FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Item One: 2018 marks the 140 th Anniversary of the founding of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. I have been informed by the Office of the Bishop that the Mass of Thanksgiving, giving praise to God for the many blessings shed on the parish throughout these 140 years will take place on Saturday, September 29 at 5:00pm. The celebrant of the Mass will be The Most Reverend Witold Mroziewski, J.C.D., D.D.. The homilist at the Mass will be Reverend Monsignor John Casey, former pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish. The Parish Pastoral Council and I have also discussed preliminary plans to have a dinner-dance to celebrate this special occasion. The dinner dance will take place at Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston on Oct., 20th. More details to follow. Item Two: We are also planning to have a Super Raffle. Only 400 tickets will be sold at $100 each. The winner will receive $20,000 and the parish will receive $20,000 (provided all the tickets are sold). More details to follow in future bulletins. Thanks to all the generous individuals who made a pledge to the 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish to date. So far, 119 parishioners/families have made a pledge to the ACA 2018. $54,510 has been pledged of which $46,963 has been paid as of Monday, May 14. Our goal is $91,485.00. There remains time to make a pledge. You may find a donation envelope at the entrance of the church under the ACA posters. We need $36,975 to reach goal. Please remit your pledge and hand it by May 28 th so that we reach and hopefully exceed our goal before Summer begins! Also, please check and see if your employer participates in a matching gift program. If your employer does participate, please contact Msgr. Machalski for information concerning this program. FEAST OF SACRED HEART June 8th St. John Paul II declared that each year, on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the faithful throughout the world should pray in a special way for the sanctification of the clergy. The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus falls on Friday, June 8th this year. The 9am Mass will be offered for all of our parishioners living and deceased on our parish Feast day. After the 9am Mass (or after a funeral if one occurs) there will be Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day. The school children will join us at Mass this day. It is imperative that at least two people sign us for adoration each hour. Sign up sheets are located in the vestibule of the Church. At 7:30pm that evening we will have the recitation of the rosary, pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and have Benediction. Please take some time to spend in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and pray for the sanctification of the clergy, especially for me and Fr. Alex. Also please pray for our seminarian Alex and for an increase of vocations to the priesthood. A plenary indulgence is available to those who, on this day, or in close proximity, go to confession, receive Holy Communion and pray the intentions of the Holy Father. The indulgence can be applied to oneself or to the soul of a deceased loved one. THANK YOU. A special thank you to the parishioner, who again wishes to remain anonymous, for the lovely hibiscus trees planted in the planters in front of the school, and the lovely flowers planted in front of the rectory and church.
