WARWICK TEAM MINISTRY Weekly Newsletter WELCOME TO OUR SERVICES. If you are a newcomer to St Mary s Church, or a visitor to the area, please introduce yourself to one of the sidespeople or the clergy. We hope that you enjoy worshipping with us. Communicant members of any Christian church are welcome to make their communion with us. If you do not wish to receive communion, but would like to receive God s blessing, simply hold this service booklet when you come to the altar rail. St Mary s seeks to be an inclusive church and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. We have a carpeted area and pew bags available for the youngest members of our congregation, if they wish to use it. And they may like to take an adult with them! If you re a UK tax payer the money you place in the collection can be increased by around 25% if you fill out a blue envelope in the nave chairs or by the main entrance and allow us to retrieve the tax you ve already paid & put it towards the work of St Mary s. Further information about St Mary s, our life and ministry can be found on the website www.stmaryswarwick.org.uk, on Twitter and Facebook. NOTICES WELCOME Today is that traditional time in Lent which marks a break in the season of reflection and penance as we celebrate Mothering Sunday. It s great to be able to welcome Freddie Elmhirst, together with his family and friends, for his baptism in our 10.30am Service. And very many thanks to all who ve made the posies of flowers that we re giving out in that service as well. THE BIBLE: PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE It s great to welcome Trevor Dennis to St Mary s for this evening s Lent Address. He was Vice-Dean at Chester Cathedral until his retirement and has also published many insightful and imaginative books about the Bible over a number of years (most recently The Gospel Beyond the Gospel and The Book of Books: The Bible Retold). Previous addresses by Bishop Stephen Platten (The Bible in Worship), Prof Peter Marshall (The Bible in the Reformation) and Sharon Jones (The Bible Now) are now available on the St Mary s website under Recent Lent Addresses online in audio and text: http://www.stmaryswarwick.org.uk/index.php?/stmarys/lent_recent And printed copies are also in church today. ECCLESIASTICAL INSURANCE celebrates its 130 year anniversary of insuring Anglican churches. They are making a thank you offer to donate 130 to the church each time anyone from the church family you, clergy, church workers or volunteers take out a home insurance policy with Ecclesiastical during the next year. When a home insurance policy is taken out, by quoting Trust 130 and nominating St Mary s, Ecclesiastical will make a 130 donation. If you would like to a quotation, simply visit www.ecclesiastical.com/trust130 or call 08007830130 quoting Trust130

CONFIRMATION CLASSES started last Thursday in the church vestry. It s not too late to join in, so please speak to Vaughan Roberts, Alycia Timmis or Alice Webber if you d like to find out more. EASTER LILIES Easter is rapidly approaching & we shall be decorating the Beauchamp Chapel with Lilies. If you would like to contribute in memory of a loved one and have their name on the scroll it would be appreciated. Donations either to Noël Reeve or the Parish Office. Thank you FIRST SUNDAYS Last Sunday was the first Sunday in March and we had our usual change of services with a 9.30am Family Service and an 11am Choral Matins. Please note those will be the last ones until June because the first Sunday in April is Easter Day and in May we have the Bishop of Warwick visiting St Mary s for a confirmation service. Both of those will be 10.30am Choral Eucharists. Normal first Sunday services will resume on 3 rd June. PRAYER OF THE WEEK Loving God, Thank you for mums and children and for all the joy of family life; Be with those who are grieving because they have no mother; Be close to those who are struggling because they have no children; Be near to those who are sad because they are far apart from those they love. Let your love be present in every home, And help your church to have eyes to see and ears to hear the needs of all who come; We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. OVERVIEWS This week the Church Council s Standing Committee met and received updates on St Mary s finances and approve a budget to put to PCC; review Parish Share contributions ahead of the Diocesan meeting in June; plus reports on church fabric, admin developments, working parties and the numerous Outward Giving suggestions.

WARWICK DISTRICT FOODBANK NEEDS YOUR HELP! Warwick District Foodbank operates from seven Distribution Centres across the Warwick, Leamington and Kenilworth communities. During the last 12 months it has distributed emergency food parcels to over 4,250 people, all of whom have experienced some form of recognised crisis and were referred to Foodbank by a statutory or charitable agency. Twenty one per cent of Foodbank s clients came from Warwick and of the 372 Foodbank vouchers that were redeemed at the Saltisford Foodbank Centre it resulted in the feeding of 590 adults and 305 children respectively. To aid the work of Foodbank they have recently received some generous gifts from a few different organisations to buy a much needed van. To support the running of the van without draining the charity s resources a new scheme has commenced called Club 50 where Warwick District Foodbank are hoping a minimum of 50 people will club together to each pay 5 a month via direct debit (see poster on the notice board). Can you help? This charity is doing a wonderful work in our town and for only 5 each month you could make a very valuable contribution to this work and without breaking the bank. For a direct debit form please see the notice board.. CONCERT & EVENT STAFF REQUIRED we urgently need paid staff to help manage concerts. St Mary s hosts concerts and events throughout the year mainly on Saturday evenings, but also occasionally on weekdays. We require staff who would be willing to manage 4 concerts per year, who are able to supervise and are also physically able. The hours are generally 6.00pm to open up for arrival of the concert giver until approximately 11.00pm. The staff should be available during the concert, then to supervise the return of the church to its normal condition after the event, which may include supervision of the take down of staging, replacing nave chairs in position, moving of other furniture, ensuring all debris is removed from the performance area, replacement of the altar and furniture, ensuring that the building is as it should be before locking and alarming once the building is vacated. If you are interested in joining the team please email admin@stmaryswarwick.org.uk or call 01926 403940 option 1 with your contact details and we will get back to you. Full instructions will be given.
