Page 3 Easter Sunday - March 27, 2016 A Message from Fr. Bob EASTER MESSAGE HE IS RISEN AS HE SAID ALLELUIA ALLELUIA Dear friends in the Risen Lord, On this Easter Sunday, we join Chris ans all over the world to celebrate the resurrec on of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We celebrate the truth of Jesus resurrec on from the dead. The truth that forever changed the world; Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. On this Easter Sunday we affirm our belief in the presence of Jesus in our lives - Christ yesterday, Christ today, and Christ forever. The celebra on of Easter reminds us all of how gracious God has been to us. For God so loved the world that he gave us his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. John 3:16 As we celebrate this great mystery of our faith, we are called to share the Good News. Easter is a perfect me to strengthen our faith in the risen Christ. For some Chris ans, Easter is one of the few occasions that they come to church. Please do not let Easter be a spiritual day trip for you, rather, make it a day of renewal on your journey with Christ. Please join me in congratula ng our friends who received the Sacraments of Ini a on (Bap sm, Confirma on, and First Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil. We pray for them that they may con nue to grow in faith. Allow me to express my apprecia on and gra tude to all who worked relessly in preparing for the Holy Week and Easter liturgies. Special thanks to the St. Benedict Staff, Sacristans, Art and Environment Commi ee Members, the Choir, Altar Servers, Lectors, Eucharis c Ministers, Hospitality Ministers, Deacon Ed, the Bread Bakers and all those who worked behind the scenes. Please keep up the good spirit of teamwork. May God bless you all! As many of you are aware, this year I am celebra ng my 25th Priestly Ordina on Anniversary (Silver Jubilee). As part of my celebra on on Easter Monday (tomorrow), I will be flying to Rome and am scheduled to concelebrate Mass with Pope Francis in his private chapel of Domus Sanctae Marthae on Thursday, April 7, at 7 am. Be assured that you will be in my prayers. In my absence Msgr. Richard Moyer will be here in residence and will be celebra ng Masses. Wishing you all a Blessed and Joyful Easter filled with love and happiness. ~ Fr. Bob

This day allowed parishioners of all ages to spend the a ernoon living out our faith and fulfilling our call to serve others during this Year of Mercy. Following is a brief wrap-up that is a direct result of your me, generosity, and love: 250 volunteers worked side-by-side comple ng meaningful service projects throughout the day. 2,615 peanut bu er sandwiches were made and delivered to St. Vincent de Paul for those in need. 58 twin-size, fleece blankets were completed (and 44 more are being made at home and during EPIC) for newborn babies at Maggie s Place to keep as they grow. 120 pillowcases were designed as gi s for children at Ryan House who are naviga ng end-of-life journeys. 329 pairs of socks were collected for recently deported migrants who arrive with sore and o en bare feet at Kino Border Ini a ve in Nogales, Mexico. 100 personal hygiene kits were assembled for recently deported migrant women and children at Kino Border Ini a ve who o en arrive with only the clothes on their back. 143 pairs of glasses were collected for the Lions Club to give people of all ages the gi of sight. 89 bags of cat food and 201 bags of dog food were bagged and delivered to Empty Bowl Pet Food Pantry to support families caring for pets during mes of economic challenge, health problems, or natural disasters. 145 handmade Easter cards were made and delivered to the residents of Mountain Park Senior Living and the homebound of our parish. Over 300 books were collected and delivered to homeless mothers and children staying at the Gi of Mary Home run by the Missionaries of Charity (the Mother Teresa sisters). More than 50 families were given instruc ons for a small at-home project that will benefit Habitat for Humanity as well as give God thanks for all that has been given to them. None of this would have been possible without the help of our sponsors: Alpine Valley Bread Company, Costco, Barefoot Pools, and YOU! A HUGE thank you goes out to all of you who fulfilled the Lenten Service Tree requests for the items needed to complete each project. Your overwhelming generosity combined with the me and love of those who volunteered and par cipated allowed our parish to reach 3,844 of our brothers and sisters in Christ (and their pets)!

Service Opportuni es JAM Heroic Faith - March 29 Disney s Hercules movie was my absolute favorite movie. It had everything! Menacing monsters, a sweet soundtrack, and heroes galore! Crazy, I know. Come join JAM on Tuesday, March 29, as we gather for Heroic Faith! We ll be mee ng at St. John Bosco from 6 to 7:15 pm in the Mul -Purpose Room. All middle schoolers are encouraged to a end. Ques ons? Contact David Rees at drees@stbenedict.org. During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, the St. Benedict Faith Forma on team would like to give our parishioners the opportunity to go out into the greater community to serve others. We will be coordina ng visits to various organiza ons to enable our parishioners to directly work with local people in need. Throughout the year, you will find opportuni es to serve as a gardener for Catholic Chari es, packing food at Feed My Starving Children, cleaning a Maggie s Place home, and serving meals to guests at Andre House, St. Vincent de Paul and UMOM. Please visit www.stbenedict. org/service for more details and to sign up to help! Thank you for joining together with our community as we find ways to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world.

Now, and for 50 days, we celebrate the season of Easter, which ends with the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. St. Paul wrote that, unless Christ rose from the dead, our faith is in vain (1 Corinthians 15:17). Through his death, Christ saved mankind from bondage to sin, and he destroyed the hold that death has on all of us; but it is his Resurrec on that gives us the promise of new life, both in this world and the next. That new life began on Easter Sunday. Our Easter readings include our Second Reading from Colossians, which is a reading of hope. Paul reminds us that we have died and our life is hidden with Christ in God. Paul urges us to look forward to what we cannot yet see: When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory! We will celebrate Easter Mass singing Alleluia!, but there is s ll work to be done. We might reflect on this as we hear our First Reading from Acts, where we have Peter s great sermon, his tes mony summarizing salva on history. But what follows this sermon is a commissioning. What Christ has been to us, we must now be to others. This means that as we are sent forth from the empty tomb, we may have to re-journey up to Calvary. ~ catholicism.about.com, and catholicmoraltheology.com Congratula ons The Parish of St. Benedict sends a hear elt congratula ons out to Logan Bjorklund and Kathy Skromme!
