Catholic Charities and Farmworker Ministry have grown to depend on our generous support during their annual collection of Thanksgiving Food Bags. The brown bags will be distributed on the weekend of November 3/4 and are to be returned the following weekend, November 10/11. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE. Collection will take place throughout ONE WEEK only. If you would like to participate, here are some suggestions of ways to help: Pick up a food list with the brown paper bag, shop for these items, place them in the paper bag and bring the bag to church, and return to the narthex OR write a check to St. Matthew and in the memo write Thanksgiving Food Bag. The check/money may be placed in the collection basket or accepted at the Welcome Desk in the narthex. All food from this drive will be distributed in our local community. If you or someone you know in our parish needs help with the Thanksgiving holiday, please call the St. Matthew office at 324-3040.Together, we can make a tremendous difference! October is RESPECT LIFE month. Parishioner Name Badges Your Name To commemorate Respect Life, St. Matthew will be collecting pre-natal vitamins and diapers, especially sizes 3-5, throughout October for the Life Choice Pregnancy Center on Central Avenue. They have a great need for pre-natal vitamins. Any will be accepted. Please drop them off at the basket in the narthex. Can I Say a Prayer with You? If you are in need of prayer our Prayer Ministers are available after all of our weekend Masses by the Holy Family Statue. We ask that you wait until the conclusion of the recessional Hymn before joining them by the Holy Family Statue. As our Community continues to grow, to renew and to build, here is a wonderful opportunity to get to know one another better as we have been called by name into the body of Christ. Please join in this effort to reach out to one another, to call one another by name. As a parish, we are offering each member a nametag to wear to all parish functions. There is no charge for the name tag. All we ask is that if you choose to receive one that you wear it when you come to Church. They are also being offered to our registered Winter Residents. If you would like to receive one you can go to our parish website and click on the link to order one or stop by the information desk in the Narthex and fill out the Nametag Order Card. If you have previously requested a name tag, please stop by the information desk in the Narthex to pick it up. Some of our High School Core Team Members experienced a joyful night at Bishop Grady Villas 15th Annual Harvest Ball last week! It was great to see some of the residents who recognize the teens who volunteered at Bishop Grady Villas this past summer. This night was a great opportunity to learn about the mission of Bishop Grady Villas, raise funds for scholarships for future residents, and meet and dance with the current residents at this Ball! Praise God for this ministry, Please pray for them and consider making a donation to Bishop Grady Villas. For more information on Bishop Grady Villas visit: www.bishopgradyvillas.org Youth Ministry Update Fall is finally here, and School is back in session but our Youth Ministry has been non-stop the entire summer! We spent most of our summer together meeting weekly and learning about Saint John Paul II s Theology of the Body through Ascensions You program. It was a beautiful program for the teens to be studying in today s tough world. Our High School Core Team took a trip to Bishop Grady Villas for a day of service. We got to meet the residents, serve them lunch and spend some time getting to know them and having fun with them! Later in June the teens helped put together Vacation Bible School for the children of our parish! We spent 7 days together decorating, and putting on skits, games, and lessons to teach the Children about God s rescuing Love. In July we kicked off our first ever Testimony Adoration and Benediction Night (TAB Night). Where I shared my testimony with the attendees, which preceded Adoration and Benediction later that night! It was a great night of vulnerability, prayer and Fellowship! With your help, prayers and donations we took 26 students to Orlando for Steubenville Youth Conference! Whether it was the speakers, the music, confession or Adoration, each student had a moment where Christ revealed His presence to them! This August we started our Faith Formation year with a BANG! We brought down a Catholic Hip-Hop / Acoustic artist, Connor Flanagan down from St. Paul, Minnesota to start his Skyscrapers Tour for his new album! He shared his gifts and music with us for a fun night of dancing, rapping, and a little bit of praise and worship. There was also a CO2 Cannon involved, that was fun. In September we had our Confirmation with Bishop Noonan, where He confirmed 26 Students at our 5 pm evening Mass! It was a wonderful experience to witness all of these Students who have been with us every week learning about the faith, receive this sacrament and to complete their initiation into the faith. As I mentioned, it has been a very busy summer for our youth ministry this summer and it only gets busier from here as we enter into the fall and prepare for our holiday season! We thank you for your prayers and your support. We ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers because they mean so much to all of them! May all Glory, Honor and Praise be to God! ROSARY CHALLENGE Each family of our parish is a Domestic Church. The Vietnamese Ministry of St. Matthew, Mary s Hands and the Knights of Columbus, invite every Domestic Church in our parish to pray a Mystery of the Rosary each day during the month of October. During the month of October, each family should pick at least seven mysteries from the Rosary Mystery Basket that will be located in the narthex of the church. Each night, before going to bed or at a convenient time, all members of the family should pray together one mystery of the Rosary. Keep track during the week how many people in your family pray each mystery writing the number on the slips of papers you take home with you from the Rosary Mystery Basket and return them to church the next weekend. Pick at least seven new mysteries from the basket and do the same each week during October returning the slips of paper with the mysteries you prayed and the number of members in your family who prayed them. If you live alone we invite you to also pray in this fashion and maybe even consider inviting friends to pray with you. Let us see how many Mysteries of the Rosary our parish can pray throughout the month of October. Together let us join the Knights of Columbus and our Vietnamese Ministry in BUILDING THE DO- MESTIC CHURCH through prayer to our Blessed Mother. (Our Mary's Hands Rosary Ministry will have rosaries available for those who may be in need of a Rosary.) Monthly Meeting times: 2nd & 4th Mondays at 7:00 p.m. Location: St. Matthew Church Hall

Devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Beginning on Friday, October 19, 2018 at 1 pm and every Friday thereafter, we will be gathering for this devotion at Saint Matthew Catholic Church. Devotion to the Sacred Heart, as we know it, began about the year 1672. On repeated occasions, Jesus appeared to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, a Visitation nun in France, and during these apparitions He explained to her the devotion to His Sacred Heart as He wanted people to practice it. The symbol is His Heart of flesh and he asked for frequent Communion, Communion on the first Friday of the month and the keeping of the Holy Hour. The Heart of Jesus never ceases to love us in Heaven. He sanctifies us through the Sacraments. These are inexhaustible fountains of grace and holiness which have their source in the boundless ocean of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We invite you to join us!

Cemetery Sunday, which will be celebrated on November 4 th this year, is a special opportunity for us to remember the importance of caring for the dead in our Catholic faith tradition. This is a moment to remind us of our responsibility, as people of faith, to properly care for those who have died. We also remember to express thanks and blessing to those who provide bereavement support and those who provide for the interment and lasting care of our beloved dead. Here at St. Matthew we have committed ourselves as a parish community to fulfill the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy to Bury those who have died, Comfort the Sorrowful and Pray for those who have died. On Cemetery Sunday following the 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. Masses, we will process as a faith community to our St. Matthew Cemetery Columbarium to pray for those who have been inurned in our Columbarium and bring comfort to their loved ones who are among us. During the month of November, following the weekday Masses, Monday through Friday, we will process to the Columbarium to pray for those who have died. Canon Law, Code 1240 St. Matthew Cemetery Columbarium Where possible, the Church is to have its own cemeteries or at least areas in civil cemeteries that are designated for the deceased members of the faithful and properly blessed. If this cannot be achieved, however, then individual graves are to be properly blessed. Benefits of our Parish Cemetery Columbarium located on our church grounds. Perpetual Care: The Code of Canon Law requires the Catholic Church to perpetually maintain its places of burial. Care will always be assured. Security: Proximity on constantly occupied, well-lighted Church grounds assures optimum security. Convenience: With your final resting place here on the Church grounds, your family and friends and all those attending Mass will find it convenient to visit and pay their respects. Serenity: Our columbarium fits perfectly into existing and planned future construction, offering a serene, peaceful environment for meditation and quiet reflection. For more information contact the parish office: 863.324.3040 TheFloridaCatholic.org

ALL SOULS DAY REMEMBRANCE MASS 7:00 p.m., November 2 One of the Spiritual Works of Mercy is to pray for the living and the dead. On November 2, the Feast of All Souls, we remember all of our deceased loved ones in a special way. We invite you to join us for our traditional All Souls Day Mass at 7:00PM followed by a light reception in the Parish Center. Registered members of our parish who have died or have been inurned in our Columbarium within the past year will be remembered as we light a seven-day votive candle for them. Also, during this Mass, all will be given the opportunity to light a candle in honor of their deceased loved ones that will burn during the Mass. If you will be joining us for the Mass and would like to have the photo of your deceased loved one projected on the screen during the candle lighting ceremony, you may email us a digital image, along with their name and date of death to: photos@saintmcc.com We ask that the photo that you submit be a recent one prior to their death and not a childhood photo. Deadline to submit a photo is Friday, October 26. If you are not able to provide us with a digital image you may stop by the parish office and we will be able to scan it for you. If you would like to donate a fall plant in memory of a loved one to help decorate the sanctuary of the church for the All Souls Mass, please bring it to the church no later than the afternoon of November 2. For more information please visit our church website: www.saintmcc.com PARISH CODE: b8ca8 Deadline to submit a photo is Friday, Oct. 26 email them to: photos@saintmcc.com We invite you to join us at the November 2, All Souls Mass To learn more about this special celebration visit: SaintMatthewCatholicChurch.com/AllSouls
