Valley Isle Fellowship Love God Love His Church Love His World Love is Dangerous, Because it is Risky by Pastor Stephen Kaneshiro While I was dating my wife, Clarice, I did some things that were very dangerous & risky for Steve to do. I remember one night, I got very tired and fell asleep watching TV with her. After the program was done, Clarice woke me up and told me to go home. I tried to wipe the sleep from my eyes and I drove home. I was so tired that I was fighting sleep on the way home and I found myself in a very dangerous and risky situation. All of a sudden I found myself shaking myself and forcing my eyes to open. When I could focus my eyes, I realized that I was about a mile down the road from the point that I last remembered being. That scared me and I stayed awake the rest of the way home. The point that I am trying to make here is that because I was in love with Clarice I put myself in some pretty dangerous and risky situations. We should love the Lord our God with all of our heart, mind, and soul. This kind of love for our Lord is likely to also put us in pretty dangerous and risky situations. be a risk taker for Jesus, because I love Him so much. Risking your life, your reputation, your wealth, and your welfare for Jesus only comes about because of your love for Him. Yes, we are under an obligation to Jesus, but an obligation by itself will not allow you to continuously risk it all for Jesus. Only your LOVE and commitment to Jesus Christ will allow you to risk it all for Jesus, continuously. If you are not a risk taker for Jesus, then there is a very good chance that you are not a lover of Jesus Christ. If you are not a risk taker for the people that you say you love, then in all likelihood, you do not love them. from loving and obeying my Lord. Honestly, I don t believe that is true right now, but as I acknowledge this failing, I am also working on falling more deeply in love with my Lord. By the time you find yourself reading this, I sincerely hope and pray that I have come to the point where I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back, no turning back. To Him be the Honor and Glory. Great things He has done, is doing, and will continue to do. God bless and keep you as you move on to being lovers of Jesus who are willing to love Him in and through the dangers and risks of life. IN THIS ISSUE I enjoyed being with Clarice and I looked forward to any and every opportunity to be with her. I believe that was the last time that I may have fallen asleep at the wheel, but it was not the last time that I spent a late night with Clarice. I have also been in some dangerous and risky situations because of my love and faith in Jesus Christ, but I still look forward to loving and obeying Him. I am willing to I can honestly say, that I would take on almost any kind of risks for Clarice, even to the point of laying my life down for her. I would do the same for all of my children, their spouses, and for my grandchildren. This is only because I truly love them. I am also trying to move to the point where I can say the same thing about my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I want to love Him so much that there would be no danger and no risk that would prevent me 1 Love is Dangerous, Because it is Risky 2 Announcements 3 AM Service - John 13:1-17 4 What is Your Hope In? 5-7 Annoucements 8 VIF 2014 Calendar Valley Isle Fellowship 473 S High St PO Box 886 Wailuku, HI 96793 808.244.0865(ph) 808.249-0235(fax) Email: vifoffice@hawaii.rr.com Website: www.vifmaui.com

AM Service: Pastor Jeremy Kaneshiro Jesus, Our Servant King John 13:1-17 1. Jesus knows who He is. 2. Jesus came to serve not be served. 3. All of Jesus actions and words must be seen through the cross. 4. Fully clean and in need of daily cleansing. 5. The Christian s identity. NOTES: - 3 -

What is Your Hope In? by Jeremy Kaneshiro 21 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? 23 And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness. Matthew 7:21-23 Have you ever stopped to consider what Jesus is actually saying in this passage? Look at the response from the people in the passage, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?" What was their hope, in their plea to the Lord? What was the thing they thought would get them into the kingdom? They believed that based on their good works, especially the works that were done in the name of Jesus, would save them. They were putting their hope and trust in their effort and performance. Jesus tells them the sad reality of their lives I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness What they had done, that we try to save ourselves, is a curse of mankind. We inevitably drift into thinking that based on my work, my performance, and my will power, I will make it into Heaven. The devil loves to whisper the lie, But, I m a good person and if I just try hard enough, then I ll be okay, because he knows our hearts love to believe that lie. The cross calls us out and tells us we are more messed up and sinful than we are willing to admit and yet, God did something gracious for us. The gospel tells us that we are never perfect and will always fail Him because we are sinful, but it proclaims that Jesus was perfect for me, died to take my sins and gave me His perfect record and rose on the third day from death to defeat sin and death. The truth is, knowing Jesus and having eternal life is not based on how well I perform for Jesus, but on my faith that Jesus performed (perfect life, substitute in death and victorious in resurrection) perfectly. Do you believe that? Do you believe and understand that Jesus paid for all your sins once and for all? How would you defend yourself if you were standing before Jesus on judgment day? Would your shield and hope be in what you ve accomplished, what duties you've completed (even church things) or would it be the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection from the dead? When sin tempts you to disbelieve and to trust in your own works, are you going back to Jesus and His work? Jesus says something very telling here in Matthew 7:23 And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'" Do you see it? He is responding to people who justified themselves by their works for Jesus. Jesus responds by saying, in all of the work they did, they never knew Him, thus they are condemned. Jesus is saying that He is the only way to eternal life (John 14:6) and the only way you will know Jesus is through understanding and hope in the cross. It is through trusting and believing that Jesus took care of your sin and has given you a new identity. The only way to know Jesus is not through good works but trusting in his completed work at the cross and resurrection. So, what is your belief? What is your hope? May you trust and rely upon Jesus completed work for you, may that birth a joy unshakable because of the heart of thanksgiving over Jesus accomplishments and may that lead you to joyful service and sacrifice. My prayer today is that you would trust in Jesus finished work for your hope and identity. - 4 -
