Lake St. Lake Mills IA 50450 Welcome to the House of the Lord Sixth Sunday after Pentecost June 26, 2016-9:00 a.m. GATHERING PRELUDE Prelude in G Minor JS Bach (1685-1750) BELLS ANNOUNCEMENTS GATHERING SONG Holy Spirit, Ever Dwelling ELW #582 GREETING The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. You are the treasured people of the LORD, a people holy to the LORD our God. Keep the words of the LORD in your heart; teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. (Deuteronomy 26, 11, 8) HYMN OF PRAISE Majestic video projection O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. The heavens declare your greatness. The oceans cry out to you. The mountains, they bow down before you. So I ll join with the earth and I ll give my praise to you. (Repeat) Introduction We have no good apart from God. That makes our Lord s call to follow him an invitation to freedom. This is freedom to revel in the Spirit s fruits: love, joy, peace, patience, and the like. This is the path of life. O I will worship you. I will worship you. We will worship you. We will worship you. The heavens declare your greatness. The oceans cry out to you. The mountains, they bow down before you. So I ll join with the earth and I ll give my praise to you. So I ll join with the earth and I ll give my praise to you. So I ll join with the earth and I ll give my praise to you.
PRAYER OF THE DAY GOSPEL ACCLAMATION The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. Merciful Lord God, we do not presume to come before you trusting in our own righteousness, but in your great and abundant mercies. Revive our faith, we pray; heal our bodies, and mend our communities, that we may evermore dwell in your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. WORD FIRST READING 1 Kings 19:15-16, 19-21 Page 362 in the Bible Word of God, Word of life. Thanks be to God. PSALM 16 Today s Psalm will be spoken responsively beginning with the women 1 Protect me, O God, for I take refuge in you; I have said to the LORD, You are my Lord, my good above all other. 2 All my delight is in the godly that are in the land, upon those who are noble among the people. 3 But those who run after other gods shall have their troubles multiplied. 4 I will not pour out drink offerings to such gods, never take their names upon my lips. 5 O LORD, you are my portion and my cup; it is you who uphold my lot. 6 My boundaries enclose a pleasant land; indeed, I have a rich inheritance. 7 I will bless the LORD who gives me counsel; my heart teaches me night after night. 8 I have set the LORD always before me; because God is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices; my body also shall rest in hope. 10 For you will not abandon me to the grave, nor let your holy one see the pit. 11 You will show me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy, and in your right hand are pleasures for evermore. SECOND READING Galatians 5:1, 13-25 Page 201 in the Bible Word of God, Word of life. Thanks be to God. GOSPEL Luke 9:51-62 Page 72 in the Bible The Holy Gospel according to Luke, the ninth chapter. RESPONSE TO THE WORD HYMN OF THE DAY Jesus Loves Me video projection I couldn t run, couldn t run from his presence. I couldn t run, couldn t run from his arms. I couldn t run, couldn t run from his presence. I couldn t run, couldn t run from his arms. He holds the stars and he holds my heart with healing hands that bear the scars; The rugged cross where he died for me, my only hope, my everything. He loves me. He is for me. In Christ, you have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. We believe in him and are marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 1:13-14) Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith. I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. Keep yourselves in the love of God; look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 21) If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: Everything old has passed away; behold, everything has become new! (2 Corinthians 5:17) God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Therefore, let us be reconciled to God and to one another. Silence for reflection and self-examination. Gracious God, have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone. Uphold us by your Spirit so that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen The almighty and merciful Lord grant us pardon, forgiveness, and remission of all our sins. Amen. PEACE Sisters and brothers, rejoice. Mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace. (2 Corinthians 13:11) The peace of the Lord be with you always. And also with you. INSTRUMENTAL MUSICAL OFFERING Mark Sand and Ruth Sheldon I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit. (Jude 20)
OFFERTORY THE PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God s creation. A brief silence. Please respond at the end of each petition: Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. We lift our prayers to you, O God, trusting your promise to hear us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. BLESSING May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ fill you with every spiritual blessing. Amen May the God of faithfulness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus. Amen May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen (Romans 15) SENDING SONG Oh, Happy Day When We Shall Stand ELW #441 OFFERTORY PRAYER Together let us pray.
