FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, COOLIDGE Volume 7 Issue 8 August 2017 July Food Distribution Amazes All Our church participated in a gigantic food distribution that took place on our old football field. Over 100,000 pounds of food was given away. Cars and trucks were backed up on 171 for almost a mile. From 10:00AM to almost 1:00PM we passed out food to vehicles as fast as we could. It was a wonderful Inside this issue: Note from Pastor 2 Children Update 2 Viewpoint 3 Chaplain Guy 3 and amazing experience to get to be a part of this type of event. 5 We are looking forward to future opportunities such as this to be the hands and feet of Jesus, giving to the physical needs of people so that we might have the opportunity to share with them about what their greatest need is in finding Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Our church was well represented not only in helping to distribute here at the sight, but also by several members who came by to pick up food to take to those who could not be there themselves. At the end of this hot and rainy day, a shower, a nap, and some lunch was good. But what was best was that which was in our hearts as a result of participating in such an amazing time!

P A G E 2 I t s o n m y h e a r t... As I write these words I am preparing for our Celebration of the Life of our beloved Peggy Anderson. Spending extra time with Roger this week has been a blessing to my heart. His commitment to honoring the Lord Jesus Christ through everything that is said and done in the Memorial Service is very inspiring to me. I will miss seeing Peggy going to the kitchen to get a pitcher of water for her students in her class. I will miss the weekly updates she gave me each Sunday as to what was happening at LTC and how God was using her to minister there. I will miss seeing her ever at Roger s side in the worship service doing everything she could to support the deacon ministry of her beloved husband. But as I sit here and write from my heart, I must also rejoice in knowing that Peggy still went to church last Sunday! She just went to a different church! The church she went to worships the Lord Jesus Christ in His physical Presence. She has seen His face. She has felt His touch! She has received blessing after blessing just for her from the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. I cannot feel sad about this! I C OOL C O N N E C T I O N S will miss her, but also understand that it just a short while I will see her again. The next time I see Peggy, she will have a perfect young body with no illness, no pain, no suffering, nor any sorrow. She will be beautifully whole and excited for me to get to be the same way. I will get her report on how she has continued to pray for us. She will tell me all about what has been happening in Heaven. Can you imagine that? I try, but know I fall short. I will miss her more than I can put into words. But I would not, for any reason, wish that she would come back. She will not come to us, but we will go to her with our Lord in Heaven. Thank you Peggy Jane Anderson for all you have done in the Name of your Lord. Pastor Chuck Children s Ministry report Jesus, however, invited them: Let the little children come to Me, and don t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Luke 18:16 (HCSB) We don t have all the details ironed out as of the writing of this report, but we will begin our Wednesday after school activities this month. Our target date is August 23. Glen Hullum has been so faithful to drive the van and cook those world famous grilled cheese sandwiches. Deborah Hullum and her youth have been great about helping serve the food and leading out with the music. Finally, we are indebted to Francis Carter and members of her GALS such as Betty Smith and Sissy Allen who have helped out with food preparation, clean up, and lending a hand during instruction time. Jessica Bonilla has also been a great help during instruction time. Please let us know if you would like to help with Gospel Kids this year. We meet every Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:00 except during school holidays. We use the Gospel Project material put out by Lifeway to help the children learn about our God from the Bible. The children also learn to pray and use the Bible. There s an old hymn titled, I Love to Tell the Story. The second verse says, I love to tell the story; Tis pleasant to repeat. What seems each time I tell it, More wonderfully sweet: I love to tell the story, For some have never heard The message of salvation From God s own holy Word. I love to tell the story, Twill be my theme in glory To tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love. Come join us and share the privilege of telling the old, old story, to the precious children of Coolidge. Jo Lynn

V O L U M E 7 I S S U E 8 Viewpoint P A G E 3 Summer time has been a busy time. Many of our youth have taken trips to see relatives, gone on mission trips, helped with baseball, and gone on vacation trips. Still, they have had time to come to Tuesday night Bible study. This summer, we started something new. We met at the church at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, then went out to the lake to have our study. We have been studying the book of Philippians. It has been encouraging to learn how we can share in experiences, mission, purpose, and in the fellowship of the cross. This last Tuesday, we had a great study, then after we finished, we loaded up in the van and went into Mexia and had delicious snow cones! Check out the picture. We have a great time studying the Word of God and fellowshipping with one another. We will continue to meet on Tuesdays until the third week of August, then we will begin meeting again on Wednesdays. Please pray for the youth that they will understand their purpose and our mission in Coolidge. Also, as we meet each week, I pray that the youth will grow closer to God as they fellowship in the cross. SUPPORT OUR YELLOWJACKETS! We will be hosting a 5th quarter after the home games on September 15th and October 27th. If you can help with refreshments or by being there, please let me know. Deborah As we continue the CC series, we all realize that life goes on, and we see daily around us the good, the bad, and things that can potentially take our minds off our walk with God and His purpose for us as His children. This week I saw on facebook where a company is asking their employees to take the VeriChip injection (a computer chip often placed in the hand) which seems to be a human monitoring system that can be used for identification purposes. Though medically there could be some benefit, clearly this could be technology opening a door that in my mind could be misused and migrate into what may resemble the mark of the beast as talked about in Scripture. Should we be afraid? No, but awareness is a good thing as we keep our focus on Him. So far we ve learned to keep our focus on God in every situation by: 1. Knowing and confessing that we are truly saved! 2. Knowing and confession that we as Christians have been called and empowered by God to fulfill His purpose in the world around us! 3. Being diligent in praying and seeking Him daily (prayer is asking and listening) which is a Christian s lifestyle, Pray without ceasing! Now another step is on the subject of Scripture! In potentially anxiety producing situations I run to the Bible, God s Holy Word. I know and confess to Him that I believe His every word! What verses come to your mind when Satan tempts you to loose your focus and direction off our Heavenly Father? For me there are so many, but Philippians 4:6-7, 13 is my source of strength daily; Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made know unto to God, and the peace of God shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ our Lord! And I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! Romans 8:1 moves my heart! Matthew 6:33, Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you! When I do these things mentioned, and I do every day, I know that I know what an Awesome Wonderful God He is to me and to all of His children! Pray about it think about it! To God be the Glory! Larry the Chaplain Guy

P A G E 4 C OOL C O N N E C T I O N S arise with all of his demons and assault the earth in a final attempt to destroy Jesus and His followers. That will be called the battle of Gog and Magog (Rev. 20:7-10). Following the defeat of Satan and all of His army, God will cast all of them into the Lake of Fire to be tormented day and night forever. This new section is designed for you. All you have to do is to email or ask your questions to Pastor Chuck and he will do his best to answer your questions. All questions asked will be anonymous and will be used in this section to answer questions that many others may also have. Ask your Who, What, Where, When, and Why questions along with your How questions as it pertains to our church and our affiliation with the various groups with which we share ministry. Today s Question: What does our church believe about End Times? There are many things about the End Times that we do not fully know or understand. This is the way it is with Prophesy. But from what is explained in the Bible, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. We believe that when our physical bodies die now, that we are immediately in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. As Christians, He has promised this to us and has said that He will never leave us nor forsake us. But if we are alive when the End Times come, we believe in what is called the Rapture. That will happen before the Great Tribulation occurs and the church will be taken into Heaven to be with Christ and will not experience the terrible judgments of God that will occur in the Great Tribulation. When the Great Tribulation ceases after 7 years, then we believe that Jesus will come down out of Heaven and rule from Jerusalem for 1,000 years. We call that the Millennium and for that time Satan and all of his demons will be locked up securely in what is called the Abyss. There they will remain until the end of the 1,000 year reign of Christ. Following this, the Great White Throne Judgment will take place where all the dead will be judged. Those who are without faith in Jesus will never have had their name written in the Lambs Book of Life and as such will also be cast into the Lake of Fire to suffer the same fate eternally that Satan and his demons are experiencing. Death and Hell are cast into the Lake of Fire, and all sin and all death will no longer be a part of our lives for all eternity. We believe then that Jesus will create a New Heaven and a New Earth because the old has passed away. We believe God will come and take up a permanent residence in that place with us in the form of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. And finally, we believe that we will dwell in the physical presence of Jesus for all eternity and never again have to face any kind of sin or suffering. This is what most of us believe as Baptist Christians. There are some debates in minor details. But the most important aspect of this is that we can only make Heaven by placing our faith in Jesus. There is no other Name, there is no other way, there is no other hope. It is only by a personal faith in Jesus that we will escape the Lake of Fire to live eternally with Jesus. I hope this helps those of you with questions. I m already looking for my next question about our church that I can answer for you. Let me know what your question is and we will go to the Bible for the answer we seek. Pastor Chuck Following that, God will release Satan and Satan will

V O L U M E 7 I S S U E 8 Pilots in Mideast combat learn of alumni bond by By Vivian Quezada/California Baptist University, posted Friday, August 04, 2017 (6 hours ago) RIVERSIDE, Calif. (BP) -- Two pilots fighting ISIS in the Middle East connected in mid-air and realized they had something in common: They were both California Baptist University alumni. "I was thrilled to have a fellow Lancer in the air with me over a combat zone," said Keli Kaaekuahiwi, who was piloting an A-10 Warthog being refueled by Daniel Greer flying a KC-135 Stratotanker military aerial refueling aircraft. "It's very cool knowing that over a combat zone, halfway around the world, there's a guy to the same small -- when we were there -- Christian school and share the same beliefs," said Kaaekuahiwi, who was enrolled at CBU from 2006-2008. Greer, a 2006 CBU graduate, was stationed in Turkey with the Air Force Reserves this spring where he and his crew provided air refueling for fighter jets. While Greer was refueling Kaaekuahiwi's jet, the two pilots learned they were Lancers. A week later, Greer and his team once again refueled Kaaekuahiwi's jet and a few weeks later the two CBU alumni met in a chow hall at a military base in Turkey. "We agreed it was pretty cool that two former CBU undergrad students got to do air refueling while flying missions in the war against terror," Greer said. Kaaekuahiwi, who is now stationed in Korea, said flying in the Middle East had its rewards. "We were constantly flying over specific places that we all remember from the Bible. I could see the ancient ruins of Nineveh and the Euphrates River," Kaaekuahiwi said. "It was very rewarding knowing that we were there to save some really good people who are just in a horrible situation." Greer has returned to March Air Reserve Base in California, where he coordinates missions for KC-135 Stratotankers. After his return, Greer spoke to an aviation class at CBU. He said he is excited to see how CBU has grown, especially the department of aviation science. "I would encourage all the students to be open what God may have in store for them because it may not have anything to do with what they're majoring in," Greer said, noting that he was a college senior before setting his sights on being a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. "You never know where God is leading you or what He's going to do," Greer said. Reprinted from Baptist Press (www.baptistpress.com), news service of the Southern Baptist Convention. Hey, Stranger: Start to pray now for what the Lord would have you to do for our January Bible Study. It looks to again be a great challenge to our church as we will be studying the book of 1Peter, Living as Strangers in a Secular World. Will the Lord lead you to PRESENT, ATTEND, OFFER PRAYER SUPPORT? Or will it be all three? Do please earnestly pray about this great opportunity. Johnnie Mc P A G E 5
