Each week, we will focus on 1 day of the Creation story. The teaching will be done through songs, games and crafts. Routine is very important for toddlers. It helps prepare them mentally for the activity. Familiarity also makes them more receptive to the teaching and thus more responsive to follow instructions. Biblical Learning Objectives for Children 1. To teach children how each day of the Creation is dependent on the completion of the previous day of Creation. 2. To teach the children the greatness of God. Small Group Teaching Two Parts Each week, in the small group teaching, there are two parts namely: Part 1 Story Recital Cum Movement: You will be teaching using your body movement and actions as you narrate the Creation story. As such, your movement must be big because you are the visual aid and like any teaching aids, you must be loud and exciting to capture the children s attention and engage them. Part 2 Weekly Creation Focus: In this part, there will be a take home craft that will be related to the weekly focus. You will use the following teaching aid to teach Part 2. Date Topic Part 2 Teaching Aid Week 1 (Oct 15 & 16) Day and Night Sample craft Week 2 (Oct 22 & 23) Sky Sample craft Week 3 (Oct 29 & 30) Land Sample craft Week 4 (Nov 5 & 6) Heavenly Bodies Sample craft Week 5 (Nov 12 & 13) Birds Storyboards Week 6 (Nov 19 & 20) Fishes Storyboards Week 7 (Nov 26 & 27) Animals Storyboards Week 8 (Dec 3 & 4) People Your body movement and actions Using sample craft to teach Part 2 This is done as you use the Sample Craft to teach the children the what and why God had created for us to enjoy. End the weekly teaching by showing the children how to do the craft. Using storyboard to teach Part 2 Storyboard is one of the oldest teaching methods. As you use the storyboards, do ensure that you hold them at the children s eye level and to use them to highlight the weekly Creation focus and how great God is to have created it out of nothing. Page 1

Small Group Teaching - Part 1 Story Recital cum Movement Important to Note: One of the learning objectives in this series is repetition, so after you have taught the children the action of 1 Creation day, you are to repeat that action before you teach them the next Creation day actions. For example, if you are at Day 3, you are to repeat Day1 and Day 2 actions before you teach them the Day 3 actions. Story - What you say In the beginning, a long, long time ago. There was nothing. It was all dark. Children, now cover your eyes with your hands. It was very dark. Then God says Let there be light! Ta-ta! And there was day and there was night. Day One God Made light! Day Two. What happens on Day Two? God made sky! Now children comes sit together in the middle if you want to touch the sky! Day Two! God made sky! Day Two - God made sky! (repeat this several times 4 to 5 times) Now let s go back to our places. Magic cloth will come to you when you are seated back in your places. Waah.magic cloth waah magic cloth Actions - What you do Hold up both hands and turn the hands side-to-side to sign nothing Cover your own eyes with hands. Open your eyes as you slowly move your hands away. Use a piece of light, thin cloth, sky blue color and about the size of a sarong/pario. You stand and hold 2 corners of cloth over the children while a helper holds the other 2 corners. Lower cloth over the children (that are all seated with theirs hands reaching up over their heads) and lift it up again very quickly. Repeat To encourage children to go back to their proper sitting position. Fold sky cloth up in half and light sweep cloth over the faces of children who are sitting quietly in their positions. Ok, let s repeat from Day 1 actions. Remember repetition is good for this age group. And let us repeat Day 2 actions. Day Three - God made land! Boys, you are to hit the floor And flowers -.all the girls make pretty flower faces. And trees these are the branches of the trees Leader to repeat Day 1 to Day 3 actions. With both hands slap the floor in front of you. Frame your face with both hands and smile sweetly. Reach hands over head and wiggle fingers. Page 2

Day Four - God made stars! God made stars, And sun And moon Sing Twinkle, Twinkle, little star After the song fingers twinkle One hand spread wide open, reaching high over your head One hand draws the crescent shape in front of you. Leader to repeat Day 1 to Day 4 actions Day Five - God made birds! Fly like a bird. Fly around and say hello to your friends. Ok let s be seated now. On Day Five God made the birds and God also made fish! Let s swim around and say hello to the other fish in the ocean. Pretend to be birds, with two hands as wings and fly. Go around and touch the wings of the children and say hello Sit down. Make hands like wings then put both hands together in front of you and wiggle like a fish. Move around and touch fish with the children. Leader to repeat Day 1 to Day 5 actions Day Six - God made the animals! Ok let s sing Old Macdonald has a farm e-i-e-i-o and on his farm he had some cows e-i-e-i-o. Can you guess what sound does a cow makes? Moo moo..cow! yes! What about this sound, quack quack What animal is this? Duck yes! (make about 5 animal sounds cow, duck, dog, sheep, horse, cat) God made animals on Day Six. But God also made something else on Day Six. Something very important and special. Can you guess what God made on Day Six that is so special? God made people. Yes God made you!! Point to yourself and say God made me! (you may also choose to move around the room like the animal of the sound you are making.) Point to your chest. Leaders to repeat Day 1 to Day 6 actions. Day Seven - God rested! Put both hands on the side of your head while you tilt head towards heads as though sleeping or taking a nap. Page 3

Week 5 (Nov 12 & 13) Small Group Activities: Creation Day 5 Birds Key Verse: God created every winged bird according to its kind Gen 1:20 Focus: Birds God made the birds to fly in the air. God made the Birds special. Objective: Children will learn to appreciate the birds that fly in the sky. Small Group Teaching - Part 2 Weekly Focus Day 5 God made Birds 1.
