Hello all, You may all be wondering to yourself, "what a strange way to start a newsletter article". I wanted to peak your curiosity because as I type this note to you all I am in the midst of planning my advent sermons for the month of December. Hard to believe that another year is coming to a close. It seems like just a couple of months ago we were just starting the year...well I take that back the snowstorms of March are far, far, far away in my memory and I am hoping that this winter is not a repeat of last year. The cold weather is here and we have had to break out our coats. This brings happy thoughts because it means that Christmas is right around the corner and the opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ. While this is a very busy time for all of us it is also a time where we pause to remember the reason we are here. The birth of Christ where God created a new covenant with all of us. The God of second, third, and fourth chances. So as you shop for Christmas presents buy a gift for someone less fortunate and definitely take time to be here for our advent series "It's a Wonderful Life". This is a special series that I hope to do justice because it is based on the movie starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. It is also Beth's favorite Christmas movie of all time. We will even have some special guests with us for each service so I am looking forward to seeing you in worship on December 1, 8, 15, 22 and Christmas Eve for our 11:00 candlelight worship service. May God grant you peace as we celebrate the birth of Christ. From the Winter Weather Safety and Survival Winter Weather Safety Kit The National Weather Service advises you to prepare a readiness kit to prepare for winter storms. Be prepared, before the storm strikes! At home and at work, primary concerns are the potential loss of heat, power, telephone service and a shortage of supplies if storm conditions persist. At HOME you should have available: A flashlight and extra batteries. Battery-powered NOAA weather radio and portable radio to receive emergency information. These may be your only links to the outside. Extra food and water. High-energy food, such as dried fruit or candy, and food requiring no cooking or refrigeration is best. Extra medicine and baby items. First aid supplies. Heating fuel. Fuel carriers may not reach you for days after a severe winter storm. Emergency heating source, such as a fireplace, wood stove, space heater, etc. Learn to use properly to prevent a fire, and be sure to have proper ventilation. Fire extinguisher and smoke detector. Test your units regularly to ensure they are working properly. In cars and trucks, plan your travel and check the latest weather reports to avoid the storm! Fully check and winterize your vehicle before the winter season begins. In your VEHICLE, carry a winter storm survival kit including the following items: Blankets/sleeping bags Flashlight with extra batteries First-aid kit Knife High-calorie, non-perishable food Extra clothing to keep dry A large empty can and plastic cover with tissues and paper towels for sanitary purposes A can, candles and water-proof matches to melt snow for drinking water Sack of sand (or cat litter) Shovel Keep your gas tank near full to avoid Windshield scraper and brush ice in the tank and fuel lines. Tool kit Try not to travel alone, and be sure to let someone know Tow rope your travel plans your timetable and route. Booster cables Water container Compass and road maps. Dolores E.
