New Website: www.saintpetercambridge.org Email: office@saintpetercambridge.org Telephone 617-547-4235 Fax 617-547-1525 Cambridge, MA A MESSAGE FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Increased Offertory Campaign: This past week all registered parishioners should have received a letter announcing our appeal to raise our regular weekly/monthly income. Within the next couple of weeks all registered parishioners will receive another letter specifically requesting an increase in your regular weekly/monthly giving to the parish. We ask you to prayerfully consider your request and respond with a generous heart. We will ask that all commitments be made by October 21 st when this campaign ends. Over the last five years, the cost of living index has risen 11.16% and the offertory collection of the parish has risen only 4.38%. As we look to the future, it is clear that we need to raise our regular, planned income. The parish is heavily dependant on rental income and gifts in order to pay our operational bills. An increase in the Offertory collection (a fixed, repeating, regular income) will allow us to establish true, workable budgets that will care for our immediate needs as well as provide for future needs as well. We have already published both the facilities report from this past summer, with costs of each project included, and the parish financial statement (Fiscal Year 7/1/11 through 6/30/12). This week both the web site and the bulletin have the parish budget for this fiscal year posted. We want you to understand the financial picture of the parish. Please note also, this campaign deals with the regular, planned (offertory) income of the parish. I will be speaking about this campaign at all the weekend masses on October 13/14. For information on how to contribute electronically, please see our parish web site www.saintpetercambridge.org or call the parish office 617-547-4235 x 10 or 12. On A Personal Note: I will be away from the parish from Monday, October 1 st through Tuesday, October 9 th. Special thanks to Frs. Bill Mulligan SJ, James Burns and Mike Medas for their generosity in covering masses while I am away!

Last week we published the actual financial statement for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2012. We want you to understand these financial issues of the Parish as me move into our increased giving campaign. Note that financial statements are for a fiscal year, (July 1 through June 30). What appears as excess revenue projected in our budget process is used for necessary repairs and maintenance of the Parish mostly done in the summer months. As you can see, the operating costs associated with the day to day running of the parish are pretty much evenly paid for by the offertory collection and money received from rental income. This reliance on rental income is not a good financial model. Rental income could change at any time, should a tenant leave or a problem occur in one of the buildings. Operating costs should be covered by our recurring revenue stream of the weekly/ monthly offering. Good stewardship of Saint Peter Parish would have us take responsibility for our own parish. The enhanced income from rental property should be saved for future shortfalls and capital improvements. All financial information is also available on the Parish website: www.saintpetercambridge.org. Why not consider Online Giving? Online Giving provides an easy and safe method for you to make your contributions to St. Peter Parish. Forgot your contribution envelope this weekend? Tired of writing checks? You no longer have to be concerned about catching up missed offertory donations when you miss a Mass because you are out-of-town or on vacation and you can easily adjust the amount of your automated contribution. By making consistent weekly or monthly contributions you help the parish to better plan and remain within its budget. A number of parishioners have already signed up - why not join them? Information about Online Giving is available on our website www.saintpetercambridge.org

Seeking Eucharistic Ministers for Elderly Facilities and the Homebound Our parish has a growing ministry offering communion to people who are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in our area, and also to people who are homebound due to illness or disability. Please consider volunteering! This is a wonderful way to share our Eucharistic banquet with those who are nearby but unable to be with us. You can fit this to your own schedule, and offer as little as an hour or two a week, on weekdays or weekends. No prior experience is needed. Deacon Tim O Donnell and his wife Elke will provide some training and help with the logistics. If you are interested in exploring this, please contact Deacon Tim O Donnell directly at 617-897-1148 or email todonnell@saintpetercambridge.org.
