Welcome to St Alban s, Gossops Green & Bewbush CELEBRATE! Mothering Sunday Lent 4 We stand to sing... Sue McClellan, John Pac, Keith Ryecroft 1974 Kingsway s Thankyou Music 1.Colours of day dawn into the mind, the sun has come up, the night is behind. go down in the city, into the street, and let s give the message to the people we meet. So light up the fire and let the flame burn, open the door, let Jesus return. Take seeds of his Spirit, let the fruit grow, tell the people of Jesus, let his love show. 2. Go through the park, on into the town; the sun still shines on, it never goes down. The light of the world is risen again; the people of darkness are needing a friend. 3. Open your eyes, look into the sky, the darkness has come, the sun came to die. The evening draws on, the sun disappears, but Jesus is living, his Spirit is near. 1

We meet in the name of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. OPENING RESPONSES. The Lord be with you: and also with you. This is the day that the Lord has made: We will rejoice and be glad in it. WE CONFESS OUR SINS TO GOD. God be gracious to us and bless us, and make your face shine upon us: Lord, have mercy. All Lord, have mercy. May your ways be known on the earth, your saving power among the nations: Christ, have mercy. All Christ, have mercy. You, Lord, have made known your salvation, and reveal your justice in the sight of the nations: Lord, have mercy. All Lord, have mercy. t ABSOLUTION (WE ARE ASSURED OF GOD S FORGIVENESS). May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord. Amen. 2

THE COLLECT (THE SPECIAL PRAYER FOR TODAY) God of love, passionate and strong, tender and careful: watch over us and hold us all the days of our life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Please sit for the first reading Exodus 2.1-10 After the reading...this is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God Please stand for the Gospel reading THE GOSPEL John 19.25b-27 THE TALK We stand to DECLARE OUR FAITH We believe in God the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named. We believe in God the Son, who lives in our hearts through faith, and fills us with his love. We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us with power from on high. We believe in one God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen 3

OUR PRAYERS At the end of the prayers we say together: Merciful Father, accept these prayers, for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen THE PEACE Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. We meet in the name of Christ and we share his peace. The peace of God be always with you. And also with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace. Offertory Hymn: Walter van der Haas and Peter-Paul van Lelyveld Bosworth & Co. Ltd 1. Thank you for giving me the morning. Thank you for ev ry day that s new. Thank you that I can know my worries can be cast on you. 2. Thank you for all my friends and neighbours. Thank you for everyone that lives. Thank you for even greatest enemies I can forgive. 3. Thank you, I have my occupation. Thank you for ev ry pleasure small. Thank you for music, light and gladness. Thank you for them all. 4

4. Thank you for many little sorrows. Thank you for ev ry kindly word. Thank you for ev rywhere your guidance reaches ev ry land. 5. Thank you, I see your Word has meaning. Thank you, I know your Spirit here. Thank you because you love all people, those both far and near. 6. Thank you, O Lord, you spoke unto us. Thank you that for our words you care. Thank you, O Lord, you came among us, bread and wine to share. 7. Thank you, O Lord, your love is boundless. Thank you that I am full of you. Thank you, you made me feel so glad and thankful as I do. Holy Communion Open the heavens, Lord our God, and send your transforming Spirit on us and on these gifts. Amen The Lord is here His Spirit is with us. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give thanks and praise. 5

[Question: Why is it right to give thanks and praise? Answer: Listen, and we will hear.] Lord of all life, you created the universe, where all living things reflect your glory. You give us this great and beautiful earth, to discover and to cherish. You made us all, each wonderfully different, to join with the angels and sing your praise: Holy, holy, holy God of power and might Holy, holy, holy God of power and might Lord we lift up your name, with hearts full of praise Be exalted O Lord my God Holy God of power and might. Carl Tuttle 1995 Mercy Publishing We thank you, loving Father, because, when we turned away, you sent Jesus, your Son. He gave his life for us on the cross and shows us the way to live. Send your Holy Spirit that these gifts of bread and wine may be for us Christ's body and his blood. [Question: Why do we share this bread and wine? Answer: Listen, and we will hear.] On the night before he died, when darkness had fallen, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks, broke it, and shared it with his disciples, saying: 'This is my body, given for you. Do this to remember me.' After they had eaten, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and shared it with his disciples, saying: 'This is my blood, poured out for you and for many, for the forgiveness of sins.' 6

So Father, with this bread and this cup we celebrate his love, his death, his risen life. As you feed us with these gifts, send your Holy Spirit, and change us more and more to be like Jesus our Saviour. [Question: How do we follow Jesus Christ? Answer: Listen, and we will hear.] Help us, Father, to love one another, as we look forward to that day when suffering is ended, and all creation is gathered in your loving arms. And now with St Alban, and all your saints we give you glory, through Jesus Christ, in the strength of the Spirit, today and for ever. Amen We sing...the LORD S PRAYER. Traditional Carribean. 1 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, hallowed be thy name. hallowed be thy name. 2 On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. 3 Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. 7

4 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from all that is evil. 5 For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever, and for ever and ever. 6 Amen, amen, it shall be so. Amen, amen, it shall be so. We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread. God s holy gifts for God s holy people. Jesus Christ is holy, Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. THE GIVING OF COMMUNION. Everyone is invited to come forward for either a blessing or communion. If you do not wish to receive communion but would like to receive a blessing simply show this by not holding out your hands. COMMUNION HYMN: Henry Smith 1978 Integrity s Hosanna! Loving God, as a mother feeds her children at the breast you feed us in this sacrament with the food and drink of eternal life: help us who have tasted your goodness to grow in grace within the household of faith; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. We pray together... God of truth, we have seen with our eyes and touched with our hands the bread of life: Strengthen our faith that we may grow in love for you and for each other; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 9

Please would everyone give a contribution for the book? It could be your favourite prayer, or something you have written, or a drawing or poem to express your prayer. Hopefully we will have enough contributions to have a beautiful prayer resource which can be made into a book. We have a new Prayer List for March.
