Announcements, continued Anointing Service today, March 16 th Anointing will be offered during the morning worship service next Sunday. The ordinance, instituted in James 5:13-16, includes prayers for healing, forgiveness, and the strengthening of faith. Following the morning sermon people who so desire can receive the anointing oils from pastor Chris in the front of the sanctuary or in a private room with deacons who are trained for this service. Your Voice Matters! Please sign up for Small Group Bible Study the first step in our Vital Ministry Journey. Sign up for VMJ Groups in the narthex or by email (office@oaktonbrethren.org). Everyone is invited TODAY, March 16 th after worship as we celebrate the Launch Luncheon for our Vital Ministry Journey (VMJ). The full menu includes: baked potato bar, chili, hot dogs, ice cream sundae bar, coffee, tea and lemonade please sign up for lunch in the narthex. Lunch will be available for donation to the youth NYC fund. Feel free to bring your own bag lunch as well. The event is open to all and includes a brief video and a time for VMJ Q & A. Giant Gift Cards Youth Fundraiser The Oakton Youth participate in a Giant Food Store fundraiser called "Cash for Causes". This is how it works: you pay face value for the gift card and the Youth make 5% from each card sold. The gift cards come in increments of $100 and $50. If you would like to buy one or need additional information, please contact Kim Ferrari. Checks are made out to Oakton Church of the Brethren and marked for Giant Cards. YA Gathering March 27 th We will meet March 27 at 6:30p at Nate and Jenn's.1121 Holbrook Terrace NE, Washington DC 20002. Pastor Nancy Fitzgerald will depart Arlington at 5:30 pm with one group and pick up at the NOMA Metro approximately 6:15p. Please contact Pastor Nancy directly at pastor@arlingtoncob.org - if you need a ride from either place. We will send out a reminder at the end of the month before the meeting. Announcements, continued FILL THE PILLOW: Help our youth get to NYC this summer Loose change weighing you down? Please show your love and support to the teenagers making the trek to Colorado this summer by placing your loose change in the pillow case in the Narthex. Participants will be making pillows to sit on during the sessions and worship services at National Youth Conference. Thank you! April 6-12 disaster trip to New Jersey The Maryland Eastern Shore churches could use some help filling up their April 6-12 disaster trip to Toms River, New Jersey. Cheryl and Dean Voohees are the organizers for this trip. Please contact Laura Pfeiffer, BDM co-coordinator for MAD, at 410-690-2283 if you d like to join the group. They have 9 people so far. Theology of Atonement What does the death of Jesus mean for us? Do Christians really believe in blood sacrifice? Join the Common Ground Sunday school class on March 16 and 23 for an exploration of the theology of the Atonement. The study will be led by Vern Wingert. All are welcome! Deacon Calling service March 23 rd This service will be held as part of morning worship on March 23 rd. We invite everyone to give their input into this important call. In concert with the pastor, our deacons serve as the spiritual shepherds of the Oakton Church. With the recent retirements of several deacons we are asking the congregation if it is time to call new people into this ministry and, if so, who we feel called to encourage on this path.
