a test to not be proud. In the Duniya we need to beautify ourselves. Mishkat, (volume three Says on pages 83-97): The Prophet ( ععللییہہ االلللہہ صصللیی ( ووسسللمم said, "ʺIf a houri looks down from her abode in heaven onto the earth, the whole distance (space) shall be filled with light and fragrance. A houri'ʹs face is more radiant than a mirror, and one can see one'ʹs image in her cheek. The marrow of her shins is visible to the eyes."ʺ All the people will be sitting in Paradise facing each other. No one will have any hatred in Paradise Hadith Prophet SAW said there is also a market in Paradise. The things in the market in Paradise are different from the things in Duniya. They will also have an outing during which a breeze will blow and it will increase the glow on their faces. 6
Ayah 59 In which of Allah s blessings you both deny? Ayah 60 Here Allah is asking a question that is there any reward for the good except the good? To be in Paradise is an Ihsan from Allah. In order to get this Ihsan from Allah We need to do Ihsan in the Duniya for ourselves. There are two ways to do Ihsan 1. By following the commandments of Allah 2. Abstain from the forbidden and the sins When we obey Allah, He does not benefit from our obedience. Our obedience to Allah only benefits us as we are doing good to ourselves by following the commandments of Allah We don t know how to be good to ourselves. We need divine guidance in order to do good. We should not cause destruction to ourselves by following our desires as we have so many bad characteristics so we need to follow Allah s rules. Don t think of the rules as a burden as we will benefit. When we do good deeds for people we are doing Ihsan to ourselves, as we will benefit on the Day of Judgment. Anything we do where we are following Allah s commandments we are doing Ihsan. The more we do Ihsan by following rules the more Allah will do Ihsan on us on the Day of Judgment. Although Allah will not benefit from our Ihsan, Allah is making us do Ihsan to ourselves. We don t own anything in the Duniya. He gave us the limbs, heart, Quran etc so we will use it to do Ihsan 7
When we do the following we are doing Ihsan, 1. Imparting Knowledge 2. Learning 3. Remembrance of Allah Surah Ar- Rahman (Ayah 54-61) We need to continuously tell ourselves that we don t want to be in loss. So what thing can take us out of the loss? If we teach, learn or remember Allah. In Surah Asr we can learn how to do good to ourselves. What is the time when we are doing good to ourselves. Everything in the Duniya will be going for a loss except 4 things we will be doing 1. Time you spent to believe 2. Time you spent for Good deeds 3. Enjoin each other with good 4. Patience. We need patience for everything. This is how we can do Ihsan to our selves Ayah 61 In which of Allah s blessings you both deny? 8
